Alina Zagitova

I wanted to write a long post praising Alina but instead I just want to say that after following figure skating for 3-4 years now, the current World championships were my favourite competition ever. I enjoyed it even more than the Olympics. I was happy with Alina overcoming her current struggles, I was happy with Elizabeth giving a strong statement with her 2nd place that she's ready to fight and I am happy with Evgenia regaining her confidence.

People have been doubting Evgenia and Alina since each of them stepped on the senior circuit. Yet, they are the Russian ladies that lead Russian female figure skating to glory. We all discuss about the depth of talent out there but this competition proved one more time that those 2 girls aren't done. We had a competition with triple axels and a quadriple salchow and still Alina and Evgenia proved that they can flourish under such difficult circumstances.

Last year when Evgenia was out of WC due to injury and Alina was suffering from her post-Olympics fatigue, Russia almost lost their 3 spots for the ladies. And people kept blaming them for the failure, although there were also Sotskova and Konstantinova who also choked and contributed to the difficult situation. This year it was almost the same. What I am trying to say is just that.. even though there are so many other good skaters out there, Alina and Evgenia prove to be levels above them and that without them the Russian ladies team can barely have any dominance.

I knew Alina would win. Losing the GPF to Rika and her 3Axels was one thing, but I think that losing Euros hurt Alina a lot. Because that was hers to win. It's very inspiring to see her rising again. The happiness she radiates from the medal ceremony tells me that she's been really dreaming for that medal and I am glad that she could accomplish her goal.

Alina still has not lost clean as a senior.

Do you guys think the Japanese home crowd of Rika kihira and her teammates rooting for Alina a Russian bothered them? It's an intriguing issue. But I think we're all surprised none of the three Japanese girls medaled at Worlds.

If you guys think the edge can be negative you should read the ladies free skating thread for worlds. It's like I'm in another world reading comments about Alina.

Alina has given her best under tremendous pressure this World Championships and produced the result that should silence any critics and arm chair judges: she got decorated with the Gold Medal.

I was so curious to whom she is running. If she is running to hug coaches or congratulate to Lilber or sth else. But it's not theere!!! :rolleye:

She was hasting to give her after-competition interview, the one directly in the arena.

That's why I leave competition thread everytime immediately after the competition. During the competition it is quite OK, but after the last program speculations start.

Today, I've celebrated Alina's victory with my first spring cross-country running. Originally I intended to start next week but I overcame myself and did it (we did it! :) ). Well, I will not dedicate my time to Alina as this was of course terrible, but I will preserve my best for her. That will occur sometimes around september and about 5 minutes better than today. 5 minutes, that shows what systematic training will do even with non-professional sportsman, and we saw what professional attitude did for Alina during her preparation for this world championship. Alina is an inspiration for us.

Congratulations, Alina! So glad she finally got her world title. I've been a casual figure skating fan my entire life and only turned serious after Pyeongchang, in part due to Alina and how enchanting she was there. I fully expected her to win Worlds and was so shocked when she didn't. Then I was pretty scared this season because of her posture problems. But after the free, I was just jumping around shouting, "ALINA'S BACK!" I was worried for a while, but never lost hope that she'd return to top form.

Do you guys see any changes in her technique for the 3Lutz combinations? I thought that she attacked her 3Lutz-3Toe with higher speed than usual and the 3 Lutz turned out to be very big.

I'm quite certain they are. They said that would do her make up in the major competitions. And WC is the biggest event of the season, wich also take place in Japan.
Alina looks like a star on the red carpet.
She looks so much more mature now. Not a girl, but... I don't know how to say it in english... maiden, perhaps. I mean, If you compare how she look now to the summer photos even.

She also looks happier than she has looked since the day she got Masaru! :luv17:

The Hamster has become a Puma! All kidding aside, I bet Puma is feeling pretty pleased right now. I wondered about them waiting so long after the Olympics to announce their partnership with her. But this really worked out well for them! Good call, Puma people!

A huge thank you to Team Zagitova for filling my IG feed with stunning photo after stunning photo of Alina looking like an absolute super-star! It has been wonderful to wake up to that every day :)

Eteri says that Alina was in a tough spot mentally leading up to the WC, and a week ago, they considered dropping out altogether (!), but decided to go and fight. Wow. I'm glad they did.

That is what I wanted to post right now! Eteri said they wanted to withdraw on Saturday but doesn‘t mention a reason? I hope Alina has no injuries but I think she was talking about a mental thing..

Yes, she said it was Alina's mental state.

It's easy to forget that she is just 16.

Speaking to Meryl Davis for the Olympic Channel, newly-crowned world champion Alina Zagitova said it's her love of the sport that keeps her motivated.

"I think it’s the love for figure skating," said the 16-year-old. "I can say that I’m that much in love with figure skating.

"Sometimes there are days when I can’t do something and I want to give up everything but then I remember that, thanks to figure skating, I travel all over the world, I've seen a lot of places, I grew up as a person.

"That’s the way it is. First, I want to drop everything, I want to stop everything. But then I remember that figure skating is my life, that I gave everything, I keep giving everything to figure skating. I think that’s what keeps me going."

Kind of shows the enormous pressure Alina must have been under.
Seems the issue was well handled by her trainers and perhaps other staff at Khrustalniy. Generally, parents don't meddle with the trainers, but younger siblings know no taboos. Sabina perhaps really gave Alina that final push to compete and Alina really appreciated her younger sister's gesture of kind bolstering.

From now on, Alina will have hardly any reason to ever doubt herself again, she emerged stronger, better from what she must have been feeling as an ordeal.

She will skate like liberated in tomorrow's exhibition, the survivor she has proven to be.
Will she do her Lara Croft routine again, or has Alina prepared a special surprise for us? Despite her workload in the run up to the World Championships, I wouldn't put it past Alina and her Koolest Khrustalniy Krew to prepare something special to mark their historic triumph ....
