I wanted to write a long post praising Alina but instead I just want to say that after following figure skating for 3-4 years now, the current World championships were my favourite competition ever. I enjoyed it even more than the Olympics. I was happy with Alina overcoming her current struggles, I was happy with Elizabeth giving a strong statement with her 2nd place that she's ready to fight and I am happy with Evgenia regaining her confidence.
People have been doubting Evgenia and Alina since each of them stepped on the senior circuit. Yet, they are the Russian ladies that lead Russian female figure skating to glory. We all discuss about the depth of talent out there but this competition proved one more time that those 2 girls aren't done. We had a competition with triple axels and a quadriple salchow and still Alina and Evgenia proved that they can flourish under such difficult circumstances.
Last year when Evgenia was out of WC due to injury and Alina was suffering from her post-Olympics fatigue, Russia almost lost their 3 spots for the ladies. And people kept blaming them for the failure, although there were also Sotskova and Konstantinova who also choked and contributed to the difficult situation. This year it was almost the same. What I am trying to say is just that.. even though there are so many other good skaters out there, Alina and Evgenia prove to be levels above them and that without them the Russian ladies team can barely have any dominance.
I knew Alina would win. Losing the GPF to Rika and her 3Axels was one thing, but I think that losing Euros hurt Alina a lot. Because that was hers to win. It's very inspiring to see her rising again. The happiness she radiates from the medal ceremony tells me that she's been really dreaming for that medal and I am glad that she could accomplish her goal.

I was worried for a while, but never lost hope that she'd return to top form.
