Alina Zagitova

No, just a war against Alina in the Russian media continues, nothing new.

Yes, and it appears those trolls have taken to defacing Alina's Wikipedia and raising all kinds of fake, false and vicious rumours, aided by certain vloggers, that lead to counterattacks from Alina's followers ...

She can really do without all this, but is powerless in stopping it. Best ignored and left to her agents that manage her official social media and professional media appearances.

Alina so far hasn't set a foot wrong in choosing commercials and appearances.

Alina's superpower is being able to ignore it all.

It is bizarre the way people (not fans) react to anything and everything connected to Alina.

What planet are you from if you see a video of Alina driving a car with her parent (like practically every other teenager on earth) during her holiday visit to her hometown and you think - 'I must notify the Izveskh police!'

PSA -If this is your reaction, you are crazy. Get help.

I thought this was the peak moment of 'not-fan' insanity. Wrong. They really out-did themselves when were tagging the Japanese Prime Minister in IG comments accusing Alina of plagiarism and stealing another skater's music. (Thanks Daniil!) :palmf:

Some Alina fans get a lot of crap for being over zealous. I think it is almost always in response to 'not fans' behaving like lunatics on the internet, the Russian media being unfair and instigating something, or Alina not being given her fair share of credit for her accomplishments by FS elite. It's been two years since Alina won Olympic Gold. I think Besti has maybe complimented her twice? But only after she won Worlds. Sometimes I don't think they will ever get over it. Hopefully they have formed a support group to help them move through the stages of grief. I'm sure they'll get there someday.

Alina and her family maintaining a dignified silence in the face of all of this has only made her more beloved by the people who care about her.

Thank you, you expressed exactly what I feel about this.

One would think that her hiatus will stop these unpleasant comments from the skating elite and media smear campaign, but alas. They have no better things to do in life than hate on 17 year old hardworking girl.

But as you said - that only makes normal people love her more. :)

I really don't understand why there are so many negative things around Zagitova. She has many good qualities of a good girl that I'm not going to list here. She doesn't create scandels, talk controversial things. What else should she do to stop all these?

Nothing.

She can't stop these things because they have nothing to do with her or her actions. These things have EVERYTHING to do with the issues of the people creating drama.

The negative media attention isn't personal. The media wants to generate interest. The more controversy they can create the better. If someone else was bringing clicks and attention they'd be writing stories about that person. Right now it's Alina's turn on the wheel. Part of it is because she has very passionate fans and supporters. They are a guaranteed audience who can be counted on to react. And the flip side of that is she also has very cray-cray 'not fans'. They are equally obsessed with keeping up with Alina and anything connected with her.

When she announced her break it generated a lot of interest. (This is an understatement.) The media responded accordingly. It sucks to read that crap but this is the world we live in. If/when Alina announces a 'comeback'? Cue media meltdown.

As for the Russian FS elite not appreciating Alina, again nothing to do with Alina. They didn't get their chosen winner of the Olympic Games. They don't like being wrong. They will continue to pout about it until they stop. Nothing Alina can do about it. It is what it is.

Trolls will be trolls. 'Not fans' will continue to be 'not Alina's fans'. Alina could cure cancer and she would be that skater they hated who cured cancer.

I try not to care. Sometimes I manage better than others.

Which means that same elite is still at odds with Eteri Georgiyevna too, for 'allowing this to happen'.

Much to the chagrin of this old guard elite, Eteri's team and their skaters keep delivering top performances and bring many medals home ....

But the old guard is losing its grip. Some rinks have taken up the challenge and are giving chase, trying to close in and get even.

I think there is more about the realiton of the russian skating elite towards Eteri. They still look at her the way "She is not 'one of us'."

It annoys me to my guts...
Like she’s literally an angel, the most respectful, kind and giving girl, who hasn’t set a foot wrong.
She’s always respectful to her teachers and all the coaches, she’s very nice to her teammates and competitors, she’s kind to her fans.
Never complains about anything, never “claps back”, she just nods and goes on.
yet the jealous and evil people just go after her every day. :-/

The other day Tarasova was complimenting junior girls from jrNats, saying how amazing they are. And yet again, she couldn’t help but make another dig at Alina.

She was all like “Junior girls are amazing” and she ended it with “It will be sad if they’ll end up like Alina”.... -_-
No freaking words left.
Let it go, Tatiana. Alina won that gold, you were hurt, but it’s time to move on already.

The other thing is, that Alina’s name, regardless on the topic, always drives the biggest traffic to websites. That’s why they make as many articles as possible about her.

I read comments on sports.ru from some Alina fans who have figured out the game - media posts crappy article. Not fans of Alina rejoice. Fans of Alina respond on high level defense mode. Media mission accomplished.

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

I suspect Tat will go to her grave still passive aggressively shading Alina whenever the mood strikes her.

My hope for Alina is that she never has so little to do in her life that she has to strive for relevancy by insulting teenage athletes. Somehow I don't think I have to worry about that. May she always carry herself with the class and grace she shows now at 17.
