Good points. I think the uncertainty from the pandemic is going to push some skaters in another direction. We don't know if that's the case with alina but it may very well be. She may be thinking why do all that training and then have only limited competitions to attend?

First things first let's see her at test skates.
 
It's okay guys...

Retirement or not, definitive or temporary, we will see more awesome things from Alina. We just have to be patient. In any case, she won't stay too far from the ice :)

Very well said. I'd rather see her shine as the host of the TV show 'Ice Age' than see her struggle with competitive issues during a volatile season... We had the opportunity to see her rise to the top and become the best ladies skater, I'm grateful for that and will cherish the experience forever.

I love this. I just want to see her shine at anything! Seeing her happy makes me smile :)
 
There were skaters in the past who took part in such shows etc. and returned to competitive skating again. I don't know whether this will be Alina's case or not, but what "season" if not the one that is coming to us is more suitable for such "experiments". :)

I was thinking of that right before I read your post. :) Alina is in the position to pick and choose. If there was a normal world and the normal figure skating season she may be all in. I also think she could step aside this season and then return at least to training. It sure will be interesting to see Alina at test skates.

I'm not sure we will see her. Looking at the tape on her knee in this photo taken today, it seems possible she might be injured -

Might also have something to do with the sudden, as yet unconfirmed (officially), choice to host Ice Age. I'm just speculating. The tape could be preventative. She has struggled with knee issues in the past. It's one thing to fight through injuries when you have a goal in front of you (like winning Worlds) and everything to gain. It's another to put yourself through all that just to get what you already have. Again. And with the added uncertainty that the international competitions this season will even happen. :(

I hope she is happy and this experience brings her everything she wants. I can't be devastated about this when she just said that hosting a sports news show was her dream. Granted, Ice Age is not that, but it will be fun. Other skaters will be there, people she knows.

Maybe the paycheck from this show is what has made it possible for her father to leave Kazan and come to Moscow and for the family to finally be completely together. In that interview before the Olympics Alina said that was all she wanted. It's taken three years but that dream is coming true. Let it be for the best.

At least that tape is not on her left knee which is. Alinas worse knee.

I saw a headline in one of the Russian papers about how a Lena's father left his position but I didn't read the story. Thanks for filling me in Finley. Big changes is her whole family ready for the big city of Moscow? How will her little sister adjust to such a huge city and how is she stopped skating?

I guess Sabina will adjust the same way Alina and her grandmother did when they had to do it. At least she will be moving to a significantly larger home.

This article answers some of my questions about dad's relocation. It has to be tough to have the family scattered like that. Mama Zagitova had to be losing her mind trying to be in three places at once to be there for everyone.

Ilnaz Zagitov (father of Olympic figure skating champion Alina Zagitova) in August left the post of head coach of the MHL "Irbis" club for family reasons.

“The decision of Ilnaz Zagitov can be understood. His youngest daughter lives with her grandmother in Izhevsk, the eldest with her grandmother in Moscow. He and his wife lived in Kazan. They decided to unite in one city and go to Moscow. They will live there, build their future life. Family is sacred, we could not say anything. Haha, that knee tape gave me a completely different impression! I immediately thought that she’s training hardcore, it doesn’t have to do with injuries.

Tbh, I think Alina wanted to compete this season, she said multiple times how she’s excited, they were discussing music with Daniil, he said she called him early every day, but I think seeing how this season is going to be nothing but RusNats more than likely, she probably decided it’s better to earn some money in these volatile and uncertain times.

At the beginning of the pandemic it didn’t at first look like it will have effects lasting this long, so I think as time went by she changed her perspective.
Who knows when shows are coming back? Who knows if brands will start cutting their marketing spend? What if worlds & Olympics get cancelled? It’s realistic to expect these things and take them into account.
The popular Russian show pays very well and is a definite earning right here right now.

I didn’t feel like this season will mean anything, but it’s still important to have a competitive experience this season. But perhaps Rusfed can come up with an exception to fast track her to russian nationals as she is a reigning world champion, or maybe they will schedule her for the first and last cup stage, so that both schedules can work out. And even if she doesn’t compete, I have a strong feeling Winter Olympics will get postponed by 1 year anyway, so there would be an opportunity to have a pre Olympic season.

But if she doesn’t feel like ever competing again, it’s completely understandable although a little sad.
 
On a more pragmatic approach, Alina is blessed and "cursed" at the same time. She gets such offers that are impossible to refuse, even if she wants too. Last year it was Navka's show. Now channel 1. Starting studying journalism and refusing such a project in your first semester is like carrier suicide. I hope the long negotiations were to arrange some time and conditions so that if she wants to compete to get the clearance contract wise.

She looks a bit out of shape compared to the early photos from Novogorsk and the first week after that. Always judging by the photos since we haven't seen anything on the ice. I'm of the opinion that if she wants to, she can combine both the show and some competitions as nussnacker mentioned above. She can do the first stage and last or even just first or the GP stage. I don't think that RN this season is such a big goal anyway. She may lost her position on national pool team though.

Regarding the test skates in less than two weeks, I don't think she will participate. It will be nice to see her skate of course. The fact of not skating in test skates itself doesn't mean much but compined with the absent in the rest of the season will put her definetly out of the team, even reserve. I don't know if this has any real impact in case she wants to compete in the upcoming seasons though.

When it comes to Alina there is always a mystery in the decisions and the goals. It's part of her magic and source to support her even stronger. :biggrin:

Generally, I consider it a mistake to not try to skate in the next two seasons, I don't think any of the current skaters will be so competitive as they look now, neither the youngers will be.

Yes, exactly, she did a wonderful job in managing her appearances so far and keeping the magic. Besides, I know well the inside world of big TV shows and I don‘t like the fact that her image and words will depend on producers and writers, whose primary concern is the rating, not Alina. But I guess I am just being overprotective, so don‘t mind me :-) Since WC 2019, when I found out that I couldn‘t sleep and eat from nerves, I consider her #myZagitova as well and I am a super protective mom.

We haven't heard from Alina yet - so far there's no confirmation that she's accepted 1tv's offer. Even if she does agree to host IA, she's pretty smart and won't get involved in any scandals intentionally cooked up by producers (like they did in previous seasons with TAT and some participants).

I guess all of us here feel the same (would be fun to see Alina's face when she finds out she has a whole bunch of protective mums/dads/aunties/uncles/cousins/etc all over the world :biggrin:)
 
She grew so much. I’m still rooting for her no matter what. It doesn’t matter if she keeps competing or not (the next saison will be chaotic because of the covid) the most important thing is to see her happy with her family reunited and new projects. I’m excited to see Alina as an actress and she can live her youth now, dating, having friends etc...
