MOSCOW, August 29 - RIA Novosti, Anatoly Samokhvalov.
Alina Zagitova, the 2018 Olympic champion in figure skating, will be able to prove herself in golf, as she has the necessary talent, Honorary President of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC) Alexander Zhukov told RIA Novosti.
Zagitova tried her hand at golf in July at the "Strong Figures" intellectual sports festival. The figure skater suspended her career last season, then resumed training and, according to the general director of the Russian Figure Skating Federation Alexander Kogan, will perform at the test skates of the Russian national team, which will be held September 12-13 in Moscow.
“She almost hit the hole the first time,” Zhukov said over the phone, recalling Zagitova’s July training session, in which he also took part. “She just tried the club and hit it from about five meters. A talented athlete, what can you say. In my opinion, she liked golf. "
“Former athletes usually switch to golf here in Russia, but all over the world, people start doing this sport early on from childhood,” the honorary head of the ROC noted, talking about Zagitova's prospects in this sport after the end of her figure skating career.
According to him, there are still many talented young golfers in Russia. “When Alina finishes figure skating, I think she will be able to prove herself in golf, but one needs to do it seriously, and for now she doesn’t have such an opportunity, and this is good. We will still have a chance to admire her on the ice,” Zhukov concluded.
