Alina Zagitova

that bald pos has changed his tune; from his recent interview to rbc.ru:
"It seems to me that our panel was consistent and strict to all skaters - to all Russian women, Japanese women, American women..." Something could be said about that, but what I will probably remember till the end of my days were the voices "it is perfectly fine if some skaters are judged more harshly than the other ones" :)

That goof should have lost all of his respectability and credibility and his credentials for that matter as a judge from that one event in Paris last year where he screwed the scores of Alina and aliona intentionally. I would hope he would not be at any world championship or Olympics ever again to judge Russian skaters when he has proven he will play God and do what he wants not what is right and just. I think the Russian Federation should have filed an official complaint against him.

I know right... if anything it wasn’t, it wasn’t consistent even within that one competition. Not naming any names, but not everyone was called, that’s all I’m saying.

I also liked how he said that now he sees that the lutz edge was either slight outside or flat. But the call was an E.
seriously, isn’t panel supposed to judge things in favor of the athlete? If it’s a doubt between slight outside and flat, I would judge it as outside, and not call it flat. But they went with an E. Absurd.

Hilarious now to think of all the internet “experts” who were justifying that call, saying he did it right, lmao!!!

Alina:"My head thingie is prettier than yours! what do you say to that, Olya?" 😂

This is a good article, worth reading, defending Alina against unfair criticism from another journalist, Yolanda Chen. I really liked the author's points because I personally do not understand the criticism of Alina co-hosting Ice Age. She's not interviewing heads of state on the Russian equivalent of Dateline about issues that effect the fate of the nation. She's conducting Q&As with celebrities and skaters on a competition reality show about figure skating! For entertainment purposes only! She's not even in charge of leading the show. Or the scores. Or the outcome. I mean, what is the problem?

I wish some of these critics would think back to themselves at 18 on their first job. Everybody has to start somewhere.

All these "critics"....
Probably jealous of her opportunity to cohost Ice Age.
I'm sure they could all do much better ---- NOT!!!!

And by the way, Alina handled herself very well at age 16 when she met PM Abe of Japan.
I know she didn't interview him, but her demeanor was much better than most of these "mature adults" could have mustered.

Once again, as the saying goes (or my version at least)....
The jackasses are braying, but the "Alina Parade" keep rolling along. (I hope Beijing 2022 is on the route)

NEXT!!!!

Guillaume Cicero

Otherwise reasonable and decent defence of Alina.
That is part of the reasonable and decent defense of Alina. The author is noting how Chen pronounced Guillaume's name (and also Morgan Cipres name) during her commentary on the FS event at the Olympics. She was probably going for the true French pronunciation and just missed the mark.

There is a transcript of Y. Chen's commentary of FS at the 2018 Olympics on another forum. To put it more delicately than Y. Chen herself would do when giving a critique, this was not her finest moment - mistakes were made. More than a few. And this is not an 18 year old girl on her first real television job speaking for 30 minutes a week on a fun FS show. This is an experienced journalist with a long career commentating for the Olympics.

Y. Chen needs to shut it.

I didn't mean the remark of the mispronounciation wasn't reasonable, it was just my ungainly figure of speech.

Man if only Alina was competing again. The sky would be the limit because it's wide open. She could make podiums this season.

Of course if Alina was competing she may have contracted covid-19 by now so it's risky business.
Results this year are non sense... assuming competion has it and I'm not sure of it.

Sadly it was her choice to stop after GP Final.
I think she still had a lot to give, but I can understand how it can be difficult to find motivation to struggle for a good result and to find a place for international competitions, hoping in someone else inconsistency when you won it all and you were used to have your destiny in your own hands.
This is the main reason I hate ISU so much.
It is their duty to create an environment in which skaters could thrive even when they can't be champions of everything.
She did not stop skating.
She was out everyday in fron of an audience: sign that she still found joy expressing herself on the ice but there was not a place for her in ISU competitions.

For the little we could see, there was a new side of her emerging while she was blooming and growing into the fine lady she his now.
It's sad to loose that for the sport and for us fans, no matter who our favorite is.

So much yes!!!
Yolanda is anything but a professional journalist or even commentator, she should’ve had some of that self-check before agreeing to commentate FS. There are many other cases of her unprofessionalism, not just mispronounced names of FS stars, but plain and simple she even managed to butcher the name of the musical as famous as „the Phantom of the opera“...

If a professional journalist wants to share his opinion, I believe he could do so with more respect towards his colleague. Right now she just sounds jealous she didn’t get this job (well thanks to 1TV producers, at least we won’t hear her butchering names again).

Seriously, she’s beeping ridiculous. She criticized the fact that in Russia athletes get jobs on TV as Journalists. gurl, how long have you been sleeping? it’s been a case in the world for a long time, long before Alina.

Regarding her saying, that athletes without journalist education get TV jobs, and those who studied didn’t:

The point of the Ice Age show IS to have figure skaters be the hosts and regular celebrities as skaters. The reverse of roles is an inherent part of of the show, only for some seasons they changed it to have a celebrity also be a co-host, when a figure skater couldn’t be hired. So whatever she thinks, she somehow missed over a decade of what this show is about.
Slutskaya been on the job for a while, since she was Russia‘s most famous female skater for a while. Of course producers would want some change and have another famous ladies figure skater to fill on that role, especially considering Irina has moved to being a sports news anchor.

yes, also in life people without traditional education go way further than those with it sometimes. Actors without formal acting education secure acting jobs, singers without training in academies can become successful performers, dancers who didn’t attend Bolshoi still achieve success in their fields. In some fields education isn’t strictly necessary to begin with.

Amen!

Alina was offered this job. She didn't ask for it. Upon receiving this offer was Alina supposed to ask if they had already cleared it with all the journalists in Moscow more qualified than she? :bang:

Whatever her issue is with Alina's performance, her frustration is misplaced. The 1st channel made this decision. Maybe Y. Chen should call them out publicly for their incompetence. I'm sure that will go over well.

I don't agree with that but that's a different story at this point. The rest yes, it's unfortunate that Alina doesn't skate. Thanks for expressing your opinion here. It nice to see that her potential is appreciated among fans of other skaters.
Now you got me curious (about not being her choice).
Please go on with the other story.

P.S: Alina fullfilled her potential in a superlative way.
She was both lucky to be at her top in the olympic year and unlucky that just behind her a new revolutionary generation of skaters was growing but she really did make the best of her opportunities.
She had some "off-skates" (anybody does) but in the really important moments to mark her career she was there strongly!
