Alina Zagitova

Hey all! Just a friendly reminder to keep posts focused on the respective skater(s) in the Fan Fest :) There are other threads where you can discuss the event or Russian ladies.

Cheers!

Courage, Maiia!
Maya has it - after that popped first attempt, she went for another 4T. And after cutting her finger during a spin, she skated on with a bloody bindi like nothing happened :)

Press conference with English Subtitles
Wow, watching the whole thing with gestures and everything does put things into perspective. I'll just say that I'm impressed by how Alina handled the entire thing gracefully and ignoring the multiple passive-agressive jabs, starting with the comments about how the other captain wishes the Olympics also had an audience award. :rolleye:
And bravo to Alina for saying nice things about Maiia, I guess she did end up on the wrong team, after all.

I was reading sports.ru and someone mentioned in a comment that Maiia's pictures were getting a lot of love and likes in Team Tutberidze fan pages on VK and IG. I hope this ends up being a positive thing in the long run and she gets tons of fans (people love underdogs) and support. We will see.

I also hope someone reminds her that it is your defeats that make or break you more than your victories. As much as the 2018 WC in Milan SUCKED for Alina, (and all of us) I believe that experience led to Saitama. We may not even have gotten 2019 Saitama victory without the great Milan Meltdown of 2018. And that particular victory was worth all victories in my eyes.

Courage, Maiia!
It was so nice that Alina mentioned that Maiia has less experience and generally does well in practice. Absolutely no need to say that it would’ve been better if Maiia was replaced with Aliona :-/
I can’t imagine a 14 year old hearing something like that after a team competition. Especially it reminded me how that journalist at Russian nationals told her how she’s looking at the top skaters from behind the corner, and isn’t one of them. Don’t understand why she constantly has to hear things like that, but it’s just not nice...
hopefully Alina offered some emotional support to Maiia behind the scenes. She’s known to always help out and support her teammates, so no doubt she got some warm hugs from Alina, just like Anna did after feeling a bit tired and down after the competition.

I have to say that I saw 10 minutes and can't continue. Will need to divide it into several episodes, otherwise some glass could end on the floor smashed into pieces. :rolleye:

BTW THANK YOU ALINA FOR STANDING UP FOR MAIIA. THATS WHAT A TRUE TEAM LEADER IS EXPECTED TO DO.(y)

Edit: Instead of 24 minutes it took me nearly two hours to finish it...
Here is your reward for getting through it. It's off topic, (mods forgive me) but relevant to your profession and hilarious!

:cheer2:Say it louder for the people in the back! Back in 2018, that is.

Someone in a comment said " Being a gold person in life is much more important than being a gold champion in sports" couldn't agree more
Alina will be loved and respected by more and more Russian people because of her golden heart. She's self-respected and adamant, what's more important is that, she shows so much empathy for other skater's situations.
Bravo Alina!! She told the Russian FS what is the REAL CHAMPION.

An interview with Lisa K. The whole thing is worth reading but here are the Alina relevant parts -

“The emotions are the coolest. To be honest, the feeling that we won the team Olympics. Very funny. More, of course, there was a feeling that this was some kind of show, but the team spirit was present. Very cool, ” Khudaiberdieva began.

- What can you say about the atmosphere inside the Red Machine?
- Although we were divided into two teams, we should not forget that we are all the Russian national team, we are all in the same boat. I have a good relationship with all the guys. But it so happened that those with whom we communicate very well ended up in the same team with me. So Alina chose! Due to this, I think, there was cohesion and team spirit.

People write and say that Alina is closed, someone says that she is unemotional. Perhaps she is a really closed person - when there is such a stir around our girls, it is impossible to do otherwise. And at the Channel One Cup it opened, was what it really is. Alina is a very cool captain. She encouraged us, helped.

- You had very cool hockey jerseys with surnames. Were they prepared in advance?
- I think that they could not have been prepared in advance. It was a surprise for all of us. We came, rehearsed everything with clubs. Alina said that we go out in red sweaters and with a black bottom. Shortly before the start we come to the dressing room before the opening, and there are jerseys hanging at each place. I guess they were made overnight. I think the Olympic champion has the resources for this (laughs) .

- How was the common number set?
- They put everything together, someone suggested something, but, of course, in half an hour it is almost impossible to put everything, remember, rehearse. It's hard. Therefore, we blinded what we could in a short period of time. The training was half an hour: while we changed our clothes, while we got together, while we were told how to remove the safety device (from the flares), 20 minutes had already passed. But overall, it didn't turn out so badly.

It turned out very cool when you chanted chants with the fans. Was it spontaneous?
- It was the first day. The fans shouted "red car, red car", we are with them. Then they shouted "red", we continued "car". They pointed at us, and we understood what they wanted from us.

We interacted more with our tribune partly because we were like a hockey team. I'm not saying that we are cooler, but it was easier for us, because all the chants were easier to come up with. It is very energizing. We danced around the guys who skated, shouted, pounded with clubs, legs.

You were very worried about the guys from your team. But who caused the most emotion?
- Zhenya with Vova (Tarasova and Morozov - Sport24) , Anya (Shcherbakova - Sport24) , Kamila (Valieva - Sport24) . Dasha (Usacheva - Sport24) skated cleanly, did not flinch and did not disappoint. I didn’t look at the dancers Annabel Morozova with Andrey Bagin, and I was leaving Tiffany with John (Zagorski and Gureiro - Sport24) . For Makar (Ignatov. - Sport24) , Dima (Aliev. - Sport24) and Andrey (Mozalev. - Sport24), I was very worried. But most of all I can single out Zhenya with Vova and Anya.

It seemed to me that Shcherbakova was nervous during the warm-up, something did not work out for her. And I was very worried about her. And Alina and Dasha sat and broke each other's fingers, shouting "breathe, hold on." We were more worried about her condition.

- How did Alina behave as a captain?
- We felt that she was our captain. At some point, we just did what she told us - shouted, supported others. She invited the boys to lift the girls on their shoulders.

- And Makar raised Dima.
- In general, it was not planned (laughs) . We thought that only dancers would raise girls. And they decided that Dima would climb on Makar. We just worked very closely together, picked up each other's ideas, and Alina turned us on, gave orders.

- What would you say to the fans at the end of the interview?
- I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who worried specifically about our couple. A lot of people have written and are still writing, I can't even imagine how to disassemble all this, because I want to answer to everyone and everyone who supports.

Many thanks to Alina for choosing us. Because there is more attention to single skating, especially women's, and many, 70 percent of people, wrote that they had never watched ice dancing, but supported Alina Zagitova's team, others probably wrote that they supported Zhenya Medvedeva's team, and learned that dancing is also cool. This tournament has developed figure skating, there are more fans.

All the posters are huge - very cool. It seems to me that it was a holiday for the audience. And for the skaters too. It was really cool. And it's easier to skate when your guys watch, experience and support.
