All Things Ice Dance: Canadian

Just noticed that Skate Canada has posted Nebelhorn assignments:

Ice Dance
• Kharis Ralph/Asher Hill
• Alexandra Paul/Mitchell Islam

Ladies
• Kaetlyn Osmond

Men
• Andrei Rogozine
• Elladj Baldé

(No Pair assigned.)

Pretty much dead on. I might consider Ten instead of Rogozine, but I prefer Rogozine. Hopefully Ten gets Finlandia.

The top four pairs all have two GPs and their really is no one else major on the senior scene. I think we only have one ladies spot, so Osmond and LaCoste getting split like that is fine (though I want DeSanctis and Najarro to get a spot - Phaneuf is out, of course). Dance is perfect.

Canadian dance fans should keep an eye on the JGP Courchevel this weekend. Edwards and Pang and the Hasegawas will be competing, and if E&P's performance matches those they gave in summer competition, they have a good chance for a medal, IMO

doris..Oh, I've got the time worked out and plan to be here glued to my computer. ... I was pretty thrilled with Edwards and Pang last year ( They were an extremely close second to Poulin /Servant at Canadians ) and I'm delighted to see them come out as ready as they have this year..

I haven't been as excited over a team this young since V/M... Now before anyone thinks I'm saying more than I am, no, I don't quite think they're that good..

But..There is an overall level of development that's rare in a team that young... They're good technically, their skills are well matched( and because of their individual body types ,I've never been too worried that she'll outgrow him ..knock on wood.)..And they have performance quality..she just sparkles and he has a fair amount of the "man in the driver's seat " thing. He is leading , but lets her shine. They're clearly dancing...They pay attention to each other, always...So when I see them, I never notice anything lacking , no major problem. They just have to keep going, growing and doing more of what they do.

I'm pleased for them that they've picked up JGP Bosphorus ,as well.

( and I hope you'll be able to enjoy their FD in spite of it being to "The Artist" ;) )

It's funny, collen. I expect big competitions this year to be rather like the old compulsories - everyone dancing to the same music. Grumbles. Pounds wall.

Yes, I think it would be wise to try to come up with something original. If somebody does a fabulous number to The Artist, for instance, everyone else who uses it will suffer in comparison. It's a big gamble. I thought there was a definitive Black Swan last year, and have trouble recalling all the others.
Comparing today's juniors to teams from the days of compulsories is pretty difficult, so let me say that I think we have a remarkable team in Edwards and Pang. They are so polished.

Now there is a truly frightening thought. A virus aimed at keeping posters off GS. :brrrrrr: I'm just shivering. I know it's off topic, but what did the sites your virus wouldn't let you visit have in common, if anything?
OT

Doris just for the recrd, yes there were random sites, such as: E-bay, canadian specialty TV channels like Sportsnet.ca, or BNN.ca. We couldn't understand hy they became unaccessable. When we got a letter from our cable provider saying we have to get rid of the virus in our network, because they will remove the temporary fix they put in for us to stll be able to navigate, then suddenly it becae clear why. The way it was behaving was the attempt to access those sites ws giving us a "Time-out", after several seconds of trying.

For its latest promotional push for Skate Canada International ticket sales, SC seems to be using a new off-ice photo of Virtue/Moir. http://twitter.com/SkateCanada/status/239017855180496896/photo/1/large

("New" only in the sense of "I do not remember seeing it before" -- not suggesting that it is a super-recent photograph. I think that in the past SC has used other pics of them with the same wardrobe from presumably the same shoot.)

ETA:
And in response to an inquiry about V/M's new programs, Skate Canada ‏@SkateCanada tweeted:
@cleoc12 we will likely be able to share the info during of High Performance Camp the second weekend in Sept!

Thanks to iggie for posting the link on FSU.
[Although no revelations re music selections, lengthy and thoughtful comments from V/M -- in a text article. No video of the Q&A; the "interview" was conducted via e-mail.]

^ Sorry if I was not clear above: the ice-dance.com Virtue/Moir Q&A is not a video. Text only. Will edit my post above.
(Not sure if that means Olympia will not have to wait, LOL.)

That's interesting! Good move, especially with the wackoness of the way pattern dance key points are judged these days, IMO.

I think that's an excellent move for them , since SC and Moscow are pretty close together..

 i'm glad it's not just me who thinks there's some wackoness going on with those sds..

Only i was impressed with Andreanne POULIN / Marc-Andre SERVANT new programs? Yes, pattern part were out of the timing, but really interesting choreo. Look at there body moves. And they are skated so close together. And good idea for FD - suite juniors very well. Somebody could tell story about there coaches?
And i am sad, because Noa already higher, then Lum :scowl:There speed was amazing? they are so expressive. Maybe they need to find another patners for them?

You most certainly were not the only one. I've loved Poulin/Servant since I first saw them (back in 2010 when they teamed up), and my opinion hasn't wavered since. They have speed, power, precision, elegance, expression and chemistry, and are really versatile, all of my favourite qualities packaged into one team. Unfortunately for them, the twizzles seemed to be a constant issue, and they had a tendency of wiping out in important competitions. That's why I was so thrilled to see them win junior Canadians last year with an amazing FD. Then they went to junior worlds and imploded, so I was nervous about how this season would begin.

Well, I shouldn't have been. They're like a new team out there. They've managed to retain all of their qualities, but have added a new dose of confidence. Not to mention the fact that their twizzles, while not perfect, are vastly improved compared to previous seasons. I really enjoyed their hip hop SD (something I never thought I would say about any team), and I found their FD really excellent. I've been watching it over and over. Not only do they pull of the characters really well, I thought the choreo was excellent. Every beat of the music has a movement to match, and the program on the whole flows well and has a lot of innovateive moments. I'm hoping they skate well at their next JGP, because if I'm not mistaked this is Marc-Andre's last year of junior eligability, and I want them to get the chance to got to Junior Worlds once more.

As for their coaches, I know they train in Quebec with Shawn Winter as Elise Hamel (no sure of the name of the club), but I have no idea who does their choreography. I wish I did, as it is ancd always has been excellent.
