Alysa Liu changes coaches and moves to Colorado Springs

Alysa is sponsored by Toyota! Since about a year ago, IIRC.

I do not know who else sponsors Alysa, but being on Team Toyota is huge unto itself.

The Toyota sponsorship certainly is prestigious, and I hope that it relieves financial pressure to some extent. (Yes, skating is expensive.)
Nathan is the only other figure skater on Team Toyota this season.

Things that perhaps(?) have not been mentioned yet:

[1] Leading up to as well as onsite at 2018 Olympics, Drew Meekins was one of Mirai Nagasu's coaches.
He obviously was not her only coach, but he played a significant role in her path to Korea.
As we all remember, Mirai was the first US. woman to land a triple axel :) at the Olympics, and she was a team bronze medalist.
(Drew is well known for working closely with Vincent as choreographer and one of his coaches, of course.
I wanted to make note of Mirai as another example of Drew's students.)

[2] Hersh now has added a quote from Jeremy as well:
I have nothing but deep respect and gratitude for the team I was so lucky to be a part of, and for the time I got to spend mentoring a truly remarkable human being,” Abbott said via text. “Though I may no longer be coaching Alysa, I will always be in her corner supporting her.”
classy response from Jeremy

TSL made a video
To be honest, I'd stop right there...that channel is the cesspit of figure skating, like Twitter is a haven of fair and reasonable discussion compared to the "creators" of that dumpster fire (who should have been sued and thrown out every skating rink in the world after the trash they've put out).

Although this thread is already pretty horrible with all the accusations tossed at Mr Liu, just because you like and admire Jeremy and Massimo doesn't mean Mr Liu can't disagree with the direction they're taken Alysa at the moment and you certainly have no proof of what Alysa thinks either. Like way to call him an abusive father with no evidence whatsoever, that's not a damaging accusation or anything.

Technique taught by Lipetsky only work on tiny girl prior of puberty, not on "women" body. Alysa used to skate slow and she almost came to a halt before the jump. Alysa has much better skating skills, artistic, ice coverage, skating speed and jumping technique now. Alysa restores 3A which is a good sign. Now, she needs to work on fully rotating those 3A and other triples. If she can fully rotate all the jumps she have right now (even without quad), she can score over 220+ easily.

We've never seen it failing tho when she was with her, so these are all assumptions.

She skates better now i'd agree but before she was ready to compete with the russians, while in this GP she was always behind, so something was lost in the change.

In that sense i understand the coaching change, (it's just very sudden so close to the Olympics, let's pray it works for her)

Your TSL assessment is spot on.

Losing weight (just a few pounds) doesn't mean you have to "starve" yourself. That's completely two different things. You just try to eat healthier. More veggies/fruits. Cut back on soda and junk food. Let's face it, Tonya won't be able to rotate quad like Kamila. Tonya didn't land 3A as much as Tuk in competitions.
Funny that you are mentioning Tuk, who has also been accused by jump "experts" of needing to lose weight.

False dichotomy. If you asked those nutrition professionals, they would agree with me.
Thank you for saying this. It is possible to be healthy and win medals. And that's the only way medals should be won. Nobody should ever, ever be encouraged to develop an eating disorder – a life-threatening medical condition that often carries severe lifelong consequences – for the sake of a medal in any competition, anytime, anywhere. I for one don't want to watch any athlete who has been coaxed or pressured or forced to sacrifice physical health for performance, let alone a competition full of such athletes. That's not my idea of achievement, or entertainment.

I know they gossip and can get annoying. That is why I mentioned that they said ALYSA fired her coaches. She is 16! They say what they want just to create drama.

Do you think UR issues can be fixed in 2 months?
I think her UR issues can be fixed with a less ambitious layout. A 2A+Eu+3F makes way more sense even though a 3Z+Eu+3F is more impressive. It's not worth the half-ish point higher BV. She can go for a 3Z+3T to start the second half jumping passes and if she botches it she can add the 3T to her second 3Z attempt. Much safer, and if even one of those passes is cleanly around instead of UR, it'll be worth it.

Why doesn't she do a 3S after her Euler? That is what she used to do. It is not as impressive and difficult, but she might rotate her 3S better than her 3F.

They didn't take long to make it official. Her Bio has completely changed and says "Former Coaches" there's a long list that started with Jeremy.
Current Coaches Christy Krall and others.
