Amber Glenn Comes Out as Bi/Pan

I was thinking the same thing. I finished his book last week. It was very insightful and moving. And at times, made me literally LOL. :)

I haven't read it yet, but listening to his longer interviews, that's exactly what's so great about Adam. Insightful, moving, and laugh out loud funny. :)

This is really great to hear. It’s so important for athletes to come out and be who they are because when it does happen it’s helping others that look up to them or people who are watching or reading this realize that they aren’t the only ones. They may realize it’s ok to actually be who you are and not be so scared or repercussions to be true to yourself. It’s a “if they can do it I can too” type feeling. It takes a lot of bravery to come out in such a public light. Proud of her and anyone else who can do or has done this.

It is almost 2020 and there are still only a handful of out skaters.

I dont know....I have been in this sport since the last century and many of my friends at the events are LGBT and it just seems so common knowledge that certain coaches, skaters, whatever are also...it just doesnt seem to be a big deal anymore. I had hoped that some day no one would particularly care if you were LGBT, what color your skin is considered, what continent your great great grand parents came from...yet here I am in the 21st century turning on the news and hearing all about this little girl of this skin color or that person of this sexual preference....make me sad that our media is still calling out people by this insignificant stuff.....love you Amber....I still hope I can get yet another pic of you with me to add to my collection at San Jose. I will look at the camera next time! ;)

Great pic, Chris:thumbsup:

But it’s not the media, in this case, who think it’s important, it’s the skaters. Honest skaters telling their truth so that others feel less alone.

Whether you care, or I care, or the man in the moon cares, is not important. The skater cares. And if they care, that’s good enough for me:yes:

el henry, I hear what you say, and I feel for her and yes, I bet she feels a whole lot better...but not telling her preference doesnt make her a dishonest person. And I dont think you meant to imply that.

Not talking about her case right now, but any skater from Plano Texas with an LEO for a father who works all the overtime he can to help out who wants to raise money for her skating program might have problems raising money in any conservative area. Its just a political fact. Doesnt mean its right...but we all have facts about ourselves that we dont tell everyone....doesnt mean we are dishonest or hiding anything....we have a right to our privacy.

Ref: "Whether you care, or I care, or the man in the moon cares, is not important."

I respectfully disagree. Its critical. She is part of the solution. But I still want to live to see a day when the media stops using sexual preference, skin tone, continent of great great grandparents origin, sex, for their own political reasons so we can get on as a culture and dump discrimination of any kind.

its a fact. And beside that and more important

When I first read this I thought - who cares! I wish it didn't matter or that someone didn't have to admit their sexual preferences that it should or could be just a part of life. As far as being a role model - like Coyote Chris says, there are so many LGBTQ people in the skating world that it's not a big surprise anymore and there are certainly a lot of role models. I hope that Amber is
comfortable with herself and that there aren't any negative repercussions. But quite frankly - I don't care if you are in love with a zebra. It's your life and your choice and shouldn't matter to anybody else.

No, it shouldn't. But it does. Hate crimes against LGBTQ people are on the rise worldwide. There will undoubtedly be an attempt in the foreseeable future to reverse gay marriage in the US courts. It is still perfectly legal to deny a LGBTQ person housing or fire them from a job because of their sexuality in most of the US on a state level. Those are also the facts.

Silence=Death. And not just on a physical level. Invisibility is also a kind of death. And there are many people who would like to render all LGBTQ people invisible. So yes, the Amber Glenns of the world are and will also for the foreseeable future, be important.

Good for Amber! I'm also glad she has supportive team around her, it's what everyone deserves :)

Thisi s kind of sad that this is news. Amber should be treasured and respected for who she is and not her sexuality or who she is attracted too or not. A skater is a person first then a skater and reall------------------------------y it doesn't matter who they are interested in sexually. I mean should it be news or is it news that Evan L. came out as straight? Sadly that is probably news but it shouldn't be. The fact that he married to a female should not be newsworthy but probably it is to many? That shouldn't be news nor should this. You go person Amber! live life.

This is such happy news.

In a world where people who differ from the norm are marginalized, vilified, made to feel there's something wrong with them, made to hide who they really are ... every time someone can share their true selves, that takes us one step closer to a world where all of the above is a step in a good direction, IMO.
