American Idol - Anyone Watching?

I am still cheering for Elliot. He has the best voice of the lot. None of the women are outstanding. They are rather hohum - even Paris who is overrated. There is just nothing special about any of the ladies.

Looking forward to Canadian Idol.

:agree:

I really though Elliot would go last night, but all in all Ace had to go too.

So they are singing classic love songs next week? Should be interesting.

JMHO, but the Picklemiester was AWFUL this past week. I don't think Ace is a great singer, but based on the performances, he got the shakedown.

Interesting that the website www.votefortheworst.com is back up and in business this season. If you recall, they are the website that states that Idol is a sham and that they know who they want to win in the first place so you can "vote for the worse" to dilute the process.

You may remember, this is the same group that kept Scott Sandoval (who started the whole "phone sllinging"craze before Russell Crow or Naomi Campbell) well into the competition long after someone should have put him out of our misery, er, I mean should have been voted off before he was.

NOW, votefortheworst.com has endorsed (drumroll, please) THE PICKLER as it's choice to support. Guess she's got more than fabulous shoes to support her now!

I think Catherine and Paris have wonderful voices, each with unique styles all their own. Either one could win and would be deserving. My money is still with Chris as winning the whole thing. Both Rueben and Fantasia were in the bottom three at one time and came out on top, so anything can happen......love Elliott's voice and personality, though...........would rather see Taylor go at this point.........just don't get his popularity...........42

I agree about Elliot...and yes, Taylor has got to go. Everyone of his performances is the same!!!!! Sorry, I just don't think any of the gals have that special something. Their voices are okay, but nothing outstanding.

How can you not like Paris? She is such a little performer. Why oh why is Kelli still here?

so do Elliot and Chris and everyone else... each have their own style of singing so it's going to sound the same... I love the tone/quality in Taylor's voice, and he's fun...

I'm sick of rockers and big voices winning (which he has a pretty big voice too) it's time for someone more soulful!

Uhm, Rubin was pretty soulful.

From the say it ain't so files I saw Mikayla from last season on the Tyra Banks Show yesterday. She is now a blonde and some kind of correspondent for Tyra's show. Toned down but stil waaaaaay too annoying.

IIRC his albums have been more hip hop than what he did on the show... and that was one of the reasons why a lot of people didn't buy his second because they were disappointed in his first...

I wasn't impressed with what I heard on his first album either... and in retrospect Clay's wasn't all that great either lol but it was closer to what he did on the show... if that makes sense?

I think that one of the downfalls of AI is that during the competition all we get to hear are covers. Then they release original material that is not written nearly as well as those cover songs. I mean how are going to top "Respect"? So the new Idol has an uphill battle. Kelly Clarkson is gettiing good material. I love "The Trouble With Love" from "Love Actually". So IMO it's not the idol's voices but the material that is failing them. Of course choosing good material is part of the job too and the competition does emphasize that. Do any of the Idols write their own material?

Kelly, Bo, and Fantasia all have partial credits to some of their songs... not sure about any of the others that have released stuff.

Go Chris!

Chris was awesome last night (on the show, that is) - perfect song choice for him - I like Elliot, too, but I hope Chris wins it all.

I enjoyed Chris more last week, honestly... but it was a good song choice...

I thought Taylor was stiff, like Simon pointed out

also thought Paula was on her happy pills again... she is so weird anymore! why'd they sign her on for more seasons? DUMB! I'm not sure how much more Paula I can take

Elliot was good

was it just me or did they sound better in the rehearsals than on stage? Is the pressure building this early? Normally we don't see everyone freeze up till top 5 or 4...

Kellie was awful last night... that was not the right song for her.... at all...

Paris is still too much hype for me. I just don't get her... she has an interesting voice but I'm not into her...

Katherine was a lot better than the judges made her out to be last night... she was the strongest female vocal tonight IMHO.

it was a pretty good night overall... love me some David Foster and Andrea Boccelli!

I thought Katherine was amazing, but...........they don't like anyone to sing Celine or Whitney..........I don't know why they choose songs from either one of these performers................42

Chris was great, once again. He is the only one of this year's Idols whose voice really appeals to me no matter what he sings.

I was surprised that I enjoyed last night's show as much as I did. My favorite moment wasn't on stage, though - it was when Katherine and Andrea did their little duet. I was impressed that she didn't seem the least bit intimidated, just started singing like Andrea Bocelli drops by her house a few times a week for lunch and a sing-along. I wish her performance had been as impressive, but it certainly wasn't as bad as the judges made it out to be. The dress was a braver choice than the song, though!
Paris and Taylor seemed really mediocre to me last night, but so were the song choices. ("The Way We Were"?! Really, Paris. I'll bet your mom isn't even old enough to remember that movie.)
Kellie was atrocious, but that high note helped my ear infection - my ear finally popped when it started to bleed. But, more importantly, can we just declare an immediate and permanent moratorium on "Unchained Melody"? No one is ever going to top the Righteous Brothers version. People should really stop trying. I'm not even going to follow that with an "in my humble opinion". Just stop covering "Unchained Melody", people. Now. Please?
My favorite performances were from Elliott and Chris, but can someone tell me how the heck Chris has lasted as long as he has without learning how to sing from his diaphragm? That may explain his raspy vocal quality - he's been making shredded wheat out of his vocal cords for years. He should lay down to sing more often.
And I think I'd like some of what Paula's having! Why should the judges get all the good drugs, huh?
Rave

Do the guest performers help the idols choose their songs? What really p***** me off was that you had Foster and Bocelli there working with the idols and seeming pleased with the songs and the way they were performed in practice. Then when they sing the same songs in front of the three stooges all of the sudden it is a terrible song choice. I am thinking that David Foster would have picked up on that and at least tried to convince the idol to choose a different song.

I think David Foster heard completely different singers... because they seemed much more at ease with him (even when he was being all hard nose) than they did on the stage... not sure what that was all about...

Ravyn - Clay Aiken did the song justice in season 2

ITA that the singer can be different in practice than on stage. But, if the song is right for the singer isn't it still right even if performed badly? Is it song selection or performance? I wonder if the guest for the week would tell an idol if they thought the song was overly ambitious? Or do they just try to help the idol make the best of the song they choose?

Calling RGal we need a consult please.

Toni, Clay did an excellent job with UM. I wonder if Kelli knew the story behind the song? Isn't her father in prison?

I thought that Kat = Chris were the best = Elliot was ok = Paris ?? = Taylor I don't know what it is about him but I just can't stand him = and Kelly was really bad = America voted and bye bye Kelly = she didn't even get a chance to sing a last song = she kept talking and talking
