American Idol - Season 7

Why is it that it seems the contestants don't go home on the nights they flub it up but on nights when they did a bit better?
As much as I adore Jason's looks and his beautiful eyes, he would've went home if it were up to me and Brooke would've got another week.
But then again, as much as David A. is grating on my nerves I might've sent him home and let both Brooke and Jason stay another week.

Oh well...I just know that if David Cook does not win this, I won't watch AI again. I WILL vote when it gets down to the last 3, for David C.

I thought it was hilarious that Ryan Seacrest had to go on the air and say, no, all those Internet rumors saying that we are going to fire Paula for her flub Tuesday night, that's wrong, we still love her.

But the show never did apologize for its big lie to the viewers, which Paula inadvertently let slip.

In case you missed it, what happened was this. The show claims (falsely) to be "live." But on Tuesday, after the contestants sang their first songs, evidently their was a timing glitch and Ryan tried to fill space by hurriedly calling the singers out on stage and asking the judges to comment on their first songs. Paula went on and on about how someone's first song was OK, but she didn't like the second one, etc. After an embarassing long time Randy intervened to say, um, Paula, we haven't heard the second song yet, remember?

I read that apparently Simon said in an interview a few months ago that they usually watch the rehearsals that day since during the live performances it's hard to hear with the crowd being in the place. So she actually did hear the two songs, but not during the show. This is one of the reasons why I think this is the worst season of idol ever....why I am not really watching it anymore......and this is also the reason why the ratings are way down this season.

I often feel like I can't hear the singers' voices well because of the band being too loud! It's like if I can really hear the voice, I know it's a strong performance.

I knew Paula made some sort of mistake, but I didn't know all the background behind it.

I don't take the show seriously enough to get upset over things. If I did, I would've never watched past the 2nd season. And the 2nd season is the first time I watched it. When all the talk was going on about "Kelly or whatever the heck the dudes name was", I had NO IDEA what they were talking about!

But then again, as much as David A. is grating on my nerves I might've sent him home and let both Brooke and Jason stay another week.
Why does he grate on your nerves???

Dee

Justin Guarini the first of many overrated Idol contestants... blah!

Jason is probably the next to go... it's him or Syesha...

Brooke has been going downhill for weeks... I thought her first song was awful the other night. Totally over the top and, to quote Simon, Karaoke.

I like Jason and I like Brooke, they're not going to win... but I'd buy their albums (I love Jason's performances at church that are going on Youtube... someone get him a deal with Sparrow records!)

David Cook is destined to win by America... David Archuleta is the show's pick...

season two saw the producers/judges have their way... will that happen again?

Well, now that 2 of my ideal top 3 are now gone (early on, I wanted David C, Brooke, and Carly), I am rapidly losing interest. I like Jason, but I don't like him well enough to have him still be around at this point and I would LOVE to know (tho Tonichelle pretty much answered this in the post above) why on earth David "Sock Puppet" Archuleta is allowed to sound exactly the same week after week after week and gets NO criticism whatsoever for doing so. I'm tired of Randy always saying how he can sing ANYTHING when he most certainly CAN NOT. If it falls outside the "schlock zone", forget about it. Syesha may not exactly light the place on fire (tho I think she's had some terrific performances), but one thing you can say for her is that of the 4 remaining, she has DEFINITELY shown us the widest variety of songs and performances. The other 3 seem to be stuck in the same box week after week, tho David C. is so talented I'd probably be disappointed if he stepped outside it.

Brooke did lose a lot of momentum as this season went on, tho. I thought her "I'm A Believer" was like something out of a re-make of "A Mighty Wind", but I really liked her take on "I Am I Said" (tho if you substitute Arizona for New York, it kind of screws up the lyric about being caught between both coasts, but that's a minor quibble). Based on overall performance, tho, if this lady records an album down the road, I will be one of the first people in line to buy it.

I guess I'm not really understanding why everyone picks on David A. If the judges like him why is that his fault and then to be compared to a "sock puppet." That's pretty low..in ranking puppets, mind you. I think finger puppets are the lowest of the low.

I think he does a great job for being just a little boy.

True but the judges are so wrong to always tell him he's wonderful when he's not. They tell him he is awesome even when he gives a dull performance; they don't treat anyone else like that! And when Jason gave a good performance on 'Forever in Blue Jeans' he didn't get any credit at all for it from the judges. Not right.

:rofl::rofl: that was my aunt's biggest problem with it the other night, too!:laugh::laugh:

But why is that David A's fault?? I think he's terrific, again he is just a little boy. At least he tries. He doesn't have the finesse of a David Cook yet.

about Brooke changing the lyric to - Arizona = Neil Diamond suggested she do that = to make the song more personal = in this case -she took his advice and changed it

Ya just like Carly took ALW's advice and sang Jesus Christ, Superstar instead of Music of the Night! Hmmm.......anyhow, no it's not David A's fault that the judges continue to praise him no matter what kind of performance he gives; I wasn't saying that at all. It's the judges, and it's not fair to the other contestants is all I was saying.

I didn't mean "sock puppet" in an ENTIRELY derogatory sense; a lot of sock puppets are actually quite cute and David A is -- well, he's cute, he's small.... However, the main problem I personally have with him is that there is something about him that comes off as entirely too coached, like someone else is controlling him (the "stage father" rumors do not help); kind of like a male version of those teen beauty pagaent girls. The other 3 remaining contestants (well, all the finalists this year, actually) at least most of the time come off as being THEMSELVES; I don't get that impression from David A at ALL.

re. Brooke's Arizona/New York substitution: It's kind of a variation of that lyric from Sade's "Smooth Operator" -- "Coast to coast, LA to Chicago..." Um.... Chicago is in the MIDWEST, it is NOT on the East Coast, therefore that lyric is rather askew....

JonnyCoop, I know you meant well. I don't get the controlling vibe from him at all, but that's not saying much. I guess what I see is a talented little boy that has lots of charisma.

I didn't see it all, because I was switching back and forth to see Kristi on Dancing with the Stars. But from what I heard, I jave to agree with Simon. David Archeletto crushed the competition.

I have to agree with Simon too = Jason Pack Your Bags = personally I think he should have gone home long before making it to the top 4

more 'ballad' type songs from David... *yawn* this is such a predictable group...

oh well.. from what little I saw Jason's days on idol are done...

It REALLY is -- and given what a group of varied talent that STARTED this season, it's a major letdown. That had to be the lamest Final 4 show ever.

However, I'd give the night to Syesha, which is not really saying much. Her first song was quite good; she did a good job with a song I don't like to start with and as far as Simon saying it was "shrieky" -- well, it's a shrieky song!! She should NOT have done the Tina Turner dance moves, tho -- it was almost as bad as Brooke's Woooo!! And Twirl when she did "Here Comes The Sun". Her second song was erratic, but I think the good outweighed the not-so-good there. Second place to David Cook -- "Hungry Like The Wolf" was dull and pedestrian and he can do much better, but "Baba O'Reilly" (and why is that song called that anyway??) was much more his thing. Third to David A -- I think he oversang the first one (you don't have to drag out every single note!!) and as to the second, he's a little too -- er -- fresh-faced to pull off romantic ballads with any credibility at this point. As to Jason -- "I Shot The Sheriff" was an absolute TRAIN WRECK. "Mr. Tambourine Man" was much better -- it was just merely a total mess. And he sped it up so much you'd think he was double-parked or something.
