Among other things, Alissa has finally learned to take a good picture:)

Goodness, gracious, before she'd just have the weirdest facial expressions in all the pictures I saw of her. Kind of like this one.
But the more recent pictures I've seen of her have been gorgeous
Haha just another amusement as the season has started rolling. What other skaters do you think are photogenic/not? What are some of the best/worst pictures you've seen of different skaters?

Alissa is one of only a few skaters who DO NOT present weird faces when jumping. Look closely at Alissa, she always has a pleasant coutenance (presentation).

Well that's the thing. When I'm watching videos of her, I never see a bad expression, but it just seems like the photographers can find things you would have never known were there watching her. I think she is an extremely beautiful girl.

Tiffany Stiegler is very photogenic. I don't think I've ever seen a bad picture of her! Denis Petukhov looks pretty darn good in pictures, too.

Yags is extremly photogenic, but even he looks weird during jumping or spinning.

I like Plush, he's not handsome in an usual sense, quite interesting/unique instead, but I've seen some really horrible jumping/spinning pics of him at Yahoo. But then, Yahoo is a master in taking ugly pics of skaters. ;)

As for Czisny - too much make up for my taste!

Elena Sokolova is certifiably cute, but when she gained on her teenage years, she felt it an impediment, and she cut off her ponytail because,as she put it,"I was tired of looking like a 14-year old".Consequently, when she is up in the air,she has a tendency towards some rather hair-raising shots!Love the gal,but some pics make me chuckle:laugh:

The "hair-raising" still shots of Elena are quite funny, but, I love the way her hair falls back into place so easily.

I think when it's sports photography you have to cut some slack--it's not like they're posing for a picture, except at the very beginning or end. Sometimes when you're doing something athletic you can get a weird look on your face. Even in the shots taken by a professional photography from back when I was showing my horse, there's a difference between the ones from the lineup at the end of the class or pattern, where I knew he was shooting me, and ones taken 'in action'. I usually have a slightly distracted expression in the latter, like I'm thinking about something else. Which I am, usually--my ride, something the horse just did, watching what someone else in the ring is doing, etc. My brother tends to have a slightly scary expression in pictures when he's on a jump course--scary-focused, don't piss-me-off kind of look. (When I'm jumping, on the other hand, the look plainly says, "Oh, God, oh, God, please don't let me fall off...") Even dancers sometimes get funny looks, because they don't always have total control over their expressions.

And honestly, people who smile all the time when showing (or skating) kinda freak me out. Had one girl in my 4-H club whose grin was paestd on yay every time she went out in a class. Very. Weird. And the girls on dance team, who'd do the 'vowel thing' to look like they were smiling. (Dance team/cheerleading people probably know what I mean.)

 That's the funniest skating photo yet

But JV- I'm inclined to agree. Many good points made. I don't think the skaters really care anyway. They know their picture will be taken but that's kind of what an "action" shot is. It's more about the feat (performance) than the pose. Poses can be done off the court/ice/field.

Alissa is a very photogenic skater and she is sooo beautiful to boot. Other skaters that I see as photogenic are Tatiana Navka, Viktoria Volchkova, Susanna Poykio, Alexei Yagudin, Sergei Dobrin, Andrei Maksimishin, Sylvia Fontana, Alexander Abt, Yulia Obertas, and Nora Hoffmann...
