Darn shame. 1 point changes so much. She was top five Nationals last year wasn't she? It didn't mean much to rusfed. I personally think she skates better than she is scored but the judges don't think so and if they keep scoring her how can she have a future with all the talent around her?
 
No one has posted in here for 11 days and nothing so far about Russian nationals so I can only surmise that her short program was a disappointment. I hope not. That's my feeling at this point and I'll go search for a video or score now. But not seeing any posts in here to me means that she probaby struggled today. I sure hope with the pressure off for the free skate that Nastya nails it showing off her beautiful elegant skating. such incredible competition at ladies Russian Nationals.

Has any country ever had so many good skaters at one time and one discipline like the Russians do with their ladies? I can't remember any country ever having so much talent in one discipline at one time until now.

She skated well. She is in 8th place with over 70 in points.

Thank you for the update. The competition is so brutal when I didn't see any posting about her today I got concerned. Nastya has to deal with so much competition among the Russian ladies it's really unbelievable and for her to score over 70 points today is very good. She finally got over 70 points in the short program this season that pleases me a lot. I think she finish top five last year at Russian Nationals and that will be very tough to duplicate this year because of the incredible depth. Good to know she skated well with all the great Juniors and seniors there.
 
Oh Anastasia was very good. I'm an amateur viewer, but I got the feeling that she has one of the best one foot skating out there. I think it's incredible.

I think she is too there's a lot to like about her she's very beautiful as is her skating but Nastia is buried under the top Russian women and top Russian juniors. She is not scored as high as I think she should be and I wonder if she's wondering if she sees a way to get ahead of some of the competition in the future. It's going to be very tough but I hope she can do it. I don't know if she will have to add 3A or quad at some point but I would think so since girls younger than her are doing them quads anyway she will have to add a 3Avat the very least in the next couple years.

Nastya is my hero. She is a musical whiz, as the Brubeck proves once again. Only Nastya would dare use music based on 5 beats per measure, and only Nastya has the musical intelligence to make it work visually. In this music the 5 beats of each measure are grouped into a unit of 2 beats followed by a unit of 3 beats. You can't march to this stuff because the 2-3 repetitions are not symmetrical, but Nastya can skate to it. She turns clumsy imbalances of 2-followed-by-3 into elegant objects of fascination. Her choreo of the drum solo is really off the charts. And once again the judges with bullets in their heads miss everything. You are truly great, Nastya, I kneel before you.

Take Five has been used in figure skating before, FYI. Patrick Chan did it in 2010-2012. I think there may have been others as well.

Thanks, that' an interesting analysis of how she handles the 5/4 in Take Five. On the "B" side of the old Brubeck SS I had there's a quaint 7-beats-to-the-bar piece called Unsquare Dance. That's also pretty weird to try to follow.

Nice to see Nastya (and coaches) looking thoroughly happy with her performance in the SP. :)

Thanks, I am interested in all programs using irregular rhythms.

Chan skates mostly to the notes. On the other hand, Nastya constantly emphasizes the underlying 5 beat measures subdivided into 2 and 3 beat units. This hypnotic 3:2 rhythm is the foundation of the entire piece, everything takes place above it. If you start at 0:29 of this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWM9LKK8P0I and watch her full body movement (not just arms and legs), you will see the lopsided 3:2 rhythm expressed in her full body movement. This choreo holds our attention because of the uneven quality of the 3:2 measures which we find exotic and a little difficult to follow for both ear and eye. She finds many ways to express the 3:2 base. The last part of the drum solo is most complex. Beginning at about 2:35 she stops, turns, rotates, etc. to emphasize the basic 3:2 repetitions. Her body flows to the 3:2 hypnotic rhythm. She elaborates the actual notes of the drum solo into this basic body movement. All this is done with the elegance we have come to expect from Nastya.

If we think back to her past programs, she often chose music that alternated between long held notes and a few short notes, such as Summertime. Long-short is exactly the effect of the 3:2 additive rhythm. Nothing new, but now with a mastery that better portrays the structure of the music.
 
Did she do okay today in the free skate? Hoping Nastya scored over 200 points and I think that would be the first time as a senior in a senior event when she got over 200.
 
Absolutely love her beautiful and lyrical skating even with one fall in FP. Overall, this is her best performance this season. Her every movement connects with music so well and I 'm always touched by her expression.

Hope that she will have at least one GP for next season.
