Fallen angel's transformation

Short interview by Rusfed

- Every season you present interesting programs with unusual plots and music selection. How do you manage to make productions that can surprise?
- There is more than one person in our team, and everyone brings something different to the table. The music for the new short program was suggested by Denis, I liked it, and so the idea was born with the short and free program as two chapters of one book.

We started from the image of an angel being cast out to earth. That's the first part. And the second - on earth he learns to live among people and through love, compassion, hope and faith tries to find his place. The common theme of both programs is the search for self, the journey to find oneself.

- This is emphasized by the costumes, which are made in the same stylistic solution. The costumes are similar in some ways, but different. You can explain.
- Our idea was realized by designer Maria Yevstigneeva. We thought for a very long time, we chose. The wings on the jacket are a reference to the image of an angel. The ancient font itself is a stylization. It's not a phrase, it's not a quote, it doesn't make any sense. It's just an imitation of the font under ancient books, which is necessary to reveal the image.

- The idea to make two programs united by one theme has been there before. For example, at one time Denis Ten rolled programs about a pianist.
- But Denis's free program was a continuation of the short program. And with us, they are two separate stories, like finished episodes in a TV series.

- In figure skating, the story and the plot are certainly important for artistic expression, but the technical component has not been canceled. If the skating is clean and the program looks interesting, but if the skating is faulty, the spectacularity is gone.
- Not always even with clean skating the program looks interesting. I like when the program makes sense.

- Andrei, you keep your own social networks, don't you?
- Let's just say that my fan group helps me run it. We communicate quite closely. They are very creative people. By the way, they helped us a lot with the libretti of my new programs. This kind of communication helps me personally.

- You will perform at the Grand Prix stages in Ufa and Samara. What about the show program tournament? Not so long ago there was a somewhat strange comment from you.
- Last season the show program tournament was held for the first time, and there were some confusing moments. We thought that we should show some exclusive things at this tournament, things that no one else does. But I guess we didn't understand it completely. If we are invited to this tournament this season, of course, I will participate. I really hope everything will work out.
- Success and good luck!

Fingers crossed for FS, and today was quite a good skate of the short program! Except for a lurch on the landing from 3A and some errors on the sequence steps, everything was executed successfully. Finally the program started to look good. The impression that he took a full lungful of air, held his breath and exhaled only after the final pose, so easy and uninterrupted all the elements were performed.

Let's hope for a good skating tomorrow!

World Junior Champion and bronze medalist of the Russian Championship in men's singles skating Andrei Mozalev commented on his skating short program at the first stage of the Russian Grand Prix. Mozalev received 97.14 points from the judges and took an intermediate third place.

"It seemed that it would be over a hundred? No, no. I knew right away that it wouldn't be, because [there were] certain joints on the spins, I didn't do the Bedouin one very well - the light hit there or something, I didn't finish the turns and I got the third level. But overall I'm happy with it. I'm getting in shape, I've just started the season.

Support from the public? I heard everything, very cool. I did not expect Ufa to have so many people and such support.

I still hope that someday we will be admitted, so for now I will work and learn something new - to be 200 percent ready when I go to the international arena. These are new jumps, new quadruples, new cascades, new spins. To complicate the track, to work on it. Yes, there is enough motivation", - Mozalev's words are transmitted by the correspondent of "Championship" Anastasia Matrosova.

Group hugs, people, we need it :ghug: As usual, in the free skating program the luck was exhausted, but Andrei still managed to get on the podium. At the moment, this is the best that could have been achieved, so it's not bad. Andrei gets a medal, bonuses and a good chance to qualify for the RusNat.
Of course, it was an unsuccessful ride, the most difficult jumps failed, and the costume and program were met by the judges very cool, but.... Let's just be happy for the guy, it could have been worse.

He managed to win his bronse with short, but at the moment, even 6th place/National team looks a bit dicey. But Mozalev always manages to squeak by. Which is so frustrating given how good his everything is, except, obv, jumps. Ice dance?

I'm afraid that with his short height he will be able to find a partner, and even if so, the life span of dance couples is too short, it doesn't inspire enthusiasm...

Let's see. But I dunno if my nervous system can take more of his falls. I love the guy and wish so desperately he finds the way to skate clean...

Andrei Mozalev:

- Of course, it's good that I'm in the top three. But it's not what I wanted and planned. I will work further. What didn't work out? I was a little tight at the beginning of the program, I didn't get the first jump. Because of that, it was hard to ride.

- What did this start teach you?
-That there is no need to think about anything. You just have to ride for fun. But it's very hard not to think. It's years of training.

- Do you have satisfaction from the start?
- Not today. Yes, I made it to the top three, but it didn't make my skating any better.

- You are here without coach Kirill Davydenko. Why?
- It was my decision. Kirill Anatolievich asked me who I wanted to go with. I said with Denis Lunin.

- How do you like this experience?
- It's not the first time I go to competitions with him. It's already been a good experience. I'm at ease with it.

- Will you take Kirill Anatolievich with you next time?
- We'll see.

Alina: - Well, Andrei, I see you're not alone.... What name shall we give him?
Andrei: - I have no idea. Paddington? (smiles)

Did Andrei`s mom read books about Paddington to Andrei when he was a kid? 🧸

Alina: - Tell me about your skating, how you feel about it.
Andrei: - It was a bad skate. There were three jumps missing. Honestly, I'm a better skater even in practice.
Alina: - What will you pay attention to after this skate?
Andrei: - First of all, I will think about my physical shape. Although I'm in good shape, these competitions show that I'm not quite ready physically yet.
