Andrei Mozalev

I wonder what's going on with with Mozalev, not yet properly recovered from his surgery? Something else?
Who knows, but it’s heartbreaking to watch him struggle so much with gaining second quad. I wish he had enough components to stick to the toe, and skate on with that, at least for now. multi-quads and 3A is hard 😒

Aww, good fight from Mozalev. He must be injured or can’t recover still. Hugs and I guess he still has France? Or will he do CoR? Will keep watching! πŸ™

Yay, bronze!

And, yay, found his gala separately, since the whole recording got blocked because of music copyright violation in Canada.

Well, on the bright side, his spins and spread eagles are there big time. Hugs all around, tissues, and I am going for a zen walk before taking in a healing stretch during ice dance.

I am trying to understand what is the issue with Mozalev. Is it physical, mental or a combination of the two. It is mind boggling to see Kagiyama's transition to the senior level versus Mozalev's. What is happening? Am a big fan of Mozalev and hope he comes back with a vengeance in the free skate tomorrow, something that he has done before.

I think his technique is very good for triples but not for quads.

It is jump related, so maybe it’s the surgery that was unsuccessful or he might not be gaining or simply have enough in him to have two different quads to put 3 in one program.

He seems to have incredibly stubborn athletic character, because I am not sure why on this particular occasion, he risked 4S that was never working well for him instead of doing triple-triple combo which becomes the way to go in men’s competitions now.

That struggle for the 2nd quad is destroying him jump wise, but he is absolutely becoming deeper and more soulful.

We probably won’t hear from him though, as he is not likely to pour his soul out.

So, something is wrong and hopefully time will help. A lot of men sit out a year or two and get back stronger, like look at Savosin and Erokhov this year. So, fingers crossed.

Maybe Ignatov and Mozalev need to coach-swap for a year, because they are pretty much each-other’s opposite number.

Second half of this interview is Mozalev answering Trankov’s questions prior to GP France. He wishes he could have learned piano and violin if he could have learned something at the snap of his fingers (played piano until figure skating took over) & likes crepes and carbonara as rare treats for food. Likes working with his coach, who had an intimidating first impression on him. He currently studies to become a coach in the future. He did consider himself prepared for France. His short run through looks great. Cites Plushenko and Yagudin as his influences (charisma and resilience) as well as Kagiyama, Hanyu and Chen.

Honestly, I applaud that combo with an added spin out, though I would have prefers it clean 🀣. But at least it was a combo. No 4S in the short still. 😭 Kinda getting cautiously optimistic with Mozalev hanging out in top six, or maybe seventh. His score is very close to the top so far too and 🀞he nudges his PB by a few points with a free, though I don’t expect as beautiful skate as he had in France.

And I love this program.
