Andrew Torgashev

There’s a super-quick 10 minute interview with Torgs on today’s “This Week in Skating” podcast. He talks a little about his time in Milan and on the SOI tour. When asked about continuing, he sounds very much on the fence saying [in my best paraphrasing] that he's accomplished all of his goals and that he'll see how he feels about preparing for the GP after SOI and some vacation time. His interview starts at about the 13 minute mark.

Happy Birthday, Andrew (a day late, I know)! Last May, he was dealing with the devastation of 2025 Worlds. This May, he is doing Stars on Ice as a result of making the Olympic Team (good finish individually there), plus he finished top 10 at 2026 Worlds. He seems happy in all the SOI photos and videos I have seen, having such wonderful experiences.

I found these great-quality fancams of his SOI programs. What I love most is that without competition requirements, he can do whatever the music calls for, like pausing for emphasis and doing all the little flourishes with his body.

For those with access to Peacock, "Toast to Milan" is happening today (2:00pm Eastern). Based on IG posts, Andrew will appear but may or may not feature that much. I'll probably watch and decide if it's worth talking about or downloading. The description on Peacock says, "Team USA’s figure skating stars reunite to reflect on the top stories and moments from the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan Cortina, hosted by Adam Rippon."

Andrew is doing a seminar at his home club in Florida on June 3:

Here is his birthday post on IG. If you have IG and can look through what he's tagged in, there are also some sweet birthday wishes from others. The backflip in "harness" may scare you, but the post includes a nicer backflip from an actual show, plus recent pictures.

For the 2026-27 GP, Andrew got Skate Canada and Finlandia Trophy. I don't have strong feelings except that I usually like Canadian camerawork. I don't think Andrew has done either of those before.

Here's a fun video from USFS about Olympians' childhood skating memories. Andrew's and Max's were my favorites. Jumping to different planets in practice (Max) and skating to "I Like to Move It Move It" at five years old so quickly he finished 30 seconds early and did the longest scratch spin of his life (Andrew).

I wasn't totally sure about Andrew competing next season, but he does seem to have been training. More proof is that he is listed for Summer Sizzler in August, linked below.

I felt that SOI was good in terms of improving both his confidence and showmanship.I will be curious to see what program he debuts, and if we get any clues soon.

I will be curious how Andrew's experience of performing for several nights in a row with SOI may translate into his competition skating, even though there's inherently less freedom in competition. Will we notice artistic improvements? (This being his Fan Fest, we love his artistry already, but you know what I mean). He didn't seem to miss jumps often at SOI from the performances I could find (I know, I know, he only did 3Ts and 2As and occasionally 3F, and jumping in competition is much different/harder, but still). Having the monkey off his back of going to the Olympics may allow him to skate more freely in future competitions. Or not. But I hope so. SOI is very different because skaters only compete a few times a season, while SOI had 29 shows in two months.

Worth noting that the current Summer Sizzler list is quite short, and yet Andrew is on it. As of now, he intends to compete - yay!

I have always followed Andrew but was always disappointed when he didn't deliver. I always felt like it was in him to skate clean but somehow he always ended up skating with his head instead of his feet. This year was different and we all saw a new Andrew. His foot step sequence was one of the best ever - he threw himself into it heart and soul - and feet. I do hope his experience on SOI and his what seems to be new found confidence carries over into this season.

I want to just agree that I think that Andrew is continuing, despite feeling tired after a long season 🎉 I think SOI may have done him a world of good. He can reconnect with audiences and see how they react to his passionate performances, night after night. More importantly, and this will be vagueposting, but IYKYK, he realized that all other skaters are his teammates, are his colleagues, and that the only person ever standing in Andrew's way was Andrew. And once he got out of his own way, the ice is his canvas.

Not sure how much I love backflips, but hey....:)

For those with access to Instagram, the story for the following has a glimpse of one of Andrew's new programs. It looks interesting, with some cool dance moves (and even a leg kick from SOI!). He is sure enjoying practicing backflips:
