Anna Shcherbakova

here is a longer vid of Anna's interview with Gadzhieva:
Translation:

-Today you are responsible for dancing, for break dancing. How do you feel, how are your impressions, how was the master class?

-It was very cool, very energizing atmosphere, I came a little earlier, there was a battle, the technique was shown, it seemed to me that real professionals performed. It was amazing, but here I was - it was more like a fun pause for those who can't do anything...

- Not true, not true!

-That's why I did a double axel at the end. As I understand it, in any difficult situation, you need to perform a double axel to show that I can do something (laughs). But in fact, it really was a fun break for those who have not yet tried and practiced breakdancing. So maybe if I want to try my hand at breakdancing, then maybe I'll go to some training.

- You were paired with a participant in the project “Dancing on TNT”, with Anton. How did he rate your ability in dancing?

- Well ... I had a small program prepared in advance, and I repeated the movements after him. In general, it was fun, and the main goal was just to attract people to this dance, to show that it's cool, that you need to try something new and not be afraid. And I think that we have achieved this goal today.

-But you are the same person who, during the pandemic, when we were all sitting at home and sad, launched an incredible flash mob on social networks. Even I joined in - and it took me 10 days to learn this dance. And how many days ... no, how many minutes did it take you to learn this dance, which at that time scattered all over the world?

-Actually, I didn’t plan to publish anything on the Internet, I just saw a cool dance, performed it myself and recorded a video on my phone, then showed it to my family, my sister, and everyone said - “how wonderful!” and then I published - and everyone liked it.

-Your love for dancing - it arose a long time ago, it has been going on for years ...

- Yes, I really really like dancing and figure skating in this sense is similar - there is also a dance, and in any program you need to show some kind of image, there are dance moves, and we are separately engaged in dancing - this is our versatile training.

-Your today's image was "break dancer"? This is such a big chain ... Wait, you are still very young, you are a new generation, and I want to ask who created this image - these beautiful lines in the corners of the eyes, who put on makeup, who created a complete picture?

- I did everything myself. I did my own makeup, I dressed myself, I did my own hair. And how it suits me - let the audience and fans evaluate how well I was able to create an image.

- Spectators, we will appreciate?

(audience cheers and applauds)

- Thank you (laughs)

-We have your most dedicated fans here today! Today, here at the Moscow Sports Day, we have a lot of different types of activities, for example, basketball. I remembered today that once, very, very long ago, when you seemed to be still a junior, you posted videos with basketball. You stood with your back to the hoop, then you threw a basketball, and the ball hit the hoop. I even saved this video for myself...

-You probably studied all my posts on Instagram, from the first to the last (laughs)

-Yes, yes, I like these records...

-Thank you, very nice! Indeed, it was. It happened during my vacation or on a day off. I posted this video a long time ago, I think it was before I started to take part in international competitions. Yes, it was such a pretentious video - I stand with my back to the ring, throw the ball and hit it. Well, it's cool... But here, when I was walking, I really noticed that a large number of different sports are represented. Sometimes it is not even immediately clear that these are some unusual, extraordinary sports. And it's very cool that everything is so accessible here - you can try anything. I think it's a great event.

-Last question: what else would you like to try? Now it is fashionable among athletes to try themselves in different sports.

-Difficult question, I don't know. Perhaps I will seriously take up breakdancing - no longer at the level of an entertaining fun break for beginners. Maybe I'll come to a real training, I don't know yet.

-Yes, breakdancing was included in the program of the Youth Olympic Games, and the Russian athlete won there. Therefore, bravo - perhaps Anna will light up in a break dance not like a child. Let's applaud - our champion Anna Shcherbakova, the unique champion of the Olympic Games and the world. We have a tradition - we take selfies. (Anna and Emma take a selfie together)

I remember that, I think it is from 2018.
Anna at that time posted this video on Instagram, but in a slightly different version - there was no her voice, just hitting the basketball hoop and bouncing the ball.

By the way, Daniil Gleikhengauz also had a similar video - he stands with his back to the basket, throws and hits.

Interview with Anna in Novogorsk:
translation:

How was your vacation?

After the end of all the ice shows, we had enough time to recover and relax. I used this time fully - I rested and also prepared for the exams. Then I came to Moscow and I had a lot of things to do. Every day was completely busy, which was unusual for me. I realized that it’s comfortable for me when every day goes according to the same schedule: I wake up in the morning, I train, then there is a break, training again - and here is the evening. That is, the whole day is busy, but at the same time for every day - a very specific schedule. And this time it was like this: one day I pass some kind of exam, on the second day I participate in some kind of event, on the third day I have a shooting - and for me this is some kind of new, unusual schedule. Maybe it was in a certain sense tiring, but also interesting. Every day there were some things to do, and finally, I was free and was able to get to training (laughs).

Did you go out on the ice at all during your vacation?

Of course, when I had at least half a day free, I came to Khrustalny and trained, worked in order to come here and not completely disappoint the coaches (laughs). I tried, let's say, to start work on restoring my shape on my own.

(question omitted, probably something about interaction with Alina Zagitova)

No, we don't coach each other, but we give each other friendly advice when one of us fails. We do not make any gross mistakes in jumps, we [discuss] how to tune in to the jump, which helps to put the maximum effort into the jump. Well, here we are approaching each other at the rink and consulting: “And this is how I do it! - And I'm like this. Perhaps this helps us. For example, when someone watches my skating, it helps me, I feel responsible for it. And so I go up to her and say: “Alina, please look - now I have to enter this jump.” She looks, and I'm doing better.

Did you manage to try something new during your vacation?

While I'm trying a little of everything ... I remembered that at the beginning of the season in an interview I said that I have a little dream - to see from the inside how everything happens in the theater. And so I was invited to the theater and my dream really came true. I visited the Bolshoi Theater, and they showed me its inner life, I saw how the artists prepare for performances, how they work in the dressing rooms, and then, of course, I watched the performance itself. Now, moreover, I was invited to watch The Master and Margarita, and this is very interesting for me. I also talked with the management [of the theatre], we discussed the various features of figure skating and ballet, what is similar with them and what is different. It was really interesting.

How is your new dog doing?

It gradually unfolds. At first it was just a darling-bun (laughs). And now, of course, already showing character. But I think that he and Sandy became great friends and they have a excellent company now, and I'm very cool with them, so I'm very happy.

How does he show his character?

Well, he's digging holes in ground. Immediately, when I turn away - he is already starting. As soon as I fill one hole, he digs another one somewhere behind. And when I turn to him, he runs back to me again and starts digging there. And he also guards me from time to time - he barks at everyone around (laughs).

You're on a big tour...

Yes, there will be 22 shows in one month. In each of them I will have two performances. It happened to me before when I skated at shows in the summer. Before my first junior season and also before my first senior season, I went to a show in Japan. And when I'm not in the most optimal shape - such shows help a lot to gather my strength as much as possible. At such moments, I understand that it’s impossible just, as in the training process, to train all the elements a little bit, you need to go on ice and immediately show everything, because I am responsible to the audience. So I think it will be a great experience for me. In addition, a lot of performances in a short time - so we'll see.

After all these shows, will you have time to prepare for the season?

Well, of course, before each show there will be mandatory training and program runs. At the end of the season, we also traveled to different cities for shows and it was a serious load. Such a load is different from the one we get in training, where we just constantly work out certain elements. That is, the show is a lot of holistic programs, and this is also a very useful activity.

I'm not saying that it's just hard work, it helps me get the right tone. In addition, I will be in Sochi, which means great weather, I can go somewhere for a walk. Moreover, each show is a performance with the audience. That is, in any case, no matter how tired I am - when at the end there is a final, when a huge hall, everyone supports me, applauds - it's very nice, it charges. It gives me energy and you can say that I'm looking forward to this moment. But at the same time, I know that I still need time to prepare.
