Just wondering as I love to chat about what I'm working on and also get new ideas too.

I crochet, cross stitch, knit and also do some fabric painting. I am also a member of Project Preemie and a Blanketeer for Project Linus. Project Preemie is a non profit volunteer organization that crochets, knits and sews blankets, layettes for our local Neo Natal Units and, sadly, burial gowns/buntings for the wee ones who don't make it. As for Project Linus, you can learn more at their website.

I'm just finishing a blanket and also a full term baby toque. Both crocheted. As I'm on dial up, I often work on hats while waiting for things to download. I have a brand new pattern book and once the toque's finished, I'll be starting on a baby sweater, booties and hat set. Crocheted as well.

I also have a knitted baby hat that's about a third done. I also have to knit the second in a pair of socks. I just find I prefer crochet to knitting, but I am very happy I finally did learn to knit.

As for cross stitching...I've got three projects I really need to finish. Two are pieces in a round robin I'm taking part in at one of the LOTR MB's belong to. Thankfully, everyone's been just as busy as I've been, so we'll *all* horribly behind w/this thing, but w/summer coming, we're hoping to get back on track w/it.

I also have the biggest piece I have ever atttempted that needs to be finished as well. I have one of the programs that can turn a picture into a cross stitch chart. This is a chart of Liv Tyler as Arwen from LOTR : The Return of the King. For those who know, it's from the scene where Arwen has her vision of Aragorn and Eldarion. It's a 12 page chart and is three pages high by four across. I have her about a third done, but I was very sick last summer and I just haven't had a chance to get back into the groove of things w/her. If you're interested in seeing the progress I've done on her, feel free to visit my Photobucket album I created for that very purpose.

I really do hope I get her finished sometime this year. :)

So...Anyone else?

I've also done some cross-stitch. My big unfinished project is "the Bride" which I just loved in high school. It was going to be for my best friend as a wedding gift. She's not married yet, but she's not getting this even if she does, because I've worked on it so long I, selfishly, want to reap the reward of seeing it in my house!

I have lots of projects planned, but not such great execution of them! I foolishly volunteered to make my mother a Thomas Kinkade for her next big-0 birthday, which is still several years away. I'll need all that time!

I have learned to knit. I have all the pieces of a baby blanket knitted up, but I need to join them. I've made a scarf, too.

My mother wanted a knitting machine (purchased at Hobby Lobby) for Christmas. So I purchased yarn to use it, too. However, I couldn't get it to do it properly. Any suggestions?

Re: the Arwen project. I'm not surprised that you wanted to cut out some of it to avoid stitching all that black! What are you doing the project on? It looked like quite a large piece. I would have been tempted to use black fabric, though I understand it is very difficult to stitch.

Arwen is on 12 count Aida cloth. It is quite the big piece, but was going along quite quickly. A friend of mine passed along a neat tip for working on such a big piece. As you do each row of each colour, take a pen and cross out that part on the chart. That way, you can see you are indeed making progress and it doesn't feel as overwhelming as looking at the entire thing.

Works like a charm!! :)

I've done quite a few crafts over the years. (and there were lots of years  )
Of course, I used to sew, now even my mending is piled up. I've done cross stitching but my eyes don't like to go back and forth that much so don't care to
do it now. I've knitted and hope to get back to it some day. I've embroideried, painted, grown flowers, (one of the favorites), made jewelry (hope to find time to continue that one, too), did some stained glass (my tremors may decide I can't do that any more, hope to find out). I am into trying to grow orchids. I usually buy one at the garden show in Wichita every year. Last year, I got one to actually bloom again and have a different one starting to bloom now. I run into trouble finding time to keep them watered. Have lost quite a few and they're not cheap. I joined the Garden Club last year and now I have to give a lesson on orchids a week from Monday. I have quite a few African Violets and sometimes one of those bloom. I thought when you got old, you had time to play. Guess I'm not that old yet. I really like to do crafts but have got so I prefer to do things that are more "one of a kind" than what anyone else can do. That's one reason I still love to make jewelry. I don't do the rock cutting, soldering or casting like my husband did. Took the lessons but hate the torch (and the mess of rock cutting:rofl: ) He said one time I could take up faceting since I was so picky and I said no way, I want to do something fun.

I love to crochet, but whenever I take out the yarn, my 2 cats immediately think I have brought out their favorite toy ever, so the sessions tend to be quite short and sweet:disapp:

Been there, done that, wish I was back there during those days still. As annoying as it can be, I miss having a fur ball thinking my craft basket was his toy box.

I've started working on a new baby set pattern. It's crochet and is called a waffle pattern. You use the Front Post and Back Post Double Crochet stitches to get that effect. Well...Actually, it's supposed to be the FP and BP Half Double Crochet stitches, but it calls for the C and D hooks to be used. I did try to do it w/the stitches as called for, but w/that small a size, I was having the worst time trying to go around the posts. So, I've changed it to the full DC stitch and *that* is proving to be much easier.

I'm going to make it as called for hook size for this time around, because it will work for a Preemie/Burial outfit, but next time I'll play around. I'm thinking F and G would work for a proper Full Term size. What do you guys think?

I used to do cross-stitch, and have several finished (as well as half-finished) projects. I got impatient with it and gave up. The last thing I was working on was of Winnie The Pooh lying flat on his back with Tigger on his tummy. It's cute, but I just can't bring myself to work on it for some reason.

I've gotten in to crocheting, but if there's a level before beginner, that's what I am. LOL I'm working on an afghan, and several (very talented, very experienced) crocheters have told me that it's quite ambitious, but I'm still frustrated with it. I'm hanging in there, though, and it's about 3/4 done.

Tigger, I am SO impressed w/ that Arwen piece, I can't even put it into words. It's beautiful so far, and I can't imagine how gorgeous it will be when it's done! (But you already know how in awe I am of your crafting abilities;) )

I also love to crochet, done cross stitch long time ago use to sew when my childern were small. Have quilt I started on 3 years have the blocks sewed together far as i got not real sure how to finish it.
It's almost time for the Quilters to come to town for the big Quilt show, Paducah has every year. Just one week nobody want to eat out or go shopping all the hotels are sold out . But there only here for a week and I think of it as when we all go to skating event and invade someone elses home town for a week.
I lived here 20 years and never been.

Hi Tigger, I have been wanting to answer for a while now. I love to craft and I make lots of my christmas presents every year. I sew, crochet, bead, have cross stitched some but what I am really into right now is prim crafting. It is a very unique technique used to make things look a hundred years old.

I am a knitter...I mostly do socks and mittens. Right now I've run out of sock wool (I brought it back from Europe and used it all up) so I'm working my way through the book A Gathering of Lace and knitting shawls. My mom is getting some of them. I hate making sleeves for some reason, and can almost never finish the second one, so she hasn't had much luck in asking for sweaters over the years.

When I was a kid, I tried crochet and cross-stitch and a few years ago my mom tried to teach me how to sew but I don't think my boyfriend ever had such an awful pair of boxer shorts, plus a sweater that would not fit over his head, so I never sewed again.

Does anyone here know how to bind books? I can't seem to find any practical how-to sites on the internet, and I would like to hand-bind journals for friends and so on.

Have you tried Googling it? I admit, book binding has always fascinated me too. I need a new craft like a hole in my head though.

Visited a Michael's store for the first time yesterday. Evil store. Evil, evil, evil store....;)

Yeah, maybe I am putting in the wrong terms for Google. I never get anything useful - mostly stuff about how medieval people made their books, with accompanying illuminations. All fine and beautiful, but not too practical for my purposes ;-)

During my master's degree we were told to read a book by someone called Szirmai (I think) - it was all about medieval book-making, so could have been useful, but I managed to get off without reading it, paleography and codices being the two things that could put me right to sleep. Unfortunately, the book is hugely expensive and not widely availble.

Michael's is great! I have never been to one here in Canada but when we lived in the US I would go crazy there.
