Mondor tights sizing?

I'm trying to order my first pairs of figure skating tights, with summer coming up, and I'm stressing so much about the sizing...especially because they seem to be non-returnable no matter where I look. The size chart using measurements for hips and waist have me clearly in an XL, but on the charts that use height and weight, I'm right between a M and L! I have no idea what size to get! I wear a 14 in jeans (though they're getting a bit big, so maybe a 12...) and usually a large in leggings and knit pants (occasionally XL). I'm also only 5'3" so I worry about a bigger size being too long... Can anyone help?

They're quite stretchy, but not baggy when first worn. I'd advise taking the middle of the road and ordering L. They'll adapt themselves to you, stretching if they need to or staying their original length if they don't need to stretch much. Try one pair in L, and then you'll know to go to M or XL if need be for other pairs. (You should have several pairs anyway, so they can alternate.) :)

I just took my first foray into buying Mondor tights and skating clothes in general, and I feel like everything I've bought fits shorter and smaller than I expected. I just got Size S overboot tights from Mondor, and it is a lot of effort to get them over the boots. I was somewhat terrified I'd tear them, but maybe they stretch? I'm 106 lbs and 5' - pretty squarely in the S.

I'm close to your size in both height and weight, but for skating and ballet clothes I ignore the charts and go up at least one size. Mondor tights in L would probably be too long for you, but I buy M and they're fine. I've also bought L when the shop was out of M, and although the waistband sits a bit high, the leg length is OK. I don't buy tights that completely cover the boot, because I have long legs for my height but small feet. I'd worry about the foot part of overboot L or even M tights being baggy, and catching a toe pick in the excess fabric. I still have old stirrup tights and unitards that work better if I want to cover the top of the boots.

Skating and dance clothes seem to operate on the same scale as any casual clothes you buy online made in Asia, where the listing always says to go up several sizes from your North American size. I've got casual clothes bought from Amazon or eBay that are labelled XXL and are the same size as a Canadian or US M. Try Mondor tights in M and see if they're easier to put on. The S ones you bought will loosen up eventually, after being tossed in the washer and dryer day after day, but they're really aimed at children or pre-teens with thin legs.
