Any Sasha updates?

This (post 799) isn't a real commercial, right? Just something a fan made for a contest on Sashafans, or somehting of the sort?

It says in the description poster made it for some contest, so no, not a real commercial!

I just love how some posters comment about Sasha's motives, why do you care so much???? It makes me laugh as to how immature the poster is when they ask if she wants a medal or the attention...........again, who cares or should I say, why do you care so much????

I think you've stumped them, Dee.

I think it's just an attempt to repeat ad nauseam so that this thread can rival the Plush and Zhang threads

Bad Dee, bad.....;) Such logical remarks could kill this thread

This thread must go on until the end - or should I say the "bitter end."

Will Sasha fail to skate at Natls and bring inexplicable joy to her critics?

Or will she show up and win Natls bringing joy to Speedy, NBC and fans of her exquisite skating?

Surely such melodrama is worth the 184 more posts needed to get Sahsa to 1000!

So what if it would only win her "bronze" behind the Plushy and Caroline topics at GS?

To paraphrase Sasha, winning isn't everything, it's about challenging yourself.

So let's keep this scintillating topic going.

BTW, any news about Sasha ?;)

I haven't commented that profusely about it, but my reasoning is simple: it tells me how seriously she's taking this Olympic season. Many people presume that if she simply shows up at Nationals, she's gonna get a ticket to the Olympics due to her fame and the possible glamour she brings the sport. I can't deny that, given the state of American figure skating and it's popularity within, it might be a good move for the USFSA to make. But that way she's treating this season so cavalierly, it's like she expects to make the Olympics - as if it's her birthright. Not showing up in either GP events, the steady stream of articles about her etc. Plus, there are many skaters who have been working so hard to reach this moment, to have it taken away by Cohen (though if they don't earn it, they don't earn it. The question is will she?)

So if comes down to motive. If she's coming back for a medal and a chance to compete with the best, than I'm concerned for her. She's spent a long time away from competition, the rules are tighter, and her tendonitis is making it difficult for her to train. So this season becomes a major disappointment for a very recognizable skater. And that sucks, no matter what you feel about her.

But if she's simply coming back for fame.... well, my perceptions change.

Good comments but I question the one about the other girls working so hard.
That remark seems to imply Sasha has not been working hard. Do you honestly think she enjoys the two hours of daily rehab she has undergone battling tendonitis? And do you or some of the others know how hard Sasha has been working?

Some said she fell at her last two exhibition skates which were back in the early Fall. I recall many skaters falling this season including Rachael, Alissa, Caroline, and Mirai. Not too mention Yuna, Mao, Miki and all of the others.

Skaters fall and get back up.

I certainly don't want Sasha gifted a spot on the Olympic team either, but if she earns it I don't see how she can be criticized for taking anything away from the other Ladies. Like you said, they have to earn it too.

ETA: Here is an article with some interesting remarks from John Nicks - and not all positive.

Off topic, but that shows how much Golden Skate has grown. I can remember back when we all had to work together to get a Michelle Kwan thread up to 200 posts. :)

What a difference.

Now Michelle can get 200 posts even when a topic originally had nothing to do with her ;)

"She's a very interesting part of ladies figure skating, and has been for many years," Nicks said. "And I think we need interesting people in the sport these days."

Am I the only one who find it hilarious he uses the word "interesting" rather than "talented" or "champion-material" or "technically sound" or any other words out there to describe her?

But she is though. Interesting, I mean. She's not like the other skaters. She looks different, she acts different, she skates different. She's very unusual. Her skating is fun to watch (although I saw her at a show and she was boring, still pretty skating though!). I just wish she'd give this jig up and let some other American have the joy of going. If there were 3 spots it would make a little more sense, but with only 2 if Sasha goes it spoils it for everyone else except one person, and there are already 4-6 real contenders competing for the 2 spots and no frontrunner. Plus with Yuna around Sasha will never win gold and she already has silver so what's the big deal? Silver is pretty damn good.

Was silver enough for Michelle? Besides that is not really the point.

Michelle never won Olympic Gold and was an amazing skater and still is remembered as one today. What is the point? Is Michelle planning a comeback too?

I just think it would be nice if some of the other US ladies got a chance to go to the Olympics, Sasha already went and did great and I'm not sure that her jumping in at the last minute is really fair to do.
