ETA: Here is some skating I love and even with a couple of mistakes it is easy enough to appreciate how great some of Sasha's qualities were.

Very lovely. But...if you want to see the difference between talent and mastery, click on to the very next performance in that competition.

Besides, putting on the team a pretty skater rather than a competitive one, two years in a row, will further undermine the morale of the US ladies.
Sasha easily has the better dress![]()
:agree:
Couldn't agree more, and if Rachael is silver medalist for a THIRD time behind someone who she clearly should have beat I think she'll be pissed.
The worst is that judges aren't even consistent about this whole pretty skater nonsense, I think Caroline is a very pretty skater but they don't seem to agree, and she even lands all her jumps most of the time. .

Yes, Michelle is done because she made an attempt at a comeback starting about a year and a half ago, and in time she realized that she could not be competitive in the current environment. And so she opted to continue her education instead of making another Olympic try.
Although Sasha didn't have the devastating injury Michelle had, and did not need surgery, she has not judiciously prepared for her comeback attempt. Delaying serious training until just 8 months before the Olympics was not a wise decision, and then committing to two GP events for which she couldn't possibly be ready further compromised her believability.
Yes, I still have hopes that Sasha can compete in this year's Nationals, but those hopes are becoming threadbare and forlorn.

She already has a silver, and to get gold she needs to as an injured 25 year old who hasn't competed in almost 4 years and never had the best jumps beat QUEEN YU NA KIM, the girl who scored 210 points with 5 triples in her freeskate at the very beginning of the season. Silly Sasha...
Sasha didn't do much 'selling' of her choreography at her last competition, Worlds 2006, as she stumbled her way through jumps in her FS. At this point, we don't know what Sasha is capable of when it comes to her jumps.
Aunt Joyce reports "Word from a source says that Sasha Cohen is not skating well. She is training but is most certainly not back to her top form." Who knows what that actually means.

And let's not forget Sasha has such superior positions and extensions and the abilty to sell a program. No doubt Yuna is superior technically and athletically - but Yuna will not be at US Natls.
True.
But even if Yuna COULD compete at US Nat, we'll be looking at only 2 spots b/c ... you know, she's going to be locked for Vancouver. So either way, we'll be having this discussion on whether or not Sasha can go the Vancouver and/or who's going to get the spots left.
(And of course figure skating would've been more popular in the States since Americans would have their own darling world medalist & record breaker.)
I'm still waiting for the ever evolving U.S. taste to evolve even the tiniest bit towards Ice Dancing.![]()
