Hey! Doesn't anyone else understand the "old bag" syndrome i'm talking about. Fumie is 27 and seems blah now, Sasha is 25 and I feel like if she gets sent to the Olympics unfairly she'll be the same way. I feel like she was at her prime at 21, and now it might be downhill, but the USFSA will just ignore it.
Probably Sasha should teach Rachael how to do a spiral. I think it would probably kill Rachael also.![]()
The Snark Goddess is Back!!!
Sasha will be selected if she doesn't make top two.
There's no way the USFSA will allow that to happen.
Most can relax. This news will send RD and Chuck into overdrive.![]()

Hersh has been a busy guy - geez, it makes me miss Jenny!
Go Sasha!

:agree:True, but they can make her place top 2 regardless of how she skates instead. I see this happening before they bump someone else to send her, the judges have a lot of wiggle room with the PCS scores.
I don't think that anyone will be upset if she shows up and competes. It would be a great sight to see and it would presumably force everyone to improve, albeit in the very short term, and skate better. Even if she competes, falls and does poorly, the attention she would garner would help other skaters get some attention themselves. I think people will only be upset if, after all of the hype of her competing at Nationals, she doesn't.
And like you, I'm hoping she does compete and that she, and everyone else, does well!
Sasha whyyy??? Don't get me wrong, good for her, but I was really hoping to see more than one US lady who has actually been on the competitive scene these past few years be on the Olympic team! If only we had 3 spots :frown2:
Oh well, she still might withdraw, or not do well enough to make it. I'm sure her PCS scores will be HUGE though. I hope they call her out on her flutz if she still has it, otherwise she'll get hammerd for it at the Olys.

Haha. I actually used to like Sasha quite a bit, but her time has passed. I'm also generally a bigger fan of the more athletic skaters (I'm a gymnast, like the girls who look and jump like athletes) like Kimmie, Miki, Yuna, and Joannie. Those are probably my top 4 favorites, but now that Kimmie is gone, I've become a Mirai fan. She's grown up into more of an athletic skater. I really like Akiko too :agree:
If we had 3 spots, I wouldn't be so upset, I just really want to see two of Rachael, Ashley, Alissa, Mirai, Caroline and possibly a SS like Christina or Angela compete at the Olympics. Plus I don't see why Sasha wants to embarrass herself as her chances of winning OGM are basically none, and even medaling are probably slim. Yuna, Mao, and Miki are phenoms. Joannie and Akiko are great athletes and competitors. Kostner is also capable of greatness. Sasha is probably looking at 6th place or lower if she makes the team.

John Nicks? I imagine they must have an interesting relationship.
Sasha will be selected if she doesn't make top two.
NBC needs her for the ratings, and NBC is as strong as USFS.
Reputation does count.
And the same is true for Alissa... last year, she won because her short program was better and that score balanced out her FS. Let it go already.
You know... I just saw these two posts and I'm sorry but this is just ridiculous... who are we, as fans, to make these sweeping comments that go beyond "I'm not a fan" into downright disrespect? I mean, are you seriously serious?
If the US Ladies want to keep her from Vancouver, outskate her. Its very simple. And the same is true for Alissa... last year, she won because her short program was better and that score balanced out her FS. Let it go already.
I don't remember bad judging last year, I remember craptastic skating from young ladies with everything to gain by winning. Let us hope they learned from the past, if not.... stay at home.
(And now we can read all about how the corrupt, back room deal makers are plotting as we speak to gift her a spot... just to upset the fans... )
No, i'm not seriously serious. I'm just frustrated that 1.) the US doesn't have 3 spots for the ladies this year and 2.) that a skater who hasn't competed in 4 years is allowed to waltz in and go to the Olympics if she does well enough at one competition, IMO it kind of undermines the hard work skaters like Rachael, Alissa, Mirai, Caroline, etc have put in these past 4 years and especially this season.
About judging last year at nats and at various competitions this year, it's not so much that the winners won, but more that the judging does not seem to be consistent across all skaters. If jumps are really not very important anymore, then I wonder why the ladies even do them. What's the point of doing 6 or 7 triples if someone with 3 is going to beat you anyways? That's all i'm saying. I feel so bad for Akiko, it seems like whatever she does, it's not enough. The same goes for Rachael at nats...

You know, I've kinda thought about this and Nats will tell the story. Cohen hasn't competed in 4 years and her first competition is what's practically the Oly trials. Yikes. Major pressure on her- but perhaps it would lift some of the burden off of the other skaters and then they can skate their best and potentially beat her. My concern is that they'll inflate Cohen's scores enough for her to hang on and eke her way onto the team. If she wins clearly by outskating the others, I'll accept it, but if something happens like Czisny last year (or worse), you bet there will be questions asked by many, including myself. She needs to EARN that spot, not have it given to her. THAT's the whole point. If USFS treated everyone fairly I could get more excited about her appearance all but we all know they don't.
^^ nice post, well said :agree: . I have a bit of a temper and tend to get heated about these kinds of things. And I do feel bad for Yukari, but I like Akiko better and with her whole anorexia battle I feel her story and success are really compelling.
The whole Sasha situation I can understand, I just imagine the other ladies are annoyed about it. I guess that's just the name of the game though.
As much as I don't agree with it, PCS is half of the total score, so I guess the winning/medaling/beating people with more jumps with 3 triples is technically justified. Sometimes it seems rediculous, but I have only seen a few of these skaters live so I imagine some must be stunning live even if they don't land lots of jumps.
