I am really looking forward to seeing her skate in the GP. Her SP at nationals was phenomenal!! I think had she not been sick before/during nationals (IIRC?) she would have done better in the FS and finished higher overall. Like Mrs.P said, it's great that she's focused on her singles career.

Just to let you know that I have have finally updated the Original Post.

I have to admit, I kept putting off updating this thread because I hadn't a clue how I was going to lay it out!

After a lot of thought, I decided that he best way would be to do two separate Fan Fests within the one post – one for her Singles career, and one for her Pairs career.

Unfortunately, there aren't as many videos of Ashley out there as I was expecting. And although I don't know for sure, I have a feeling that there are a lot of competition results missing from my tables. Like, it was only because I found videos from it that I knew she was competing in the Philadelphia Summer International a couple of weeks ago.

So, I would really appreciate it if you would let me know if any other competitions are missing from my tables.

I have still to do the articles. And it won't be until I see what it there that I will be able to decide what approach to take with them. But, at the moment, I suspect that the best way will be to not separate them out into Singles and Pairs.

But in the meantime, I hope you like what I have done so far.

I had forgotten all about Darlene's name being incomplete.

Yeah, it was me that put in the "XXXX". I had been searching and searching for Canadian ice dancers with the name "Darlene", but could not find any trace of her.

In this Golden Skate article, I had read that she had won a bronze medal at Canadian Nationals. So I went looking through podium tables, and could not find her. But now, thanks to you, I know why - it was Junior Nationals she had won the medal at, and the tables I was looking at were for Senior Nationals!

In the end, I gave up and left it as an "XXXX" in the hope that somebody would be able to fill it in. And now you have!

And what a great photo there is of Peter and Darlene accompanying the announcement of their engagement. They were such a beautiful couple! I had seen a video of Peter skating at the 1980 Olympics with his sister, but now that I've seen this photo, the VHS picture didn't do him justice!

I have just heard Ashley is going to skate for Australia. Why has she decided to do this? Is she not confident in her ability to qualify to skate for USA and has to use her dual citizenship and go to a smaller skating nation as a backdoor to ISU championship events and possibly Olympics?

Ashley is the daughter of Darlene Cain.
I am not merely making an assumption that Ashley's mother uses her married name.
She is "Darlene Cain" on the list of coaches at her skating club. She is "Darlene Cain" on LinkedIn. Etc.

And some more nitpicking on my part.

If you read the whole sentence, it is referring to Ashley's parents in terms of their competitive skating careers. I could have described them as coaches, and Peter as a Technical Specialist for the ISU. But, I am trying to emphasise that Ashley has a competitive skating pedigree.

And when Darlene was skating competitively, she was using her maiden name.

It's like Tanith Belbin. As you made a big deal of pointing out at the time, she now uses her married name and even changed her Twitter address to reflect this. BUT, whenever anybody is talking about her competitive career, they refer to her by her maiden name. You never hear people talking about "White / Agosto".

Similarly, when Nicky Slater was talking about his parents winning silver at the first Ice Dance World Championships, he referred to them as "Joan Dewhirst / John Slater". Like Ashley's mother, Nicky's mother uses her married name when she is coaching. But, she still gets referred to by her maiden name when her competitive career is being talked about.

So, I stand by my decision to refer to Darlene by her maiden name in the OP. Because I was talking about her competitive career, and that is what she was known as at the time.

And please do not turn this into a big issue. At the end of the day, this thread is not about Peter and Darlene. It is about their daughter.

Because I was the one who discovered the name of "Darlene Wendt" for you, I did and do feel entitled to make my opinion known.
You of course are free to disagree with my opinion about the OP, but it was unfair for you to respond to me as if I were meddling in something that is none of my beeswax.

If Tanith and Charlie had a child named Marina , what I would say is something like: "Marina is the daughter of Charlie White and the former Tanith Belbin, now known as Tanith White."

It was obvious to me all along that you were/are pointing out that Ashley's parents both were competitive skaters.
For me, that is not a good reason to not include Darlene's married name as well as her maiden name.

As I believe you know:
Others on GS (not you) had made a "big deal" out of predicting that Tanith would not change her name.
So when she made clear within a few weeks of her marriage that she did change her name, I made a "big deal" of pointing it out.

Golden, there is no need to take this personally. It is just a difference in opinion.

And I can assure you that am still extremely grateful to you for finding Darlene's maiden name. Apart from anything else, it means that those of us that are interested can look up her and Wayne Hussey. OK, so there may not be any videos, but there are stories and results.

I will be updating the Fan Fests I run during the summer break (let's face it, Euro 2016 and the Summer Olympics will be taking over the TV, and I have no interest in them!) So, when I come to update this thread, I will expand the Summary section (which I always intended to do anyway), and add in something that makes it obvious that Darlene now uses her married name (probably by mentioning the coaching that she and Peter do).

I don't like being on bad terms with anybody, so this is my attempt to make the peace.

Looks like the Pairs OP of this thread will be getting some action this season.

As revealed by StitchMonkey in the Splits / Partner Changes thread, Ashley has announced that she is returning to Pairs for this season, and will be partnering Timothy LeDuc (ISU Bio with Cassie Andrews; ISU Bio with DeeDee Leng).

"I am beyond excited to announce that as of today my pair career will be starting again! I can't wait to start this journey with my incredible partner Timothy LeDuc! These videos are after one day skating together. We can't wait to start training and competing for this season! We hope that you will all support us and enjoy our journey as much as we will! @usfigureskating"

Golden has also provided some extra information in her reply to StitchMonkey's post:

Cain/LeDuc will be skating for the US, lest anyone wonder. (Anyone who has not clicked on Stitch's link and who was curious about the recent rumor re Ashley, which now has proved to be false.)

Ashley said that she will continue to compete in singles skating as well.

On the one hand, I am absolutely delighted that Ashley is going back to Pairs. I really like her as a singles skater (and so am relieved that she is going to continue with that as well), but there is no denying that most of her success has come in Pairs.

But at the same time, I am kinda disappointed that she is not using her Australian card. Because all she is doing is moving out of one crowded competitive field and into another.

But hey! The main thing is that we now have 2 good Pairs skaters back in the mix. And hopefully they will do well enough for us to see them regularly on the international stage.
