Ashley Wagner

Could we all agree to send positive thoughts toward Ashley's direction in these weeks before Worlds?

I just re-read the Rolling Stone article about her from April 2015. It's worth re-reading!!:rock: (tulosai posted a link to it in the OP). "I'm constantly having people tell me that I can't, that I'm not good enough, that I'm too old, that I'm not graceful enough. I've always just heard it and I've always just used that as fuel. There's nothing that I love doing more than proving people wrong."

Personally, I like Patrick Chan's idea: "I kept focusing on what makes me successful." Any thoughts?

That's the way to go and one of the reasons I root for Ashley :)

:thumbsup:

The biggest reasons I root for Ashley are:

1. She inhabits her music so powerfully and interprets the styles beautifully;
2. She gives 110% of herself in any performance and never gives up on her program. Others give up when jumps aren't perfect.
3. She desires to give something to the audience, an experience of beauty, fun, and emotional resonance
4. Her love of figure skating comes through: the jumps, the technical prowess, the artistry and expression. And finally ...

5. She's so inspiring. Very few women improve technically in their twenties in this sport. She's an inspiration to anyone who's ever thought they were too old or too tired or too "done" or too whatever, to keep going after their dreams.

Hi guys, I've been thinking about a Sheherazade Free Program for her. She is the perfect Delilah, Satine and Black Swan so why not?

I think that would be absolutely fantastic.. a little different then what she usually likes to do, but still right up her alley.

I would also love to see more of a "serious" SP from her. She can play any part of any character.. she always goes for something fierce and sassy. I would love to see her try something tear-jerking. We know she can emote any emotion, and I would love for her to spread her wings a little.

P.S. this was my 100th post! :yahoo:

uhm, please no^^ not another warhorse :noshake: I don't doubt that Ashley can pull off a very convincing Sheherazade, but I want a more modern character for her programms, like in Moulin Rouge. And definetly lyrics for Ash. No grand orchestra or classic ballet/ opera piece. Something that bring out her fire, is well known, but not too well known :laugh:

And that, my friends, is why I love her so much. True words.

I'm 19 and a competitive figure skater. When people are 19, where are they? Senior, with triples.
Me? I'm struggling to keep all of my doubles consistent and haven't even started on 2A yet. Long story short, I had to stop skating for 3 years (age 13-16). Ashley is an inspiration to me because at 19, everyone (except my coach and the skaters close to me) say I'm "too old" and should "just give up because you're obviously not gonna get anywhere", and every time I watch Ashley add more technical difficulty and learn more things, I know that, at 19, I can DEFINITELY get through to triples.

Ok sorry life story. So dramatic :drama:
A lot of people just don't understand why I love her so much.

You are very young! Don't listen to others! I hope you get everything you want from skating, but the tenacity you are showing now will stand you in good stead throughout your life.

The fact is that the fierce and sassy image that Ashley likes to project, which feels a little forced to me, would hold up better if she was an international star. Even a bronze or two at Worlds won't make her that. And even 2 clean programs might not get her a bronze, the competition being what it is. For Ashley it's going to be a long process of aligning what she thought was going to happen with what actually has. Will she be happy enough, when all is said and done, to know that she was sometimes spectacular, and that she reigned over the US ladies for quite a while? Many other skaters would be thrilled if that were their legacy. But I think Ashley is going to remain somewhat uneasy and defensive until she finds what she wants to do for the rest of her life.

It seems Alissa Fedichkina is big fan of Ashley, loves how feminine but at the same time how fierce Ashley's skating is. She likes her programs a lot and jumps too. She is very happy that at GPF got the chance to talk a bit with her.

I really like watching Alisa, her skating skills and musicality are especially impressive as for 13-year-old girl. She's surely inspired by her - I see common points between those two :)

This is so cute! I imagine how great it must have been for Alisa to meet one of the skaters she looks up to. Adding that Ashley is such an adorable person it must have been a super moment :love:

Newly brunette Ashley and Adam participated in the What's Up World team Google hangout last night in case you missed it. Chock and Bates were also there.

Some cute interaction and banter amongst the four of them and you can clearly see the friendship between A/A since they were together for the interview.

OMG they are soo cute! Madi evan and adram too!:love: the questions really cracked me up:laugh2::rofl: and they come off as soooo nice and funny people to be around:luv17:

I so agree .... :luv17:Ashley's answer to the last question was just awesome.:laugh: I loved how genuine Adam's laughter was, when she gave that answer. And how he reached out and grabbed her wrist, very supportive. I think besides showing her great, spontaneous sense of humor, her answer shows such an equilibrium and comfort about herself and who she is. So enviable.

Ashley is very genuine, what you see is what you get and she will not change or put on airs for anybody. Her friendship with Adam is so fun, I am happy they have each other.
I hope both of them skate clean and make themselves proud at worlds. I don't care where they place, I just want them to do well.

Ashley's Worlds teleconference is posted on Ice Network. I think it's been up for a few days.

I found her answers interesting so it's worth a listen. She says she's a much stronger skater now that she and Raf are beginning to "get" each other. Sounds like she's in a good place for Worlds so let's keep our fingers crossed that she puts out 2 clean performances next week!

And "go" go go! :cheer::hap93:

Ashley's Worlds teleconference is posted

And yes, as usual she gave insightful answers to the questions. Especially noteworthy: her answer to question @ meldonium abuse.

But on to the really important stuff :laugh:.....

She's going to wear Marissa's dress:love: again for :luv17:Hip Hip Chin Chin!:yahoo:
