Is they are married and live in US, don´t think is the same law in every country in the world.
Watch the Sopranos episode "too much television". It doesn't really work that way in the US either.....

One question here:
Did she have the spousal privilege with her ex? It is odd, couples can't testify again each other in criminal cases.

I agree. So, it is good to hear that the Federation is backing her.
Given that they were together for about five years which corresponded to a large portion of her best years competitively, I think that would be an excessive punishment. Especially since (as you note) she competed clean and her results were all legit. For me, a more appropriate punishment would be to give Carolina a massive fine for not reporting Alex's doping. Say, the equivalent to what she had earned in prizemoney during her relationship with Alex.

I mean, do the math - a world title, European titles, world medals, European medals, as well as GP wins and medals add up to a lot of money, and it's money she has earned. I don't think bankrupting her is the way to go.

Sadly she doesn't deserve this. Seriously she didn't dope. This is the rare occurrence in the last ten years where American press has covered figure skating, even in a tiny part, outside of the Olympic news reporting cycle. Too bad it's on something like this.![]()

I would be curious to know the ins and outs of the legal situation. This is the IOC's doping people who want to levy these penalties, right? Has the ISU weighed in? I suppose the ISU automatically has to go along with whatever the IOC says? If the IOC says Carolina can't compete on the Grand Prix next year, can the ISU say, yes she can -- the Grand Prix of figure skating has nothing to do with the Olympics and is outside the jurisdiction of the IOC.
If the IOC bans Carolina from competing for four years, thus ending her career, then proposes to fine her, why would she agree to pay a fine at all?
The Italian National Olympic Committee is going after Kostner, AFAIK. (CONI = Comitato Olimpico Nazionale Italiano.)
Not the IOC.
Prosecutor's Office refers Carolina Kostner, demands 4 years and 3 months disqualification

So that she can do shows, coach, etc after the ban ends.
Can't a show hire whoever they want? Surely the Italian Olympic Committee cannot dictate to sponsors and promoters of entertainments? Even Tonya Harding was in a profession competition after she was banned for life by the USFSA. (She got second -- Surya Bonaly won).
What if I made a deal with Carolina to give my kid skating lessons. Would that mean that my child could never compete in a ISU event?
From what i have read, doping isn't effective for figure skaters, that's why they don't (have a reason to) do it.
There's a reason, we never heard of East German figure skaters doping...
The only doping case i'm familiar with is that of Yuri Larionov who took some headache medicine and tested positive for steroid.
