Ban on Carolina Kostner Over

This news is shocking and really sad to hear, but as far as I know Carolina was planning to retire anyway, so this ban should not make a big difference, ofcourse now it's not just her choice but something she will be forced to do. but honestly I didn't expect carolina to continue, she simply didn't give the impression that she wanted to skate competitively

^Still no news, as far as I can know.

In research there is lots of news articles in italian. In this one it seem like there is a lot of evidence that Carolina has lie in other things (google translater, is some italian speaker could reviese the article will be nice)

Edit.

This article from Corriera della Sera saids that the punishement will be know by January 16th

A summary of the article:

Contradictions between Kostner's and Schwazer's versions:

About the doping test in Oberstdorf, Kostner said it was at 7 am, Schwazer said it was at 9 am (the DCO agrees with Schwazer);

Kostner says she wanted Schwazer to talk to the DCO on the phone, Schwazer says he insisted:

She says she couldn't see the DCO's car from her window, he says he did.

Kostner says Schwazer put “medicines” in her fridge in February 2012, he says it was not before July;

WADA tested Schwazer earlier in July, but Kostner says she doesn't know about it.

Schwazer said that, in 2011, some Russian racewalkers advised him to dope, he told his then-coach, Didoni, a FIDAL doctor, and Carolina and she recommended him NOT to do it. She saw him, though, sleeping in an altitude tent.

About the meeting with Dr Ferrari, in 2010, Kostner claims that she didn't know he was a doctor, all the less a doping expert, and that she didn't perceive nothing strange in that meeting.
Attorney general doesn't believe she was so naive. Therefore, she is guilty by omission, since she should have reported Schwazer.

From another source I read, a retroactive ban seems unlikely, because Kostner was never tested positive to doping. Let's wait for January 16th.

So basically it comes down to some discrepancies between the two versions, many of which could be due to memory becoming less accurate over time (there's lot's of research on memory distortions).

Unless you're CONI, in which case it's clear that Schwazer is telling the truth and Kostner lied about everything, and is "guilty by omission" because you decided so. Proof optional. Got it. That makes perfect sense

If I were Kostner, I'd announce my retirement and make a killing doing shows.

It's not so simple. I heard a speculation that a ban may even prevent her from doing ISU sanctioned (most of the shows, nowadays) ice shows, so I am worried for her.

... and would the show organizers want to distance themselves from her, regardless whether the shows are ISU sanctioned or not. Depends how the media will be painting her if a negative decision is made.

If CONI and the ISU try to do that, I hope she sues and wins. It's one thing to ban an athlete from competing, another to mess with their ability to make a living via other means. I'm pretty sure that there's legal precedent in Europe that doping penalties cannot infringe on certain economic activities.

At the moment Kostner is scheduled to perform in Stephane Lambiel's show Ice Legends, with a fabulous cast of skaters (almost all of them retired from competition).

if they ban kostner and give her severe punishment more than her douche bf then she should take her middle finger and wave to their faces and tell them see you in court..

if she did lie then you can punish her all you want but to give her harsher punishment is illogical and just plain ridiculous.. her skating has nothing to do with this case!

Believe me in no way I am a cycling fan, but even I know who Ferrari is, he is connected with dopping in soccer, tennis, cycling, people believe that even Spanish National Soccer team was involve with him during Germany Worlds Cup (so living in Germany is not excuse)... is just you need to believe that Carolina lived under a rock with out access to Internet or newspaper not to know... and even so that your boyfriend doesn´t tell you the name of the doctor that´s is citing across you and you didn´t ask... is event like insulting Carolina´s intelligence... does people believe she is stupid? (don´t know how else put it)

Back in 2012 he was all over the news, and Carolina never saw it? I live in the other side of the world, in a third world country and I know about this and Carolina didn´t?

I don´t think that Carolina deserves 4 1/2 years, but to get to the point where people believe she is not at fault, is just too much.

The BF had every motivation in the world to hide the doctor's identity from her. Why is it so hard to believe he lied to her about who it was and why he was seeing the guy? I think the entire sequence of events makes it pretty clear that the former BF is not the patron saint of integrity.

Thank you.

Just wanted to ad that in the Corrieri article it saids that Carolina did knew that Ferrari was Schwazer´s doctor since 2009.
Schwazer said that Carolina knew about Ferrari involvement with dopping in 2011, but even so she didn´t ask him to stop seeing him (This is the worst her ex bf has looked to me in this mess), or denounce him.
It seem that Carolina´s failure to report a Schwazer is being aggravated by the fact that she is part of Polizia penitenziaria, according to the same article.

Ferrari testimony is that Carolina knew who he was. So supporting Schwazer testimony that she knew who Ferrari was.

Don´t shoot the messanger, I do believe that Carolina should get a punishment, but not longer that the one of Schwazer is getting.

Imo, it sounds like Schwazer is doing everything he can to paint Carolina in a negative light and offer her as some kind of "partner in crime" so that he gets a light sentence.

Whether Carolina knew this or that, we can't really judge. But even if she knew everything and was actively covering up for him every step of the way... he should still get the longer ban.

This is starting to make me very angry. If the genders were reversed, and the man was a prominent athlete in a popular sport and the female less so, he would not in a million years be banned or have sponsors distance themselves. Could you imagine Tiger Woods being banned and losing sponsors for something involving Lindsay Vonn?

His sentence has already be asigned, so don´t think he has an interest in scre**** Carolina. His ban is of 3 1/2 years. It won´t be changed.

And Ferrari has already a lifetime ban, so not interest either...

Actually, he's asking for plea bargaining (not for his doping sentence, but for his sports fraud allegation), he hopes for a 8-month sentence in order to compete in Rio 2016.

The dirty peasant!!! *

No, sorry. Any peasants there have ever been would be offended to be compared to him!

If he is lying about Caro to get himself a lighter sentence, it just shows you how much he loved her! :disapp:

She's definitely better off rid of him!

(* I don't curse, so "peasant" is the word I tend to use in place of stronger words)
