I think it interesting that Yukari happened to choose the same music with her fellow competitors two years in row (last year: she got the same SP music with Mao's LP).

But perhaps it depends. When I watched Annette DYTRT using the Swan from the beginning to the end, I got bored although I love this music so much. Johnny did that in his Swan SP, too. But it was just SP.
Annette repeated the same choreo over and again, which may be another factor. Beautiful music, beautiful choreo, beautiful costume, and beautiful young lady. But a bit too much.

I wonder if outperforming teammates is Yukari's agenda. If it is, she certainly succeeded this time.
Caroline's SP last season was a departure from the usual classic style she's been using since she was an intermediate (meditation-senior,junior,turandot-novice,o mio-junior

Yeah, that was one SP out of how many years of skating? And now she's back to using two over-done, boring-as-heck ballet pieces.

Did anyone notice how parts of Yukari's Giselle was much like Katia Gordeeva's pro solo version of Giselle? Especially the costume and the part in the middle where she does the ballerina toe thingy???
BTW --- I loved Katia's Giselle!! She was so graceful and beautiful in that program!

I don't remember Katia's program. BUt I loooooooooooooove Yukari's costume! It is very much like the costume from the ballet.
I thought that Miki's program was choreographically almost empty and used the music as more like a background. Somehow, it's kind of interesting that Yukari's program makes me compare it with ballet performances and then become picky about her imitation of ballet steps, leg and arm positions, ordering of music, and all that. In contrast, Miki's doesn't. I don't quite get any of the themes from the original ballet in Miki's program and I simply could see it just as one of those FS programs that use beautiful classical music. This might be actually a good thing because neither Miki nor Yukari has training in ballet and I don't think it a good strategy to try to imitate ballet.
That said, it would be nice if Morosov could put some more in-between's. Morosov has made not only lots of masterpieces, but also lots empty boxes. Right now, this program presents one element after another and, frankly speaking, it is quite boring to watch. Even if not going to be a masterpiece, I hope that he could put at least a bit more transitions and choreos to make it more interesting.

Bennett, did you miss the head-holding and other gestures of madness? And there was one moment where Miki opened her mouth wide as if to show terror (which made me laugh instead). They were definitely shooting for a rendition of Giselle, but they tried half-heartedly. I wonder what went wrong and whether it was in the planning or execution.
I was hoping Miki would do more of the second-act Giselle where it is just romantic posturing and demonic technique. That would suit your idea of a more abstract program with classical music. Plus, it would be very different from Yukari's program. But they focused on act 1.

Some ppl seem to interpret that this story has a happy ending after something sad, which would have been actually very nice!

I suppose that Act II would be pretty challenging for many dancers to perform. Expressions of Wily are in a way lifeless and the spirit of Giselle floats in the air without any weight. But she has something very profound and spiritual inside. Symbolically, she also seems very sensual as her spirit dances with her lover. I love all the subtle nuances in this part. I may want to watch this scene performed by Ice Dancers because I'd love to see the loving, soulful moments of two lovers, whereas Act I can go only with Giselle's own charms (Indeed, her lover is just being bad there).

I agree. Doing the Mad Scene from Act 1 put me right off Miki. There was no reason for it in the program as there is in the entire ballet. It's like suddenly committing hari kari in Madama Butterfly without any reference as to why she would do that. Silly.
Yukari was smarter. Just a smattering of a happy Giselle before it all goes to pieces.
