Best/worst matched pairs and dance teams

best matches for pairs
Gordeeva and Grinkov, Sale and Pelletier...

totally agree. Shen and Zhao are really the best. They relate to eachother, they are the perfect height for eachother.

The russian pair team... why can't i think of their names.. youknow, he is really tall and she is tiny. They are older, retiring after this year i think, he always gets tired.. not a got match. they don't look right together.

They are Pet & Tik, whom I mentioned were one of the worst mismatches in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, they are super nice!! I like their personalities a lot, and their basic skating skills are excellent.

Apparently 'roller girl' thought they were the best match.  Talking about subjectivity in figure skating.

It's funny that so many people have mentioned Gordeeva and Grinkov and being perfectly matched, because I remember their receiving criticism when they first emerged on the world scene for being so physically mismatched-- his being so big and her small. Now that seems to be a desirable quality (the Zhangs, anyone?)

Yes, but then she grew, and when she was an adult, the pair looked perfectly matched.

Skaters know this too, I'm sure that more than one team has been told by someone (coach, judge, whoever) that some change in appearance wouldn't be a bad thing. I mean, someone must have been told Anissina to dye her hair. Did it affect their marks? You decide. :)

Wasn't Belbin told by her coach to dye her hair blonde during the season? I seem to remember that her hair is really brunette. In an interview in either Blades or IFS, she commented that it was weird being told by her coach to change her personal appearance like that.

The best for me were Anissina Peizerat - the diva and prince...now are Tanith and Ben...

the worst Hoffman/Elek

I can't think of the exact name of the pairs team, but they were Canadian and girl was from Japan. There was such a large height difference between the two that it looked awkward. Plus, the poor girl did not want to lose her Japanese citizenship so she refused to become a Canadian citizen to qualify at the Olympics. It seemed like they were awkwardly paired on and off the ice.

Wakamatsu and Fecteau

Going by what is aesthetically important/pleasing to me....the way teams relate to each other, most of these I also find their physical appearance aesthetically pleasing as well:

Best:
Gordeeva/Grinkov
Sale/Pelletier
Dubreil/Lauzon
Shen/Zhao
Underhill/Martini
Roca/Sur
Rahkamo/Kokko
Punsalan/Swallow
Ina/Zimmerman

Worst:
Petrova/Tikhinov

IMO, body size being too close in proportion causing both an aesthetically non-pleasing look to my eye and also seemingly causing difficulty with throws and lifts:
Hartsell/Hartsell--I liked their effort and their personalities however
Denkova and Staviyski--it's strictly their body proportions being so similar that is not-so pleasing, I love their skating otherwise

These are the only ones coming to mind at the moment.
