British National Championships, 01-04 December 2022

Ah, I see there have been 2 withdrawals from Junior Ladies since the SP.

I wonder if the extra late start was because organisers decided to extend the break in between the Advanced Novices and Juniors as a result.

I would understand doing that if we had been running to schedule. But we weren't. This could have been an opportunity to claw back some of the time lost earlier.

But, I don't know what's happening. They might well have been using the time to work at solving some problems. Which would be a good thing.

Hello. I'm hoping one of you might know the answer...

If I buy a streaming pass, can I watch on catch up or is it only live? I'm sad it's no longer on the BBC online.

Hello. I'm hoping one of you might know the answer...

First of all, welcome to the forum. I hope you enjoy your time here.

If I buy a streaming pass, can I watch on catch up or is it only live?

I haven't bought a pass, but they do seem to be archiving the streams.

Go to this page:

https://tv.iceskating.org.uk/events/

And then click on the "Past Events" tab.

It currently contains archived streams for:

  • this morning's Advanced Novice Free Skates
  • yesterday afternoon's Junior Short Programmes
  • all the streams for the Britannia Cup
  • all the streams for last year's Nationals

Unfortunately, it does not contain an archived stream for yesterday morning's Advanced Novice Short Programmes.

I'm sad it's no longer on the BBC online.

So am I. So am I. 😞

Hope this helps

Welcome! And yes, you can watch yesterday's stream. There are videos from the Britannia cup still on there - you'd have to pay for them separately, but I'm assuming that means they will be available for a while afterwards.

I'm still hoping yesterday's morning session will appear at some point and isn't lost forever.

Thanks CaroLiza-fan. I will have a play with it tomorrow. I've been a lurker on here for a while and registered because I knew this was the place to ask. I suspect I'd be waiting for ever if I tried emailing the BIStv thing.

Actually I used their little 'chat with us' button yesterday to ask about the missing morning groups and they did answer. I am not sure they had realised it wasn't there til I asked :/

It's so nice that there are plenty of juniors competing, including two full groups of jr men. Feels like a real competition.

I was pleased to see we have multiple pairs in both Junior and Advanced Novice. I know the whole sport is woefully underfunded and undersupported here, but Pairs really do seem to be the poor cousin.

The stream has been rather skippy in places today which is annoying. I hope they get it fixed.

It's the weekend, which means the start of the Pairs, Ice Dance and Senior Singles competitions. First up, it's the Advanced Novice and Junior Pairs competitions. Three entries at each level (although, I see that the final partnership in the Juniors has withdrawn, so it is down to 2 partnerships).

There is due to be a 10 minute break between them, but I am doing a combined reminder post just in case anything happens.

Pairs is actually completely terrifying so it's not surprising fewer people stick with it. I'm still scarred from my childhood/teenage experience of it!

I was delighted too. It's a good sign for the future.

I was kinda surprised that they didn't have the three Pairs competitions back-to-back, instead of having them sandwiching the Senior Ladies FS. It would have been nice for the audience to see the progression through the levels.

But, I guess that some of the Senior skaters are maybe coaching some of the younger skaters, so there needed to be a break in between the competitions so that they could support their students, and then get ready for their own skate.

I originally posted this half an hour before it was supposed to start, because the livescoring page sprung into life and I guessed they were starting early.

But they didn't.

We take a temporary break from the Pairs to have our filling in the sandwich - the girls.

I was going to say a "short break", but it isn't. There are 10 girls coming up.

I hope you are talking in the metaphorical sense, and and not the physical sense.

And on that note, I hope your hand is getting along well.

After our excursion into Singles skating, we now return to the Pairs. And I suppose you could also say that this is the meat in a Senior Singles sandwich, as the boys follow.

Happy to see the stream is working at the moment, it was horrendously skippy for me at the start.

And pairs is terrifying enough to watch I am impressed by anyone that has ever tried it

Your Saturday night starts right here! Saturday night is Ice Dance night! And we start with the Pattern Dances. Intermediate Novices and Advanced Novices alternating for both Pattern Dances.

As there is only 1 partnership entered at each level, and as I will be leaving the computer for food during this, I will do one post for all the Pattern Dances.

Correction - the Intermediate Novice partnership has withdrawn. But, since I don't know what way they will work it, I will just keep the reminder post as originally laid out.
