WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

15 year old Cynthia Phaneuf just won her first Canadian championship!!!!!!

1. Cynthia Phaneuf
2. Joannie Rochette
3. Jennifer Robinson
4. Annie Bellemarre
5. Mira Leung
6. Leslie Hawker

That was amazing! Joannie had a fantastic skate tonight, with 1st place ordinals from the majority of the judges, however, her disappointing skate last night cost her the title. Cynthia Phaneuf, out of virtually nowhere, came out, had the skate of her life, and by the grace of 2 great performances, upsets the apple cart. She was not counted into the mix this year, because until recently did not have a triple flip or triple lutz!!!! Jennifer obviously felt the pressure, and wasn't able to deliver. 2footed both lutzes and her triple toe, unfortunately. You could see the disappointment, but always the picture of grace, she did give credit where it was due.

Congratulations Cynthia!

I really liked her skating, but no way should have her pres scores been that high! She got more 5.8s than Joannie! She skated before Joannie and the first thing I thought after seeing her pres marks was Man they are waaay too high. Joannie is a much more mature skater and her moves were all finished, refined, and very musical. Cynthia was graceful and had very nice choreo indeed, but she still looked juniorish compared to Joannie and Robinson, and even Annie. She was not as smooth or polished as Joannie. And I think Joannie's basic skating should have scored her relatively much higher. The other women just don't come close to her in that department. I don't know, maybe the judgese were just too excited by the performance. Canadians just haven't had a final flight in womens like this in a long time.

I was in the building and she WAS polished and refind and totally deserved the marks, she had 2 great perfomances and that is what wins the gold.

Well, Joannie DID win the FS don't forget, it's just that being in 5th place after the SP, she couldn't win the whole thing after Cynthia did well enough to be 2nd. (Jennifer was 4th in the FS btw, while Annie was 3rd).

And did I say she didn't deserve to win the gold? (although that could be argued since Bellmare deserved to place 2nd in the free IMO but I won't go there yet) My point was Joannie should have received higher marks than Cynthia did, especially in presentation, not the other way around.

You care to elaborate?
