Did a Canadian lady just beat a Russian wunderkind? Is it bad that my first instinct was to look out the window to see if there were any flying pigs? Maybe there's hope yet... I'm also encouraged by the more challenging programs that the Canadian skaters on the JGP are trying - programs that include triple lutz and triple flip.

It's too dark here to see any regardless.

Not where I am, it is all sunny and bright here LOL
Yes, she wasn't clean by any means in her LP, but since her Canadian nationals I can see she got more stuff in her arsenal: a 2A/3T combo, she goes after two 3 flips and she is landing them, and yes that level 4 step sequence is really something, usually a tough task for any ladies.

Well solid start for Osmond. You can see the progression from last year's Nationals which is a positive. I like her coach Ravi Walia who has competed in the past and is a technical specialist. As long as there is progression and consistency throughout the season - that should be the goal for Osmond.

Good for Kaetlyn . This should set her up well for her GP debut. She seemed so level headed last year and I hope she can maintain that. I've always liked the calm , sort of stolid demeanor Ravi seems to exude with is students ( well, as much as you can tell from the other side of the camera).

Hoping for youtube..( no luck with the Canadian dance couples yet )

How nice to hear Kaetlyn skated so well (still haven't seen the clips).

And just as nice to see many of the same posters who get all over the "hyping of Gracie" showing their true colors. ;)

Just saying.......... sometimes it's nice to see one of your own do so well - and nothing wrong with getting on the bandwagon.

Isn't that not just the definition - but the true purpose of fans

Hope Kaetlyn has a wonderful, breakout season :)

Go Gracie!

Congratulations to Kaetlyn!!!

I'm SO thrilled for her. Her performances at nationals last season hinted at huge potential (at least to me), but I'll admit I didn't expect her to come into her own so soon. Even more impressive than the win is the fact that her scores, both artistic and technical, would hold up in senior international competition quite nicely. I have high hopes of her getting that spot to worlds this season!

When was the last time a Canadian lady won any International event? I can't recall, offhand,

Don't quote me on this, but I believe it was Joannie in 2009. I can't remeber which grand prix she won, but she did get gold in one of her's that year, and she never competed again after that season.

Oops! She won Skate Canada that year, and the previous year, she won Skate Canada and Eric Bompard. Must be short-term memory loss.

Yep.

Just so we're clear, her score in Nebelhorn would've placed her 6th at last year's worlds. It wasn't a clean skate either (no triple triple, UR'd solo triple toe w/ fall, edge call on the lutz, only one level four spin), but she got a level four on her footwork, and outside those two jumps, positive GOEs on every element. Terrific stuff in in her senior international debut.

You cannot compare early-season scores to World scores. Most skaters have new programs and the muscle memory isn't there yet.

Osmond has a real advantage in that she is the chaser, not the chased. She is building her reputation, not having to defend it. She is also a very consistent skater who doesn't let nerves get the better of her.

I'm glad that Skate Canada did the right thing and didn't hold her back in the JGP this year. The best way to prepare for senior competition is to compete as a senior.

Absolutely. Which is why her scores are so remarkable. She can realistically improve from here.

I'm very happy to have been proven wrong in that regard.

As for flying pigs, I didn't see any, but if I were planning a trip to hell in the near future, I'd be sure to take my winter ccoat.

Well damn. What is this sorcery? How in the world has Canada produced another Ladies contender without a decade or two of lagtime? I mean, we knew she was the best hope, we knew she was improving, her solid consistency compared to the average Canadian girl was noted but she's got all of that? Who made the deal with the devil?

Nice story on Kaetlyn, Ravi, and Lance. Seems like a good team.

On another note, with the JGP over for the ladies, who are the picks for JW? Did either of Seguin, Chartrand, or Daleman manage to get the TES minimum for JW, 4CC, or Senior worlds? Or is Osmond still remaining the only one eligible for worlds this year. I realise Lacoste has two chances at SCI and CoC. Maybe even 4CC. But will SC wait until after 4CC this year to announce the "complete" Worlds team.

I do hope for Canada Osmond is the one and gains some consistency, power and artistically develops. This is Canada's answer to Gracie Gold and the puberty infected Baby Russian Ballerinas.

With the ladies done with JGP, Senior B, and Summer comps, who would be the picks right now for JW? I believe with Osmond's 10th place finish last year, SC can send 2 ladies (one to SP and one to qualifying - if that still exists). With Lacoste's SLC performance and Osmond's Nebelhorn performance, is SCI important for Osmond to put herself ahead of Lacoste going into Nationals as the favourite? Can Lacoste catch Osmond if she performs as well as Nebelhorn? Will SC wait until 4CC if Lacoste wins Nationals this year to decide the World spot? Are there any other bright lights on the horizon in the ladies field that have done well in Summer Comps? With the current group of ladies (Osmond, Daleman, Chartrand, Seguin) the immediate future looks good.
