Trophée Metropole Nice Côte D’Azur Junior Ladies SP: Results; Protocols

Chiara finished 7th out of 8 in the SP, with a score of 44.51.

Here is what I wrote about the Warm-Up in the competition thread:

Here is what I wrote when she was being introduced:

And here is what I wrote about the programme:

There was nobody else commenting during this competition. They were concentrating on the Junior Grand Prix in Gdańsk.

Looking at the Protocols, there were a lot more negative numbers than I was expecting. There were only two elements that got positive GOE or any positive Judges marks. And I started to understand why she was further down the order than I expected.

That said, the Protocols don't actually tell you what was wrong with any of the elements. So they must have just been minor issues. Which is probably why I didn't see them.

Because of this, I won't go through the elements with minus GOE like I normally do. I will just say that the negative GOE ranged from -0.74 for the second element, the Triple Flip, to -0.07 for the first element, the Double Axel. And apart from a -3 from Judge 1 for the penultimate element, the Step Sequence, all the Judges marks for the minus GOE elements ranged from -2 to 0.

As for the elements with positive GOE, the third element, the Camel Spin, got +0.16. In terms of Judges marks, it got three 0's and four +1's. The final element, the Change Foot Combination Spin, got +0.18. It got -1 from Judge 7; 0 from two Judges; and +1 from four Judges.

The interesting thing to note is that only the skaters in the Top 3 had programmes with higher Base Values than Chiara's programme. But she had by far the lowest Programme Components Score. So, it sounds like it wasn't so much the programme they didn't like, but the presentation of it. This is actually encouraging. She has the arsenal to do well, but she just has to connect with it more. And that will come as the season goes on and she gets more experience with the programme.

Chiara is currently 1.96 points behind 6th position, Jade HOVINE (BEL), and 1.01 points ahead of 8th position, Andrea ASTRAIN MAYNEZ (MEX). The three of them are the bottom three skaters in a group of 7 skaters covered by 7.22 points, stretching up to Sara FRANZI (CHE) in 2nd position, 6.21 points ahead of Chiara.

A podium is probably too much to ask, given how far the girls currently in 2nd and 3rd are ahead of Chiara (there is only 0.43 points between the two of them). However, if Chiara puts in a good Free Skate, she could have a shot at 4th position, as her team-mate Alexandra FEIGIN (BUL) is only 3.50 points ahead of her.

So, let's hope she does have a good Free Skate and can climb up the order.

:cheer: WELL DONE CHIARA!!! :cheer:

Chiara finished 8th out of 8 in the FS, with a score of 66.76. This meant that she dropped to 8th position overall, with a score of 111.27.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Senior Ladies FS today, as I was having my Sunday Dinner and watching the Formula 1 race from Singapore. However, I have now started playing catch-up on the archived livestream, so here is the sort of comment that I would have written about the Warm-Up for the competition thread if I had been watching LIVE:

Well, we had the camera moving about today. Not long after the graphic with the Starting Order was removed, the camera turned around and we saw Chiara. She was just finishing off a spin, and she went to move away, and she slipped and fell on her backside.

She then went over to the boards while taking off her black jacket to reveal... a black jumper over her dress. It must have been a lot colder than she is used to. Anyway, she handed the jacket over, and then headed off parallel to the boards.

A few moments later, we saw her crossing the shot close to the camera, while doing some warming up exercises.

Then we saw her circling around, looking like she was lining up a jump, but then instead of taking off, she just did a jumped a couple of foot. And then did another small jump. And then came towards the camera and did a third.

Shortly afterwards, we saw her she taking off her jumper as she went out of shot. And when she came back into shot a few moments later, we saw her wearing a pink dress that started out dark at the top and got lighter as you went down.

It was a while before we saw Chiara again, and she lined up a jump right in front of the camera, but didn't have a great landing. She then went down to the far end of the rink, and came back lining up a jump, but the camera didn't follow her and she did it out of shot. Then she came back into shot, and the same scenario was repeated. Then she repeated it again, but this time the camera did follow her. Except that just as she was taking off, the announcer came on saying the Warm-Up was over, and the Start Order graphic re-appeared covering her for a split second just as she was landing. And then she headed out of shot, presumably to the gate.

Well, at least we saw more than we did in the SP Warm-Up.

Not long to wait to see her programme. Just one skater, and then it is Chiara's turn.

CaroLiza_fan

And here is the sort of comment that I would have written about her programme for the competition thread if I had been watching LIVE:

She was in her starting position a long time before the music started.

This is very dark music.

Fall on Triple Lutz.

But Triple Loop went much better.

Lovely combination jump

Beautiful Double Axel and Camel Spin that followed was too.

Ach, popped the Lutz.

Double footed on landing Triple Flip.

Lovely sequence of jumps.

And so was Sit Spin that followed.

She looked to be tiring during the Step Sequence.

Combination Spin at the end good. But she got into her finishing position a bit early, and had to wait a few seconds for the music to finish.

A lot of things under review. 6 elements in all.

Ina Demireva greets her with a hug. They start walking and talking, and then Chiara sits down in the wrong place! Oh, hang on, she was just stopping there to put her skate guards on. Now they are on the way to the results area.

This is good. All the red review boxes have turned to green ticks. Oh, hang on, the last one has gone yellow again. But then it turned back to green.

She goes into 2nd in the FS, and 2nd overall.

She's annoyed at first, but then seems to be more accepting and discussing it with her coach.

Well, I liked the programme.

:cheer: WELL DONE CHIARA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

Looking at the Protocols, I have to apologise for something. I got the conbination and the sequence the wrong way around. The third element was two jumps done in sequence; and the eighth element was three jumps done in combination. I thought I was getting onto spotting the difference between sequences and combinations, but I guess not.

Anyway, there were seven elements with negative GOE; two with neutral GOE; and three with positive GOE. The GOE ranged from -2.95 for the opening element, the Triple Lutz, to +0.20 for the third element, the Double Axel-Single Axel done in sequence.

As for the Judges marks, unsurprisingly the Triple Lutz that she fell on got -5 from all seven Judges. For the remaining elements, all the Judges marks were in the -4 to +1 range, apart from two outliers: Judge 1 gave -5 for the penultimate element, the Choreographic Sequence; and Judge 5 gave +2 for the fifth element, the Camel Spin.

Chiara finished the Free Skate 7.15 points behind 7th position, Kristina GRIGOROVA (BUL), and 7.17 points behing 6th position, Laura SZCZĘSNA (POL).

Overall, Chiara finished 9.81 points behind 7th position, Szczęsna, and 12.63 points behind 6th position, Andrea ASTRAIN MAYNEZ (MEX).

I know it was Chiara's first time competing at Senior level, but I did expect her to be higher than last position. Maybe what Stefania Yakovleva did in her Senior debut a month and a half ago has made me overly optimistic. But. even watching the programmes, I thought Chiara had done better than she did.

Are these new glasses I am wearing rose tinted? (I hope to be back to my old glasses in a few days). Am I getting worse at assessing programmes? Or is it something about the way this event was filmed and / or streamed?

I don't know. But, I thought she was good. So...

:cheer: WELL DONE CHIARA!!! :cheer:

Denkova-Staviski Cup Senior Ladies SP: Results; Protocols

No video uploaded yet 😞

Chiara finished 12th out of 28 in the SP, with a score of 50.07.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Denkova-Staviski Cup.

Looking at the Protocols, Chiara had issues with two element,s although we are only told what one of them was. The first issue was with the second element, the Triple Flip-Double Toe, where the Flip didn't have a clear edge. It had the biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.53, but because it had the highest Base Value of the Programme, it remained as the highest scoring element of the programme. It got -2 from Judge 4; -1 from three Judges; and 0 from Judge 3.

The fourth element, the Triple Lutz, have the second biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.39, but because it had the scond highest Base Value of the programme, it remained as the second highest scoring element of the programme. It got -1 from four Judges; and 0 from Judge 3.

For the remaining elements, the GOE ranged from +0.11 for the penultimate element, the Step Sequence, to +0.33 for the opening element, the Double Axel. Apart from a -1 from Judge 4 for the aforementioned Step Sequence, and a +2 from Judge 5 for the fourthe element, the Camel Spin, all the Judges marks for the elements with positive GOE were either 0 or +1.

Chiara is currently 1.30 points behind 11th position, Carlotta Maria GARDINI (ITA), and 0.40 points ahead of 13th position, Kira THURNER (DEU). The three of them are at the bottom of a group where 12 skaters are covered by 5.03 points, stretching up to Kristina GRIGOROVA (BUL) in 2nd position, 4.63 points ahead of Chiara.

Although it is a big ask, if Chiara has a good Free Skate, it is not out of the question that she could end up standing on the podium, even being the runner-up. However, it would probably require skaters ahead of her to make mistakes as well. Nevertheless, this is a great opportunity for her to climb up the order.

So, let's hope she can climb as high as possible!

:cheer: WELL DONE CHIARA!!! :cheer:

The Senior Ladies FS at is due to start at 14:00:00 EET (12:00:00 GMT). So 8 hours from now.

The Group 3 Warm-Up is due to start at 15:45:00 EET (13:45:00 GMT). So 9h 45m from now.

Chiara is due to start at 15:51:30 EET (13:51:30 GMT). So 8h 51m from now.

Chiara finished 10th out of 24 in the FS, with a score of 89.66. This meant that she climbed to 10th position overall, with a score of 139.73.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Denkova-Staviski Cup.

Looking at the Protocols, there were four elements with issues: the opening element, and then a bad patch in middle of the programme, where three elements in a row had negative GOE. But the protocols only tell us what the issue was with the last two of these four elements.

The opening element, the Triple Lutz-Double Toe, had the third biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.20, but because it had the second highest Base Value of the programme, it remained as the second highest scoring element of the programme. The Judges gave it two -1's; and three 0's.

The sixth element, the Double Lutz, had the smallest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.24, and because it had the second lowest Base Value of the programme, it remained as the second lowest scoring element of the programme. The Judges gave it two -1's; and three 0's (but not in the same order as the opening element).

In the seventh element, the Triple Flip-Double Toe-Double Loop, the Triple Flip didn't have a clear edge. It had the second biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.53, but because it had the highest Base Value of the programme, it remained as the highest scoring element of the programme. It got -1 from all five Judges.

She then did a Triple Flip on it's own, and this one not only didn't have a clear edge, but it was landed on the quarter. It had the biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -1.59, which meant that it went from having the third highest Base Value of the programme to being the fifth highest scoring element of the programme. It got -3 from all five Judges.

Three elements got neutral GOE. The second element, the Double Loop, and the tenth element, the Step sequence, also got 0 from all five Judges. The penultimate element, the Choreographic Sequence, got -1 from Judge 3; and 0 from the remaining four Judges.

The GOE for the remaining elements ranged from +0.10 for the ninth element, the Flying Sit Spin, to +0.43 for the third element, the Triple Salchow. The aforementioned Triple Salchow had the third highest Base Value of the programme, and remained as the third highest scoring element of the programme. Apart from a +2 from Judge 2 for the Camel Spin, all of the Judges marks for the elements with positive GOE were in the -1 to +1 range.

Chiara finished the Free Skate 0.91 points behind 9th position, Laura SZCZĘSNA (POL), and 1.14 points ahead of 11th position, Karolina BIAŁAS (POL). The three of them are the top three skaters in a group where 4 skaters are covered by 3.61 points, which is completed by Jogailė AGLINSKYTĖ (LTU) in 12th position, 2.70 points behind Chiara.

Overall, Chiara finished 3.23 points behind 9th position, Szczęsna, and 5.04 points ahead of 11th position, Białas.

Although Chiara undoubtedly would have wanted to finish higher in her club's flagship event, having previously won it six times at lower levels, she should be happy to have climbed into the Top 10. Don't forget, this is her first season in Seniors.

:cheer: HAPPY 18th BIRTHDAY CHIARA!!! :cheer:

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

I hope you have an enjoyable day, and that the coming year is a good one for you, both on and off the ice.

I first came across Chiara and Vayana a few years ago, and I took an instant liking to them. These were the days before Chiara started dying her hair, and the sisters were so alike. I really liked their style.

For most of her career, Chiara won nearly all the events that she entered in Bulgaria. She was always the skater to beat at her level. However, she has really struggled to find her form in the last couple of seasons. And as a fan, it has been heartbreaking to watch.

Now that she has moved into Seniors, I hope that she can find her form again, and remind us of just what she is capable of.

But for now, I just hope that she has a great first day as an 18 year old.

Skate Fehervar Junior Ladies SP: Results; Protocols

No video uploaded yet 😞

Chiara finished 21st out of 36 in the SP, with a score of 33.93.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Skate Fehervar, as I was concentrating on the GP Final.

Looking at the Protocols, she only had two issues. The first was the fourth element, which was supposed to be her combination jump. She singled the Lutz, and then wasn't able to attach anything onto the end of it. Consequently, it was invalidated.

The Protocols don't actually tell us what the issue was with the penultimate element, the Step Sequence. It had the only negative GOE of the programme, at -0.17, which meant that it went from having the third highest Base Value of the programme, to being the fourth highest scoring element of the programme. The Judges gave it three -1's; and two 0's.

The second element, the Double Loop, was completely neutral in terms of both GOE and Judges marks. And the fifth element, the Flying Sit Spin, would have been completely neutral too, were it not for a -2 from Judge 1.

For the remaining elements, the GOE ranged from +0.22 for the opening element, the Double Axel, to +0.35 for the final element, the Flying Change Foot Combination Spin. Incidentally, these two elements were the two highest scoring elements of the programme. The Judges marks for the three elements with positive GOE ranged from 0 to +2.

So, all in all, she didn't skate as bad as the scores suggest. The problem was the programme itself. It had the ninth lowest Base Value of the entire 36 programme field. Admittedly, the invalidated element would have lowered it significantly. But still.

Chiara is currently 0.25 points behind 20th position, Ula ZADNIKAR (SVN), and 1.41 points ahead of 22nd position, Andreea Cristiana Maria LAZĂR (ROU). The three of them are part of a group where 16 skaters are covered by 11.63 points, stretching from Ekaterina BALAGANSKAIA (SRB) in 13th position, 6.03 points ahead of Chiara, down to Szilvia Barbara FULOP (HUN) in 28th position, 5.60 points behinbd Chiara.

I'm not going to beat about the bush. I'm getting really concerned. First of all by the fact that Chiara has gone back to Juniors, having moved up to Seniors this season. And secondly that she is so far down the order. This is her lowest SP score in over 5 years - since her first season in Advanced Novices.

I know I always say in these posts that the skater needs a good Free Skate. But in this case, Chiara really does need a good Free Skate. Because if she doesn't, it is going to totally destroy what confidence she has left.

Please have a good Free Skate!

The Junior Ladies FS at is due to start at 09:00:00 CET (08:00:00 GMT / 10:00:00 EET). So 3 hours from now.

Chiara will be the 16th skater to start. So, fourth and antepenultimate skater to go in Group 3.

And that is as much as I can tell you, as the Time Schedule PDF's are not working.

But, those times may change if somebody that is due on before her withdraws.

Skate Fehervar Junior Ladies: Results

No video uploaded yet 😞

Chiara finished 15th out of 34 in the FS, with a score of 71.20. This meant that she climbed to 18th position overall, with a score of 105.13.

Unfortunately, I was not able to watch Skate Fehervar, as I was concentrating on the Grand Prix Final and the final round of the Formula 1.

Looking at the Protocols, there was a very costly patch at the start of the second half. But before and after this patch, there were hardly any issues at all.

In the sixth element, the Triple Lutz-Single Axel done in sequence, the Triple Lutz was landed on the quarter. It had the third biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -1.18, but because it had the second highest Base Value of the programme, it remained as the second highest scoring element of the programme. It got -2 from four Judges; and -1 from Judge 3.

In the seventh element, the Triple Flip-Double Toe-Double Loop, the Triple Flip didn't have a clear edge and was landed on the quarter, while the Double Loop was under-rotated. It had the biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -2.65, which meant that it went from having the highest Base Value of the programme, to being the third highest scoring element of the programme. It got -5 from four Judges; and -4 from Judge 3.

The eighth element, the Triple Flip done on it's own, didn't have a clear edge and was under-rotated. It had the second biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -1.56, which meant that it went from having the fourth highest Base Value of the programme, to being the fifth highest scoring element of the programme. It got -4 from three Judges; -3 from Judge 2; and -2 from Judge 3.

For the other two elements with negative GOE, the GOE ranged from -0.33 for the penultimate element, the Choreographic Sequence, to -0.02 for the second element, the Single Loop. Apart from a -2 from Judge 1 for the Choreographic Sequence, all the Judges marks for these elements were -1 or 0.

The ninth element, the Flying Sit Spin, and the final element, the Change Foot Combination Spin, both had neutral GOE. The Judges marks for these two elements ranged from -1 to +1.

The remaining elements had GOE ranging from +0.08 for the fifth element, the Camel Spin, to +0.59 for the opening element, the Triple Lutz-Double Toe. The opening element had the third highest Base Value of the programme, and with this GOE it became the highest scoring element of the programme. The Judges marks for the elements with positive GOE ranged from 0 to +2.

Although she lost 4.53 points for the Base Value of her programme through GOE, the total Technical Elements Score was still considerably higher than that of all the skaters around her. The problem is that the Programme Components Score was much lower than the skaters around her. Only the the skaters that finished in the bottom 6 positions in the FS got a lower PCS than Chiara.

Chiara finished the Free Skate 1.16 points behind 14th position, Michaela MALKOVÁ (CZE), and 0.07 points ahead of 16th position, Ana STRATULAT (ROU). All three of them are part of a group where 12 skaters are covered by 5.32 points, stretching from Boglarka ZHANG (HUN) in 10th position, 2.26 points ahead of Chiara, down to Natalia RUNCANU (ROU) in 21st position, 3.06 points behind Chiara.

Overall, Chiara finished 1.81 points behind 17th position, Tsvetelina PANOVA (POL), and 0.40 points ahead of 19th position, Maxima REBERNIG (AUT). All three of them are part of a group where 9 skaters are covered by 8.09 points, stretching from Sofia LAMPRINOU (GRE) in 12th position, 7.67 points ahead of Chiara, down to Zala GRUM (SVN) in 20th position, 0.42 points behind Chiara.

Well, if going back to Juniors was supposed to give Chiara a boost ahead of Nationals in a couple of weeks, it may have back-fired. Because her struggles have continued. And the fact that she struggled in Juniors as well will probably have knocked her confidence even further.

I just hope that she can re-find her form soon. Because this is heartbreaking to see a skater who has had so much success over the years to be struggling this much.

But, for the very fact that her TES was so much higher than the skaters around her:

:cheer: WELL DONE CHIARA!!! :cheer:

Bulgarian Championships Junior Ladies SP: Results; Protocols

No video uploaded yet 😞

Chiara finished 5th out of 15 in the SP, with a score of 45.67.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch LIVE, as I was concentrating on the Russian Championships. However, I did pause the livestream and watch back later on.

Here is the sort of comment that I would have written about the Warm-Up for the competition thread if I had been watching LIVE:

Although all the skaters in Group 2 were wearing dark coloured dresses, Chiara was easy to spot because she was the only one that didn't have dark hair. (I was never a fan of her dying her hair the past couple of years, but it worked in my favour today!)

That said, it wasn't until near the end of the Warm-Up that I actually saw her do any elements within camera shot. She did a beautiful jump just before the 1 minute warning, and then another during the last minute.

However, something else happened during that last minute. One of the other skaters had a big fall just after Chiara had gone past her. And she hit her face on the ice hard. And when she got up, she was holding her nose. And she went over to her coach, and then went over to the opposite side of the rink (still holding her nose), and was clearly looking for a gate. But she couldn't find one. Then the announcer came on to tell them that the Warm-Up was over, so she just came off the ice with the other skaters, still holding her nose.

Whoever she was, I hope she is alright.

CaroLiza_fan

And here is the sort of comment that I would have written about her programme for the competition thread if I had been watching LIVE:

Still using the same Evanesence programme that she used in Seniors.

Fall on first element.

But next jump was beautiful. And so was the spin immediately afterwrads.

Sit Spin beautiful

Sorry, I forgot I was supposed to be writing about what she was doing.

Now that was a lot better than what we have seen so far this season.

You know, I think this moving back to Juniors might be starting to work.

:cheer: WELL DONE CHIARA!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

Looking at the Protocols, the opening element, the DOuble Axel that she fell on, was the only issue. It had the only GOE hit of the programme, at -1.65, which meant it went from having the second highest Base Value of the programme, to being the lowest scoring element of the programme. Unsurprisingly, it got -5 from all five Judges.

For the remaining elements, the GOE ranged from +0.17 for the second element, the Double Loop, to +0.79 for the fourth element, the Triple Lutz-Double Toe. The aforementioned Double Loop went from having the lowest Base Value of the programme, to being the second lowest scoring element of the programme. And because the aforementioned Triple Lutz-Double Toe already had the highest Base Value of the programme, it remained as the highest scoring element of the programme.

The Judges marks for the elements with positive GOE ranged from 0 to +2.

Chiara is currently 3.52 points behind 4th position, Krista GEORGIEVA (Elit), and 8.48 points ahead of 5th position, Maria ILIEVA (Elit).

Georgieva is the bottom skater in a group of 3 skaters covered by 0.99 points, stretching up to Milena VELCHEVA (Ice Dance DS) in 2nd position, 4.51 points ahead of Chiara.

Top 5 in the SP. That's more like it! And with no pressure from behind, she can concentrate on putting in a good Free Skate to try to infiltrate the group ahead of her. If things go her way, it is not beyond the realms of possibility that she could even make it onto the podium. And that would really boost her confidence!

So, let's hope she does have a good Free Skate!

Chiara finished 5th out of 15 in the FS, with a score of 84.80. This meant that she remained in 5th position overall, with a score of 130.47.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch LIVE, as I was concentrating on the Russian Championships. However, I did pause the livestream and watch back later on.

Here is the sort of comment that I would have written about the Warm-Up for the competition thread if I had been watching LIVE:

Mmmm. Chiara was easy enough to spot at the start of the Warm-Up, because I have seen her FS already this season. But Varvara was trickier, because I don't know what her costume looks like, and there were two tiny girls in this group. But, when one of them came close to the camera, I realised that she had dark hair. So Varvara was the other one.

Right at the start, Chiara claimed a spot right in the middle of the rink to do some spinning. When she headed off, VArvara came into shot doing some jumping drills.

Varvara came in and out of shot a few times. But, we didn't see her doing any elements.

Then we saw Chiara come into shot, taking off her jacket to reveal the familiar red dress that we had so far only seen sticking out from under her jacket.

For the next while, they each came in and out of shot, but we didn't see them do any elements. Then Varvara came in and did a beautiful jump right at the edge of the shot. And then Chiara came in and did a beautiful jump in the same spot. Although, Chiara's landing was slightly out of shot.

Then Chiara came around and did another jump in the same spot. Meanwhile Varvara came towards the camera, and we got a good look at her close up head on. Just after this, Chiara went past the camera close up.

When they both came back into shot, I was worried there was going to be a collision between them. But, they were far enough away from each other for it not to happen. Chiara did a lovely jump, while Varvara changed direction and headed towards the camera before going out of shot. And then Chiara went past the camera again close up.

Chiara then came back into shot and did a lovely jump in the corner where she and Varvara and been doing jumps earlier. And then Varvara went past her. Chiara circled round and went out of shot near where she had done the jump, I assume to talk to her coach.

Meanwhile, Varara came back into shot and did a beautiful jump in the other corner, the one in the middle of the camera shot. This was the start of a sequence of jumps.

Well, that was the last we saw either of them doing any elements, because the Warm-Up then ended.

And now it is time for Chiara to do her Free Skate.

And here is the sort of comment that I would have written about her programme for the competition thread if I had been watching LIVE:

Strange starting position.

Beautiful combination jump.

And the next individual jump was too.

Next one didn't go as well.

But the sequence was beautiful. As was the spin immediately afterwards.

Ach, nearly fell on next jump,

And did fall on the next jump.

3 jump combination beautiful, And so was spin, although I didn';t like the exit.

Change foot combination spin beautiful.

Oh, that's it. I was expecting more.

Well, she had a few mistakes. But, on the whole, an awful lot better than we have seen from her so far this season.

Looking at the Protocols,

Chiara finished the Free Skate 4.36 points behind 4th position, Milena VELCHEVA (Ice Dance DS), and 11.57 points ahead of 6th position, Tsvetelina PANOVA (Ice Dance DS).

Overall, Chiara finished 8.87 points behind 4th position, Velcheva, and 20.14 points ahead of 6th position, Panova.

After the Skate Fehervar FS two weeks ago, I commented:

Well, if going back to Juniors was supposed to give Chiara a boost ahead of Nationals in a couple of weeks, it may have back-fired. Because her struggles have continued. And the fact that she struggled in Juniors as well will probably have knocked her confidence even further.

I just hope that she can re-find her form soon. Because this is heartbreaking to see a skater who has had so much success over the years to be struggling this much.

Thankfully, the below par showing at Skate Fehervar didn't knock her confidence going into Nationals. She bounced back, and scored a lot higher than she did two weeks ago.

Admittedly, Chiara finished up nearly 30 points behind the winner, her much younger team-mate Varvara ABRAMKINA (Ice Dance DS), but nobody was going to touch Varvara. The thing that probably will bother Chiara is that she had another team-mate in between them, Velcheva.

The irony is, if Chiara had stayed in Seniors, this score would have won her a 🥉 Bronze Medal. But, the deficit to the winner would have been even bigger. And she would still have been the third Ice Dance DS skater, albeit a couple of points closer to the second one.

But, after the way things have gone of late, I'm just happy to see her getting a good result.

Sofia Trophy Junior Ladies SP: Results; Protocols

No video uploaded yet 😞

Chiara finished 23rd out of 32 in the SP, with a score of 34.11.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch LIVE.

Looking at the Protocols, they just add to the puzzle. Although there were four elements with negative GOE, there was actually only one element that had a really costly GOE hit.

The opening element, the Double Axel, had the second biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.33. But because it had the highest Base Value of the programme, it became the second highest scoring element of the programme. It got -1 from four Judges; and 0 from Judge 1.

The second element, the Triple Lutz, was downgraded, which meant that she couldn't attach another jump onto the end of it like she intended. It had the biggest GOE hit of the progamme, at -1.05, and because it already had the second lowest Base Value of the programme, it remained as the second lowest scoring element of the programme. It got -5 from all five Judges.

The fourth element, the Double Loop, was also downgraded. It had the third biggest GOE hit of the progamme, at -0.25, and because it already had the lowest Base Value of the programme, it remained as the lowest scoring element of the programme. It got -5 from all five Judges.

The fifth element, the Flying Sit Spin, had the smallest GOE hit of the programme, at -0.09. Although it had the joint third highest Base Value of the programme, this meant it became the third lowest scoring element of the programme. It got -3 from Judge 2; -1 from Judge 1; and 0 from the remaining three Judges.

The sixth element, the Step Sequence, had neutral GOE. And because it had the joint third highest Base Value of the programme, this meant it became the third highest scoring element of the programme in it's own right. It got -1 from Judge 2; 0 from three Judges; and +1 from Judge 5.

The two remaining elements had GOE ranging from +0.23 for the third element, the Camel Spin, to +0.30 for the final element, the Change Foot Combination Spin. And because the latter had the second highest Base Value of the programme, it became the highest scoring element of the programme. Funnily enough, they both got the exact same Judges marks: 0 from Judge 4; and +1 from the remaining four Judges.

Chiara is currently 0.91 points behind 22nd position, Miriam Stefania TALI (ITA), and 0.23 points ahead of 24th position, Maria ILIEVA (BUL). The three of them are the top 3 skaters in a group of 4 skaters covered by 2.11 points, which is completed by Anastasiia FILINA (BUL) in 25th position.

After the SP at Skate Fehervar, I commented that I was concerned because that was her lowest SP score since her debut season in Advanced Novices. Well, this SP score is only slightly higher than what she got at Skate Fehervar. In fact, Skate Fehervar was her third lowest ever SP score, and this is her fourth lowest ever SP score.

I am getting seriously worried. I don't know what else might be going on, but we all know Chiara is better than this. Although she has only won the Sofia Trophy twice, she has always been up there.

Although the effect of these low scores on her confidence is undoubtedly playing into things, the SP programme itself isn't helping. If you look at the total Base Value, it is roughly half of the total Base Value of the leader's programme. This SP prgramme simply isn't worth enough.

At Skate Fehervar, she did much better in the Free Skate, which meant she climbed up the order. And that was despite having major issues with three elements. If she can have a good Free Skate with no major issues here, she could climb a significant number of positions.

So, let's hope she does have a good Free Skate!

The Junior Ladies FS at is due to start at 09:15:00 EET (07:15:00 GMT). So 2 hours from now.

Chiara will be the 10th skater to start. So, fifth and final skater to go in Group 2 (and final skater to go before the first resurfacing).

The Group 2 Warm-Up is due to start at 09:51:30 EET (07:51:30 GMT). So 2h 36m from now.

Chiara is due to start at 10:22:00 EET (08:22:00 GMT). So 3h 7m from now.

Chiara finished 26th out of 32 in the FS, with a score of 48.62. This meant that she dropped to 25th position overall, with a score of 82.73.

Normally, I would say "Unfortunately I was not able to watch LIVE". But in this case, it is "fortunately".

There is no way to dress it up. This was a nightmare skate. Three jumps with no clear edges; three under-rotations resulting in three falls and a repeated jump call; 2 points deducted for Time Violations; a singled Flip; an invalidated Choreographic Sequence.

I'm not even going to go through the Protocols. It is too depressing.

Chiara finished the Free Skate 2.58 points behind 25th position, Neda VASILEVA (BUL), and 0.77 points ahead of 27th position, Ivayla VLADIMIROVA (BUL). Chiara was at the head of a group of 5 skaters covered by 2.74 points, stretching down to Sofiia OSTANINA (UKR) in 30th position.

Overall, Chiara finished 4.79 points behind 24th position, Katerina ALEKSOVA (BUL), and 2.90 points ahead of 26th position, Anastasiia FILINA (BUL).

As you know, my first love is motorbike racing. And in 2025, the 2022 and 2023 MotoGP World Champion Francesco ("Pecco") Bagnaia was having a nightmare season. And by the time we reached the final stages of the season, the pundits on TNT Sports were saying that when you are on a constant downward spiral like Pecco, it gets to the stage that you need to actually hit rock bottom before you can start going forwards again.

Well, although she had 7 skaters finishing behind her, I would say that with that Free Skate, Chiara has now hit rock bottom.

I think it has got to the stage now that Chiara needs a break from competition. And perhaps even a break away from the ice full stop for a while. With her current form, she's not going to get selected for Junior Worlds anyway, so she may as well just sit out the rest of the season and re-group for next season.

We know she's better than this.

Chiara finished 18th out of 18 in the SP, with a score of 24.57.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Nordics as I was concentrating on the Silver Skate Winter Cup. However, the livestream has been archived, so I will catch up on it when I have the chance.

Looking at the Protocols, none of the elements had positive GOE's. Three falls, including one on her final spin which got it invalidated.

I'm not even going to go through what happened. It'll take all day and be too depressing.

But she can take one positive from her SP: a +1 from Judge 3 for the fifth element, the Flying Sit Spin.

Chiara is currently 2.96 points behind 17th position, Lena Rut ÁSGEIRSDÓTTIR (ISL), and 6.75 points behind 16th position, Anna-Flora Colmor JEPSEN (DEN).

This is Chiara's lowest ever Short Programme score. Over 5 points lower than her previous lowest, which was in her first ever SP after moving up to Advanced Novices.

As you know, my first love is motorbike racing. And in 2025, the 2022 and 2023 MotoGP World Champion Francesco ("Pecco") Bagnaia was having a nightmare season. Well, although she had 7 skaters finishing behind her, I would say that with that Free Skate, Chiara has now hit rock bottom.

I hoped I wouldn't be, but I was wrong when I wrote this after the Sofia Trophy FS. Chiara hadn't hit rock bottom then. It is now that she has hit rock bottom.

I said it then, and I will say it again now. Chiara needs a break from skating. She needs to take time away, and then come back with her batteries fully re-charged.

WIth the way things are, I would not even be adverse to her withdrawing from the FS.

The Senior Ladies FS at is due to start at 11:15:00 CET (10:15:00 GMT / 12:15:00 EET). So 4 hours from now.

Chiara finished 18th out of 18 in the FS, with a score of 46.44. This meant that she remained in 18th position overall, with a score of 71.01.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Nordics as I was concentrating on the Silver Skate Winter Cup. However, the livestream has been archived, so I will catch up on it when I have the chance.

Looking at the Protocols, none of the elements had positive GOE's. However, it is not as bad as it sounds, because there were a lot of elements with neutral GOE. And there were three positive Judges marks.

As there were seven elements with negative GOE, I'll not go through them all individually. I'll just do a brief overview.

All three of the Lutzes she did, whether they were done individually or in combination, had issues. Including a fall on her second Triple Lutz, which got it called as a repeated element. She aso had a fall on her Triple Flip.

In addition, her Camel Spin got invalidated.

Chiara finished the Free Skate 4.27 points behind 17th position, Lena Rut ÁSGEIRSDÓTTIR (ISL), and 5.08 points behind 16th position, Meri MARINAC (HRV).

Overall, Chiara finished 7.23 points behind 17th position, Ásgeirsdóttir, and 13.10 points behind 16th position, Marinac.

This is Chiara's lowest Free Skate score since she was in Intermediate Novices back in the 2018-19 Season. And her total score here is lower than three of her FS scores from earlier this season.

Things can't go on like this. This girl is too good to be getting scores this low.

I had a look at her Instagram earlier, and saw that she is doing some shows in the next few months. So, hopefully that will help her to re-find her form.
