Collusion Conspiracies?

I don't know... I think there are issues, but I think at the end of the day, most of the skaters who deserve to win, win. With the new system it's hard to work together, and also I think the fact is that if the skater you want to win doesn't deliver, he/she doesn't deliver.
Well most is not all, and those who don't win and maybe should, feel empty. I can feel for those not winning and not just cast them aside with a generality.

Still why is there so much hullaballoo about a country winning more than the skater?

Joe

I agree with you, I think part of the problem is nationalism is tied to this sport. i mean now you have people saying that ladies isn't interesting because the top girls aren't American.:rolleye:

Funny, but I don't hear ANYONE saying that! Anyone who reads this board can see that Mao vs. Yu-Na is a very hot Ladies' topic.

Maybe the Russians don't think ladies is interesting, but that's because they don't even have a lady in the top 10 and their prospects of getting one look dimmer every day.

is this inside information???::rofl:

It is harder for judges to work together, when they don't know what scores count and what scores don't count. And you hear all the time that Americans won't be interested in Mao or Yu-na. I think it's silly but whatever.

And you speak for all Americans? Seems to me that most Americans are fans of either Mao or Yu-Na, and if not them, Miki. Sure, I'd like to see Kimmie Meissner win a medal, but I would be thrilled if Yu-Na Kim won the GPF again, or Worlds.

My all-time favorite male skaters was Evgeny Plushenko, and my all-time favorite Pairs team was Bechke/Petrov. Anissina/Peizerat were my dance favorites. My favorite lady was Michelle Kwan, but none of the US ladies so far has captured my fancy the way she did. I like to see the US ladies do well, but I am not heartbroken if they don't.

And apparently, from videos of Cup of Russia, Johnny Weir is a huge favorite in Russia. He sure is easier to back these days than any of the wildly inconsistent Russian men.

As for collusion, when several panels at a competition are heavily tilted with multiple former SSR judges, the chances of more than one having their vote count is pretty darn good. That gives Russia a lot of clout for deal-making across disciplines.

My all time favorites are:

Pairs- Miskutienok/Dmitriev and Totmianina/Marinin
Men- Eldredge and Lambiel
Dance- Anissina/Peizerat
Ladies- Irina Slutskaya

Those are not the only skaters I like(d) or even like(d) alot but my absolute favorites. Men and Pairs it was hard to pick one so I tied them. Yu Na Kim might tie or even surpass Irina as my all time favorite. I love her skating and want her to dominate the next 3 years atleast.

The big question arising from the posts above:

Do skating fans in Russia wish for non Russian skaters to win?

We can't use Weir as a possible answer when there is no top Russian male skater to compete against him.

Well, there's no top Russian women, men OR pairs. Neither of the two best Russian Pairs has any shot at a World medal right now, and maybe not in the forseeable future.

So the question should be: would Russian fans root for a Dance team other than DomShabs or Khok/Nov to win?

NO WAY:rofl: ..Russia must win in dance ..or else

And the western europe federations do not have as many eastern europe judges.
For Worlds, there are 10 Eastern European nations with judges vs. 8 Western European nations with judges. (This does not count Russia, Israel, or former SSR's (3).)

Western Europe will supply 19 judges, and Eastern Europe will supply 15 judges.

Russia, Israel, and the former SSR's will supply 12 judges.

Asia will supply 8 judges.

NA will supply 6 judges.

Only Russia and China will supply one judge for each discipline.

^ Interesting. So it's Europe, 46 judges, the rest of the world, 14. Still a European sport after all.

Well, you should visit Russian skating boards. The hate towards Kawaguchi and Domnina is larger then around here. There is huge Russain fanbase for Jonny Weir, Lambiel and Joubert. Savchenko and partner are also big favorites. In Dance it is all about Virtue/Moir and Delobel/Schoenfelder.

I can understand Kawaguchi -- Smirnov would be a prize for any Russian pairs skater -- but why the hate for Domnina?

I believe it mostly because of the coaching team, they are disliked. Besides, people like Khokhs more. And you will not believe it, but majority of Russian fans love V/M , not so much B/A though.

Well, I am talking about internet boards not about arenas.
