No I didn't associate the name right away (nb. the correct spelling is Sylwia Nowak, now Nowak-Trębacka)

I understand that is the Polish spelling, but when she competed, she was universally listed at Sylvia Novak on ISU rankings. No doubt Plushenko is written in the Russian language very differently, but generally, the English is used for the purposes of ISU information.

ETA: This is the CD Thread, and it was on the subject of the merits of the CDs that I objected to your comments, more or less saying they were worthless in another thread [in Anna's forum], and that Dance shouldn't have 3 segments to the comp - ofcourse it should! That's what I meant about ponitificating without knowledge.

I don't recall writing that they're worthless, I noted that the ISU seems to be on the path to eliminating them from international competition. There used to be three, then two now one (what number follows in this progression?) And I argued both sides of the (possible) issue from the point of view of a free skating fan who admittedly doesn't follow dance much and who regrets the loss of figures.

I can understand that CD's are indispensable in training and testing ... but the only reason for them to exist in elite international competition is if they have a real effect on final standings, and I don't understand the logic of just having one, I would think that two with styles of dancing (that are different from each other and the OD) would make more sense in terms of basic skills testing.
How different would the finishes of the euros/worlds/olys in the last ten years if the results were calculated only with the OD and FD without the CD? I have no answer to that (and am too lazy to look it up) but IMO using that as a basis for deciding on their future would make sense.

I do vaguely remember Nowak/Kolasiński, mainly for seeming to be perpetually stuck outside the top ten for years on end but I avoided dance for years, I've recently been getting interested as it (maybe) is the last refuge of certain skating skills I like as I really dislike the direction free skating has been heading.

As for her name, that is truly weird, IME Polish people don't normally change the spelling of their names outside of Poland (except for dropping accents like ł, ą etc). Google turns of a lot of hits for Nowak in English too though. I suspect her name got respelled for her.
