Top finishers return for the 2008 Coupe de Nice

The 2008 Coupe de Nice features a bunch of familiar faces, as six of the top nine finishers from the 2007 event will take the ice Oct. 16-19 in Nice, France.

Brian Joubert withdrew from the competition. He said he still have some problems with his skates...but he will skate at the gala hwell:

Note that at the time the article was written, he was going to withdraw but it was not sure. It's official now.

To sum up, he says that he doesn't feel well because his blades problems are still bothering him and that he was thinking about withdrawing from Masters but he did not. He doesn't want to make the same mistake here. He feels like he hasn't practice his LP enough. And if he has too many meltdown, he'll be affected mentaly.
He also adds that he prefer to concentrate on his GP events than the coupe de nice because it's not an important competition.
He thinks that the fact that Tomas Verner is having some bad skates (Obersdorf) is a bad thing for Tomas. His image will be harmed, because "The Olympics are in only one year and you can't afford thoses kind of meltdown, you have to show that you are always at the top". He also adds: "Even if he was one of my fierce's competitors, I take Plushenko as an example. At the 2005 world championships, at home, he chose the withdraw because he was not feeling well. He still went undefeated after that..."

I wish in the future, when Brian's done with figure skating, he'll become some kind of adviser for the remaining figure skaters. He'll always have an opinion on who should be doing what And a useful one, too!

It's ironic or not? Because IIRC Brian always said that when he'll retire he would like to be DTN of figure skating (which is basically someone who is 'reponsable' of a sport and of its devellopement in France) and President of the French Skating Federation (FFSG). Then maybe, Minister of the Youth affairs and Sports

They seem to have high goals, better watch them at US Nats:

Their goal for the 2008-2009 season is to medal at Nationals and to earn an international assignment from the Indy Challenge. Their career goal is to make the 2010 U.S. Olympic team. Chloé and Joe also hope to have an injury-free season.

Well at least Mclaughlin and Brubaker will have some competition at Nationals

If things keep up, those two could very well go 1-2 at nationals and secure a berth on the world team

Katz/Lynch have been in the NYC area for quite a while, and they have skated US Nationals. Nothing special about them but they train hard.

Very surprised Y/S lost to them, but it is so early in season.

Joubert withdraws from Coupe de Nice

Brian Joubert announced two days ago that he would not participate in the Coupe de Nice, as he had intended. After a poor showing at the French Masters two weeks ago, where he lost to Alban Preaubert, Joubert had hoped that he could start his international season in Nice, just three weeks before his first Grand Prix assignment, the Trophée Eric Bompard.
