WOW again...

The spread in scores is huge between the Chinese pairs and everyone else. I like the COP more and more. It's great that a significant difference in the skating is rewarded as such rather than the equidistant ordinals.

I can't wait to watch S&Z's free skate on TV. I'm sure this program will just keep getting better each time they skate it in competition. Hope so anyway!

I appreciate your enthusiasm, and I agree with your point about COP actually recognizing HOW MUCH better one skater or pair is than another, but the Chinese pairs did not score significantly higher than all the rest - particularly the third place Canadians. In fact there is very little difference between second and third place and both the second and third place teams had HIGHER technical scores than did the first place team.

Just pointing it out for what it's worth.

The Canadian pair was in the 60's too. That's what I get for speed reading and posting before I've had my full ration of coffee.

None the less, it seems we agree that the degree of skaters / pairs differences being rewarded is a plus!!

Absolutely. I really like that what you do in the short really counts....not just whether you place first, second or third and so control your destiny in the long with a shot at gold. Now the actual placement is not so important as the score. So if you have six skaters who all have great short programs, they all have a shot at the title. Under the old system, reputation usually ended up sorting out placements when this happened and if you were unlucky enough to end up in sixth, you were virtually out of the medal running.

Likewise, if someone has a far superior skate in the short it counts in the final result, even if their long isn't as strong.
