Thank you! So much better to watch on YT. Can you translate what he said and if the caption at the end mentioned 2 kinds of quad?

You get a gold star for the bolded description.

He said "My jumps have come back up to 3A with no problem, which gives me confidence." :)

Thank you so much for sharing! I've been watching that clip on repeat over the past couple of days. Gosh, he's floating over the ice, melting into Sakamoto's beautiful music. A match made in heaven! :luv17:

A gorgeous picture of Dai practicing his SP can be found on IFS magazine's website:

Kansai Figure Skating Stars festival (a variety show feat. Dai, Nobu, Marin, Miyu, Satton, Mai, Kaori and Kazuki) from yesterday's The Ice broadcast on Kansai TV:

Edit:

As expected Dai didn't want to make a fuss about his unretirement and wouldn't have held a press conference for the announcement at all if it had been up to him. He had planned to just resume competing without further fanfare (the same way he initially planned to retire in 2014). Of course just like back in 2014 people wouldn't let him get away this easily. :roll5:  (So much for a couple of the more "creative" theories about his motivations for his comeback some people came up with. :coffee:)

Thank you redgreendress on twitter for the translation!

Part two of Bev Smith's article is up! This one's about the process of creating the choreography for Dai's SP:

https://bevsmithwrites.com/takahashi-part-two-choreography/

Who's excited for Dai-chan's new programs? :yahoo:

I AM!THIS alone makes my day any day. ->
because this boy is a choreographer’s dream

What's more that brings me tears is it comes from one of the very top choreographer like David Wilson. I rememeber Pasquale said the same thing years ago when he did the choreo of 'La Strada' for Dai; 'for me it's like the dream has come true'.

Takahashi represents “everything that people are worried is going to disappear from our sport,” Wilson said. The elegance of movement. A program that speaks, and doesn’t just rumble through elements, chalking up points.

Even today, as an old-timer of the sport I sometimes can't believe that this boy is from our country tbh. Back in 1965 when Nobuo Sato placed 4th at the Worlds, IIRC he was whispered into the ears by one of the medalists, "You would have finished on the podium if you had been representing either an European country, US or Canada..." Of course it was BEFORE I started following the sport, my oldest memory begins with Janet Lynn at Sapporo Oly Games.
If you're a Japanese fan and has followed figure skating, say, for the last 5 years or so, you may not see my feeling since Japan's become such powerhouse of the sport now. But old-timers like demarinis, doris or Mathman would understand me perfectly, I think.

Thanks again for the link. :thank:

IFS Magazine tweeted about 2 hours ago: A short clip of Daisuke Takahashi new short program for the 2018-2019 season, "The Sheltering Sky" (with music). This caused an overload of traffic on the site, disabling the link - "Resource Limit is Reached". That's what happens when you entice Dai fans! :gaah:

Meanwhile, we have these to appease our hunger:

Thirst quencher: B&W practice footage from Courchevel. Those fabulous arm movements! :luv17:
Working on choreography with Benoit Richaud.

Eye candy: Vogue Japan pics. :love:Coffee, anyone?

Despite only 15sec video, I can watch this all day! His steps are... so magnetic, just can't take my eyes off.:

It says 'Vogue Japan will be supporting Daisuke Takahashi's challenge'. I am wondering if Vogue J plans to help him with costumes. They did Hyoen projects last season, right? Their costumes were breathtakingly beautiful.:points:

I am relieved that it does not seem something serious and should be recovered by Kinki Regionals. Selfishly I am disappointed that we won't be able to see his new programs in PIW or FOI

Excited for sure! It took me a while to post (thus I didn't see yours) since I was trying to translate the text into English, which came out all jumbled in sentence structure (as expected) and it would take too much time for me to "deconstruct" the sentences, so I gave up, lol

Hope that a video pops up soon and a nice Japanese fan can share with us what he said on the carriage.

Can someone who speaks Japanese interpret what was said at this touching exchange between a crying Nobu and laughing Dai?

https://twitter.com/redgreendress/status/1029381548280299520?s=21

The caption is in Spanish, which I can remember some, but it would still be nice to hear from a Japanese speaker. Thanks.

There's an English-captioned version (skip to 7:23 for the exchange between Nobu and Dai, although I'd recommend to watch the entire interview :)):

Just read on twitter that Taka handed/left Dai a bouquet of flowers to wish him luck for his comeback. Not sure, if this happened on the ice or backstage? In any case, what a nice gesture! It's so touching that their bond has been lasting beyond their time as fellow active competitors.

Edit

Seems it was one of those awesome huge flower arrangements skaters get sent backstage at PIW: https://twitter.com/aura2002/status/1030632418166824960

Thanks, synesthesia! I did watch the whole thing. The part where Dai said he was disappointed that he couldn't make his coach smile was really sad. I still remember the disappointment & sadness myself during Sochi, which is why this video is my sentimental favorite, because I was looking forward to seeing him skate like that in Sochi. Was that Chris of BSPN doing the commentary? "Uh, just brilliant!", "Beautiful!", "Uh, it's just a dream, isn't it?" Love the adoration!

Everybody, let's go eat Yakiniku on the 29th, the official Yakiniku Day! And we have to invite Shoma along

Lovely GIF animation of Dai's beautiful movements. :luv17:

Daisuke showed up at the rehearsal of FOI today with his skates on! :yay: https://www.hochi.co.jp/sports/garticle.html?id=20180823-OHT1I50160

A lovely, heart-warming photo with his big sister (Shizuka) and brothers (Yamato & Takeshi), a very special bond and friendship they have cultivated while pushing one another over the years. :):):)

ETA : One good reason I posted this one in particular? Just look how he looks relaxed and smiling. It's so nice to see Dai as if he were 16/17 yo again as the youngest son of a, say, big family, since his recent comeback to competitive ice has been quite a topic among some other skating fans and questioned about, I'd guess. ;) And must be a worry and heartbroken for some of new/young Dai fans. But just NO WORRIES, our dear friends. :):ghug: Dai and his team have been through the worse than this. They've learned long ago to stay positive, focus on themselves, find a way out of the present difficulty, what's the best solution/option for it, or just to ignore it if necessary. So have his old fans. Ask demarinis.

We have no time to worry, guys. The Kinki regionals is almost a month away. Let's wish him well. Goooo Daisuke! :yay:
