Kiss & Cry Interview with Dai-chan

http://www.tvguide.or.jp/feature/kissandcry/20180827/01.html

I won't lie that this injury has had me concerned but I second deedee's sentiments about Dai's situation. Fingers crossed for him. GO Dai!!!! :cheer:

I'm not sure if this has been translated before, but here are some highlights:
-His injury was a pulled muscle.
-He has his triple Axel back and will put it in his program, but no quads yet. (He was embarrassed that he could only do a triple Salchow, aww.)
-He feels like he's grown up both physically and mentally.

Daisuke showed up at the rehearsal of FOI today with his skates on! :yay: https://www.hochi.co.jp/sports/garticle.html?id=20180823-OHT1I50160

A lovely, heart-warming photo with his big sister (Shizuka) and brothers (Yamato & Takeshi), a very special bond and friendship they have cultivated while pushing one another over the years. :):):)

[whole post]

Wonderful post. Thank you, deedee! :ghug:

Utako and Takeshi were guests on the latest edition of friends+ (Shizuka's talk show on Nittele Plus) and said that Dai looks happy and fulfilled in practices these days – for the first time in a long while actually. What else could we ask for?

A couple more translated snippets of the talk can be found on this twitter account:

Additional info: Dai said he got injured while attempting and popping a 3S when he wasn't properly warmed up yet. He then aggravated the injury while doing steps. He sounds quite optimistic and says he's learned to be patient.

The Olympic Channel released their full interview with Dai, which we've already seen bits and pieces of before:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iDykau8pDOc

It's sounding increasingly likely he might come back for longer than just one season!

In an e-mail interview with Japantimes David Wilson talked about finally having the opportunity to work with Daisuke again:

“It went really well and he’s more amazing than ever,” Wilson wrote in an email to Ice Time. “You can really see the increased maturity in his skating. It was so much fun and inspiring for me to work with him again. He’s just the coolest guy in skating!!!”

Japantimes also briefly interviewed Moa Iwano, who trains alongside Dai as a student of Nagamitsu- and Honda-sensei, a month ago. She too had complimentary things to say about her senpai:

“Working with Daisuke is great, because he is very talented and very generous,” Iwano said Sunday night in an exclusive interview, following a four-day junior training camp at Chukyo University. “He’s so good for me. He’s really a positive influence on my skating.”

“He is training very hard every day,”
Iwano stated. “He always comes to me and offers his help and encourages me."

“If I am struggling with my jumps, he will tell me, ‘You can do it. You can do it.’ ”

Iwano detailed her aspirations for the 2018-19 season to Ice Time.

“[...] I want to finish in the top six at the Japan Junior Championships so I can skate in the All-Japan Championships with Daisuke.”

^^ Thanks, synesthesia, hoping you're feeling a littel better now. :)

Thanks also for posting David's comments:

Really made my day. :) Can't wait to see the work of the artist x artist inspiring and responding to each other in the making. Should be stunning, heavenly, another masterpiece of Dai x DW.

Thanks! :thank: A great read, indeed. :)

「今はスケートが楽しい。楽しすぎて罪悪感を感じるほど。
こんなに楽しいのは10年ぶりくらい。
滑ることができる限り、最高のパフォーマンスをいろんな場所で見せていきたい」

"Now I do enjoy skating. I'm just so happy (to skate) that I feel kind of 'guilty' myself...
The way I enjoy it now is something like for the first time in almost 10 years.
As long as I can skate, I'd like to skate and show my performances to people as best as I can at various places/occasions."

 Thank you, Daisuke for coming back to ice. We all are looking forward to seeing your skate at any place you are to skate! :yay:

ETA He also mentioned about his recent injury here https://www.nikkei.com/article/DGXMZO34888680S8A900C1000000/, I agree this must be very recent interview. The writer is Masako Hara of Nikkei who had followed his career for years and published a book on Dai "Step Step Step" back in 2011: https://www.amazon.co.jp/STEP!STEP!STEP!-高橋大輔―フィギュアスケートを行く-(日経ビジネス人文庫)-日経ビジネス人文庫-スポーツ/dp/4532195780 The book was very unique I thought, she wrote from view points of a 'no-expert-of the sport' focused on his thoughts and feelings, very interesting I read it several times.
Earlier in this article, he said that the last two seasonstill Sochi was a real struggle for him with injuries and other things, he couldn't perform as he wished and he almost hated skating;;;
If he's happy with what's he's doing now, it will make me happy, too. :)

Some really nice comments on Dai by Satoko: :) Sorry in advance if already posted somewhere.

https://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/hl?a=20180907-00000310-sph-spo
「毎日くぎ付けになりながら練習している。
曲が始まって踊り出した瞬間から世界観が生まれる。
試合で滑っているところを絶対に見たい」

"My eyes are glued to his skating while I do my own on-ice trainings every day.
The moment the music begins and he's dancing, he can take us to his own world.
Honestly I'd love to see him skate these programs at competitions."

Satoko also said that once his turn for run-thru starts, most skaters stop their skating, they can't take their eyes off him.

Those Nikkei articles were great reads, thanks for the links.
Nice to hear him say that his combo jumps that were often tight on the second jump in his later career has now been improved, though that doesn't mean I have high expectations from him in his comeback in the technical aspect, I'll just take it easy and will enjoy what he wants to show on the ice.
Also, as a fan of Ryuichi Sakamoto I'm excited Dai is skating to Sheltering Sky. I suppose it's the trio version from the album 1996 and not the OST version. Also looking forward to see the free done by Richaud that Dai said in one of those articles would be very different from what one would think of as Dai's program.

(Since Dai seemed to enjoy experimenting with the choice of choreographers in his career I kinda secretly hoped he would ask someone that would surprise us all, like Machida for instance.)

Thank you Zenchio and deedee for the links and translations of the Nikkei and Yahoo articles as well as for the additional info on "Step Step Step"! It's the only Dai book I don't own yet. It will go on my shopping list together with Dai's calendar for 2019.

Earlier in this article, he said that the last two seasonstill Sochi was a real struggle for him with injuries and other things, he couldn't perform as he wished and he almost hated skating;;;

He reiterated this so much over the past few years that I constantly feared he'd turn his back on skating altogether at some point. I'm incredibly relieved that he has found his mojo and says he genuinely enjoys skating again! It took him a bit over three years and a couple of "detours" to realize that he belongs on the ice. I can imagine the many varied experiences he gained along the way will prove to have been very valuable and will enrich his future performances. Can't wait to see the "new" Dai soon! Which brings me to...

FujiTV ONE heard our prayers! (Or rather had no choice but to give in to the pleading?) They'll broadcast part of Kinki Regionals live!!!!! :party2:

:thank: Skating Gods! Is Fuji TV One available online without an account? I have to make sure I calculate the time correctly so as not to miss it! Let's see, October 8th is on a Monday. Looks like I will be able to watch it the day before in the evening.:dance3:

Here is an awesome animation of Dai's beautiful skate from an insanely talented artist/fan:

:eeking: Are you buying it? Then I have to mention before you click thru Amazon. I wrote it was unique and interesting but it may be only to me I'm afraid, synesthesia. This book was criticized when published, heavily criticized back then, esp by those who's become Dai fans upon winning Oly Bronze medal in Vancouver IIRC. sigh... Such as, imperfect proof reading, the writing style is immature unprofessional almost childish!, can't believe she's really a Nikkei writer? Published by Nikkei only made things worse, you know, since this newspaper is considered as Japanese virsion of 'Wall Street Journal' in my country. :disapp: Good sides of this book is its price; very cheap, and its size; approx 12cm x 15cm very handy so that I could hide it deep in my business bag from my hubby's suspicious eyes ;). Insightful on people on Team D1sk and a couple of things that happend to the team, guessing Hara-san had been following the team to abroad for some years. Also, very informative on the sport; specifiyng prize money on competitions, common ideas as a sport business and/or how the politics works within the sport. Very interesting, but again maybe to me.
ETA Photos are nice. Short comments on each photo by the photographer Ken Kobayashi at the end of book are even better! Like "Free at Vancouver. At the opening, he did challenge for a quad but fell. As a professinal cameraman I can say for sure; that was the coolest/most kakkoii fall the world has witnessed EVAR! No doubt."

Hope this helps you a bit before you go to Amazon, my friend. :)
