ETA Brand new!! Today Dai attended a fs meeting for kids of elementary school. According to quick on-line translation, he recalled his days as kid, going to school with heavy school bag. His wonderful smile while assisting this young skater melts the ice :luv17:

https://cantilovertranslations.tumb....rst-day-of-the

Mao and Daisuke’s talkshow on the first day of The Ice with Mai:

Mao: All of the skaters that I am really close to are here, there’s nothing that makes me happier than this.

Daisuke: It feels like a class reunion. Is it okay that we’re having this much fun? (laughs)

Mao: It’s honestly been so long since I’ve seen everyone, so it’s been so fun like during practices and on the rink.

Daisuke: But we get so into our conversations that we don’t listen to instructions and we’ve gotten scolded for that (laughs)

Mai: Both of you have started stepping forward on your new paths after retiring from competitive skating, but how do you feel looking at each other’s situations?

Mao: I’ve only retired this year, so everyone else retired a bit before me, but I feel so inspired seeing Dai-chan as a reporter and performing in dance shows and such, and also seeing Mai working hard on stage. For me, I think the new beginning officially starts after The Ice 2017, and I hope we’ll continue to work hard together.

Daisuke: I myself am still trying out a lot of different things, and I’m still in a roaming position. Like, ‘What should I do~~’. I would like to continue experiencing different things. Well, I’m more interested to see what Mao does from now on than what I will do.

Mai: You two have known each other for more than 15 years, including going to the Olympics together, and going to a training camp in Canada together when you were both in elementary school.

Mao: During that training camp in Canada, we were always together for more than a month. That program Dai-chan just skated, Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto no.2, I think I was 14 when I saw that program and thought it was so nice and pretty. This Rach piece was the piece that I had always wanted to skate to. If we were in the same segment we would’ve been rivals so if I were a guy I would’ve never used this piece, but I thought maybe I will use this because I’m a girl. I remember Dai-chan’s performance of it so clearly since I was 14, that’s how good of a program it was, so I’m so content that I got to see it again today.

Daisuke: I didn’t think I would skate it again either. (laughs) I’m happy that I got an opportunity like this.

Mai: You two have known each other for a very long time. What is your best memory of each other?

Mao: When I was in 5th grade and when Dai-chan was 16 I think. Around that time, didn’t we perform at Candelero’s ice show, just us two? We also performed in an ice show in Kazakistan together. It was really just us two, so we were always together, and we just ate horse meat everyday. (laughs)

Daisuke: Because Kazakistan’s local dish was horse meat. We kept eating it while saying like, “it’s getting a bit too much isn’t it”. (laughs)

Mao: We ate like a whole life time’s supply of horse meat.

Mai: I think there were fans who cried even more seeing Dai-chan cry after watching Mao’s Sochi performance. (laughs)

Daisuke: Since then, I’ve become so prone to tears. Until then, I never cried that much, but she made me cry two days in a row in Sochi.

Mao: I think that was the first time I saw Dai-chan’s tears as well! I think there are a lot of other people who thought that?

Dai: I’ve cried quite a few times since then, because that was when I burst out crying.

Mai: Now, Please say a message to each other. First, from Mao to Dai-chan.

Mao: Since our ages are bit apart, we weren’t together during our novice years, but since our junior years, we’ve gone to shows and training camps together, and we’ve competed in the same competitions a lot when we became seniors. A lot of the times, the mens segment was first, so there were many times when I skated after seeing Dai-chan’s results, and if he won or something, I would think, “Aaa, us ladies must do our best as well!” and I would always work hard because of that. Therefore, there was a part of me that was a bit down after Dai-chan’s retirement, but now, since we are both moving into our new pathways, please continue taking care of me! Wait, that sounds a little weird. (laughs) More like, let’s both work hard individually!

Daisuke: Mao wrapped it up so beautifully. (laughs) Since there was the presence of “Mao Asada”, I was able to work hard during my skating career. Now that Mao has retired and is moving forward as a pro skater, I want her to open pathways that only she is able to open. To open opportunities and pathways for the younger generation of skaters when they retire and become professional skaters, would you… do something like that for us even though it’s so far in the future? (laughs) In the end, Mao Asada is a skater who cannot be copied by anyone else, and I don’t want to lose against her either as a rival, so please, let’s continue to work hard together. This is kind of embarrassing. (laughs)

Mao: I didn’t think we would be asked to say a message for each other.

Mai: It’s not in the script, I just wanted to hear it myself. (laughs) We’re starting the second half of the show now. Mao, what is your feeling now that this show has begun?

Mao: I’m so nervous since this is the first day. My legs are shaking. Since it’s been a long time since the last show, so I think the audience is nervous and excited, but I’m also nervous and excited.

I think Mao always had a crush on Daisuke .

@chapis, sorry: this morning I was in a hurry and half asleep and I forgot to thank you :thank: for posting this delightful chat!! And thanks to kind translator, too!!! :thank:

Mao and Dai make a wonderful couple and it's a pity there is no romance between them, just a great friendship. I really wish they can "do something" together in the future, creating new opportunities for pro-skaters. They both have the right attitude and work-ethic.

Oh gosh... Nearly p*ked just watching....still feel dizzy...urgh. Dai is like :roll9: and the pilot, totally cheery, "Here we go, mou ikkai...lalala....one, two, three" Oh gosh.....

Wow, you're lightning fast with the updates, Pattina! No chance to keep up with you. :p

I'm a little disappointed Dai didn't scream. ;) Was kinda looking forward to that, but maybe it's not advisable, if you don't want to pass out. :noshake: I'm super impressed with his valor. I've had a headache all day and after watching that infernal ride it got even worse. I love rollercoasters, but no way would I subject myself to something like that. :eeking: Loved how the pilot jokingly compared the "yonkaiten" looping to a quad jump.

Can anyone translate, if Dai said more interesting stuff about his experience during the debriefing? ~puppyeyes~

You wanted him to scream? Why? To be honest air shows scare me, big time. I've been to one as a child and later that day another happened in Germany, at an american airbase where many people were killed. I will forever feel kind of sick when I watch planes doing such maneuvers....but Dai is pretty tough, so I wasn't really worried.

There's a reason I put this little guy ;) behind the sentence. :) It's like screaming on a rollercoaster. The adrenaline makes you do it unconsciously and it helps relieve the fear/stress. It's a pretty natural reaction for many people. As I said I'm immensely impressed he did this. Being tough unfortunately doesn't help when there's an unexpected problem with the plane or one of the pilots in the formation makes a mistake. Doesn't matter how experienced these pros are, it can always happen. It was Dai's choice to trust them. I'd never attend an airshow as a spectator, let alone climb on board, because like you said, if something goes wrong, the consequences are in all probability disastrous. (Obviously not only for the people on the plane.) Thankfully all went well in this case.

I was thinking Dai could scream because in the past he sometimes defined "scary" sports or activities he would have not tried: skydiving or scubadiving, for instance, admitting he is a person that gets scared easily. And in such a situation one scream now and then would have been quite normal. He was really really brave!!

If on-line translator is correct, according to this tweet Dai said that G (force) was Yaba i (scary ) and his neck was a bit stiff.

Now that you're saying it, I remember this. :) Didn't he also admit to being a big scaredy cat in recent years during one of the Stars on Ice talks with Mao, Nobu and Akiko? (When they did a "quiz" where they had differently coloured boards to indicate which member of the group fits various descriptions the most. :scratch3:) Makes it all the more impressive that Dai hurled himself into this adventure and that the pilot even attested he was the bravest passenger he ever had on board!
