Daisuke Takahashi

Great news from today's FOI press conference! Dai intends to do a Challenger this season.

Didn't they release who does which Challenger for Team Japan already? I hope he comes to Germany, but my dreams rarely come true. Since he's not doing the GP, maybe he'll do a later one like Golden Spin.

Isn’t Nebelhorn the only Challenger here in Germany? Their entry list might already be closed. I’m not sure. :scratch2:

Let’s hope together that he shows up at a CS in Europe. I’d be happy with any of them!

Dai will be a guest on Ntv's "Anohito" on Setember 18th. They're going to show footage of the choreography process for The Phoenix in the US where Dai got to meet Beyonce* :

* She is or at least was one of his favourite artists. He once revealed that he attended one of her concerts together with Shizuka and that he listened to her song “Sweet Dreams” nonstop before he took the ice at the Olympics in Vancouver. So she was actually a lucky charm for him!

On the 30th of August Mao and Takahito had a talk event in Dai's hometown regarding the heavy rain disaster last year. Apart from reporting their experience while visiting the damaged area and discussing recovery efforts, they also shared their memories with Dai-chan over the years with the audience:

Daisuke Takahashi, Mao Asada and Mura Takahito at the memorial lunch on the 19th of July, 2019. Daisuke Takahashi couldn't partiticipate in the show but he did a long way to fly to Almaty just for few hours to honor the Memory of Denis. Thank you, Daisuke, for your love and attitude.

Ayaka posted a backstage clip of Nobu and other cast members singing along with my favourite ensemble song / call to battle in Hyoen. You can hear Dai's solo line (who is on stage in that scene) at the 0:12 mark:

Dai in Hyoen and in the Phoenix look like two different persons, but they are the same guy only one month apart!

After Nebelhorn, only three CS events are listed in JSF's schedule.

Asian Open - same weekend as Western Sectional, you have to fly to Hong Kong to get to Dongguan
Warsaw Cup
Golden Spin - same weekend as GPF, two weeks before Nationals

So he may participate in Warsaw Cup?

Yes please!

I know he said he'll do a Challenger, but in case scheduling doesn't work out with any of the comps you listed, he could get his TES minimums at another international B event too. :)

Figure skating Vancouver Olympic bronze bronze medalist Daisuke Takahashi (33 = Kansai KFSC) appeared in an event sponsored by the sports maker “Puma” held in Tokyo on the 2nd.

After the Sochi Olympics, he retired once, but returned in July last year. Even at the age of 33, the ability is still alive, such as being ranked second in the All Japan Championship in December. Actually, after retiring for the first time, he became fond of skating for the first time.

“I started skating when I was 8 years old and had a good reputation, but I didn't know if I liked it.” However, after retirement, he noticed that skating gave him confidence, and he spends his days enthusiastically skating, saying, “I can do my best and I have only seen it now.”

Lastly, as a “legend” in the skating world, he told his juniors, “If you are lost, you can't move on. You can do it as you want. You can challenge until about 35 years old."

Hyoen is a fabulous work of art, loved it and Dai-chan was a revelation, that man is a genius!

Highlights of Friend on Ice featuring Dai's new SP is going to be aired today. We will finally get to see the entire program of the Phoenix :yahoo:

Dai also said he will perform the Phoenix in Carnival on Ice on Oct. 5.
https://youtu.be/XqU1R2hv8fc?t=586
He said "Do I have to do an encore after the Phoenix? The program is so demanding, it's so hard to do an encore after that."

As always thanks for the tidbits, mikeko!

The Phoenix from today's FoI highlights broadcast (beware of the atrocious camera-work, which doesn't show Dai's feet for a large part of the program :roll5:):

The SP has some great touches and as it is so often the case with Dai the stsq seems to be the highlight (love the hitch-kick towards the end - it's like an homage to Cyberswan).

Can't wait to see him grow even more comfortable with the demanding choreo. Hopefully we'll get better camera-angles at CaoI.

Dai don't push yourself too much.
Whenever you give a great performance its mpre than enough.
Reserve your strenght because we want you around as long as you can.

Just Wow!
Does he really make it SP hitting 3 jumping passes and putting 3 spins altogether with these non-stop choreographies?! :drama:
Does he also wear that kind of sleeveless T-shirt at actual competitions?! :o: There's a rule that prohibits male skaters wearing costumes without sleeves or showing shank, I thought?
These choreographies would be too tempting a bit under competition lighting... :o::o:

Wishing to see the program in competition!
About the T-shirt, don't think would be a problem, the rule about clothing only says about long trousers:"At ISU Championships, the Olympic Winter Games and International Competitions, the clothing of the Competitors must be modest, dignified and appropriate for athletic competition – not garish or theatrical in design. Clothing may, however, reflect the character of the music chosen. The clothing must not give the effect of excessive nudity inappropriate for the discipline. Men must wear full length trousers. In addition, in Ice Dance, Ladies must wear a skirt. Accessories and props are not permitted." And if ladies can show the arms, why not men?

Knowing Dai he will probably have a different costume come time for competition. It would be a shame though to change this one. Those muscles in his arms are something to
behold. I have seen photos of Dai in shorts working out (ahem nice legs), but I don't remember seeing a photo of him in a sleeveless shirt.

Nope, they threw that rule out few seasons ago... maybe circa 2016? Men have now the right to bare their arms at competitions, and we've seen skaters like Rippon and Cizeron taking advantage of the rule change.

I fully support Dai flaunting his naked arms! :agree:
