did anyone watch it last friday? Specifically the second story "Where there's smoke" about the Alaskan woman who bruttally murdered one son and tried to kill the other one? I knew that family. And Dateline was putting a horrible spin on it until they finally realized what sort of wacked out liar she was.

I was really disappointed that they didn't even mention the boy's life in Kenai. And that they made it sound like the parents' divorce was the cause for them moviing. It WASN'T she was divorced and moved here and then when people caught on to her weird and scheming ways she moved again. I have no feelings for her. She used to scare me, and that she did something like she did just makes me sick. The boys were in the youth group. Our pastor was supposed to testify at her trial, but the state felt after the trial began that he wasn't needed. They had such a strong case. And the judge that oversaw it is a jerk and weeny so of course he "felt bad" about putting her in jail for life.

She disgusts me.

Hi Toni,

No, I didn't see the story, but it doesn't surprise me that the news people got it wrong. I had a neighbor who managed to get on the local news complaining about how our city was full of nasty teenagers who threatened her daughter. Gee, can you guess WHY her daughter was threatened? Might it be because she was a nasty bully who carried a knife and threatened the kid who then threatened her??? Did the news person (who went on to a national/network job) even bother to talk to any neighbors or even the girls school? I doubt it because then that idiot would never have made the air.

No, this little story is nowhere near the awful mess you described. But I wanted to show you that not everything on the tv news has been well-researched or even approached in a rational manner.

I am truly sorry you had to be so closely involved in such a terrible event, even at a distance. The situation you described would have given me nighmares for months. The fact that a person I grew up with murdered two people a few years ago left me with nighmares for quite awhile. That person always made me uncomfortable as a kid. I never saw him after junior high school but I guess I wasn't as "surprised" as the "neighbors" the tv people always interview who say that they never would have believed that person would ever do such a thing. Boy, that was awkwardly phrased!

I hope you and your friends and fellow students and church members are healing from such an emotional experience. The whole situation sounds dreadful and I guess the news coverage just made everyone there feel even worse, but I also guess that people would feel bad no matter how well such a situation was covered.

Another example of how life is unfair. I'll include those poor kids in my prayers. There is nothing a child could do to deserve such treatment.

oh I'm aware that the news media is mostly off it's rocker... I live in Alaska and hey we're all too stupid to run our own state as far as Dan Rather and Peter Jennings are concerned :rolleye: so yeah there is media biased...

but once they realized what a liar the mom was they were none too happy, it was just they couldn't really go and re interview her after they dropped the bomb on her heh heh heh. ;)
