Denis Ten

I was hoping it was yet to come. That I would see him healthy at 4CC this season and finally "get" him. I always thought there was potential, I just didn't see all of it, but I wanted to.

I still can't believe this happened! This is horrible :hopelessness::sad4:

I'm at a loss for words. My heart is falling down the world's deepest hole. I didn't know Denis personally, and I'm shaking from how quickly he was ripped away from us... I absolutely can't imagine how the people who knew him are feeling right now. My deepest condolences to them.

Thank you for everything, Denis. May you rest in peace. I won't ever forget you.

Denis had a lot of injuries, many times the jumps didn't work out in the programs, but his Step Sequences were ALWAYS a joy to watch. In his ice shows he could really show off all that he was capable of. His talents went beyond skating. Music, photography, costume design, directing and much more.
I'll always remember how much he showed the beauty of skating in his own way, with his own style.

This is shocking news to read this morning. My goodness.

Sincerest prayers for his family and friends...

His winner's interview after his fabulous 2015 4CC performances with his graciousness and charm towards his Korean fans. I was pleasantly surprised with his ability to express himself with his in-depth and well-thought out answers.

Denis turned me into a major fan with his 2015 4CC performances. I think his LP had a little more hype, it was very unique and different, but his very classical SP resonated more with me personally.

He identified very strongly with Korea due to his Korean heritage, and I know winning 4CCs in South Korea was important to him. Two totally magical performances, followed up with a first-place LP at Worlds, and a bronze medal overall. 2015 Worlds was so close between the top 3! It was an exciting competition and I was rooting for Denis to win it all that year, but I was happy with his bronze, too.

After the 2014-2015 season, he never really recaptured the brilliance of 2012-2015, struggling with injuries and other issues. Especially once multiple different quads became 100% necessary to be in the top echelon of men during the 2015-2016 season, I wonder if he felt as motivated to win, or if he instead readjusted his goals to be more realistic for him? I don't know - he just never had the same cleanliness and power to his skating that he had shown he could have during 2012-2015. Competitively, he was never the same, but I was always excited to see him skate anyway.

(But gosh, his last SP at the Olympics was so sad . I think his injury and foot issues just made it impossible for him to train at the level he had in the past. Idk. I'm so sad right now.)

Denis's interview after he won 4CC in Seoul, and his absolutely riveting, gorgeous spell-binding skating there, will forever be cherished.

Denis spoke for a long time about what it meant to him to be in the country of his ethnic heritage and to be so welcomed, appreciated, well-received, beloved there. IIRC, he spoke about his (and anyone's) experience growing up in a country and being of a different ethnicity from the majority.

What I remember best is that he was inclusive in his comments. And especially, his joy and gratitude at being included so generously, when he didn't necessarily expect it. (That was my impression.) It seemed that he considered it a defining, full-circle sort of experience in his career and in his life.

RIP Denis Ten. And for those crooks that stabbed him, may you be caught and get all those charges that is coming to you, including MURDER!!!

I have just seen this on Tumblr. I was reading a post that didn't start well and I was wondering what was up and then at the end I see that this happened. I am just completely shocked and speechless. This is like when Kira Ivanova died, except that now I am living this right now...

His career went downhill because of injuries and other problems... He didn't qualify for the free skate in PC... But now I'm realizing... It didn't matter at all? Even if his results weren't as good, even though he wasn't able to win medals, he was still there. He was still able to skate and to give us joy with his skating. It really puts everything into perspective. Remember, even if some of you favourite skaters are struggling, enjoy their skating and them as people as long as you can... Because all of us will have to leave forever and it can happen at any time. And as Karne said, I suddenly feel almost guilty for critisising him in some instances, although it is not rational to think that, since none of us had an idea what would happen and you should not keep quiet just because of that, but it makes me think I could be more kind when giving critisism and mainly, just take what we have and enjoy the figure skating world as it is.

Denis, you will be dearly missed, and even though you might have been taken from us, your skating will forever remain with us and that's what matters in the end. You will be still able to give us happines through the memories we have of you and of your skating, and I'll try to keep them as long as possible.

I really don't know what to say.

So young. And so much talent.

My thoughts go out to all of Denis' family, friends and fans.

This is really a horrible case of being at the wrong place at the wrong time. :( Poor Denis, and so young. No one deserves something like that. RIP Denis.

I hope justice will be served!
