Deniss Vasiljevs

I'm not a fan of the JO format at all...but happy that Deniss will get a chance to perform, of course! Should be some nice money even if Team Europe comes in last place.

That was my main thought too 😅 it's not a real competition, but it's much more lucrative than a CS.

Interesting decision. Well at the end of the day, JO is more like a stretch of a show, "competition" is really of little importance in such a event. And this will influence which Challenger Deniss will do. Finlandia out, Nebelhorn unlikely. At this point Lombardia is becoming more and more likely!!! :yahoo:

Sure it is, that's why they invited Deniss while there are some skaters with higher PB but less interesting performances ;)

Exactly my thoughts. Still hope for Nepela, though...

Nepela is also possible IMO. I loved Bratislava and wouldn't mind going back there, if he goes there. It's just that Bergamo is much closer from Champery!

The Lion King EX is still better, Deniss performs it with such a grace and confidence. I feel that the EX with Stephane, which was beautiful while performed for the second time only, can be a complete masterpiece in the future. It's a privilege for their fans to watch so emotional, suggestive and powerful performance. (Not to mention that I learnt about symbolism of left hand in Orthodox icons, trying to interprete their costumes...). The idea of taking advantage from the fact that Stephane is still active performer, being a choreographer and a coach and having so talented student is invaluable. And I like their last bow to each other - some pairs, especially Russian, do it and it's so nice expression of thanks and respect.

I think Lombardia is likely, given what Deniss posted last year. Pending the schedule working, of course. I think the new Innsbruck CS might be likely, IF Deniss isn’t at COR. But maybe non-GP Team Champéry skaters would do that one.

I thought of the Innsbruck one initially, too. But it is in the middle of the second half of the Grand Prix run, IMO the schedule will be too tight, supposing that Deniss will do one GP in the second half. It is the same week as Rostelecom. NHK a week before, I think it is too long of a travel to do back to back. France is the week after, not too long of a distance, but I don't think it is wise strategically, for him to participate and exhaust himself in a smaller event right before a Grand Prix event.

Apparently there was a fan meeting at FaOI Niigata today. Uploading of photos was not allowed :( but there are reports from the meeting here https://twitter.com/fs_ally/status/1010544701814915073
Stephane came with him this time, instead of Chris :)

One interesting thing he said is that he'd like to skate to Iron by Woodkid https://youtu.be/kRm3vYF2BQw I loved Assassin's Creed (here's the relevant game trailer, be warned, it's bloody and violent) and this would be a nice vehicle for him IMO.

He wants to continue improving the quality of his programs and introduce quads. (Also a couple of other things I didn't quite understand)

Kenta Kojiri worked with him on the choreography for his FS this season.

Two photos from Nocturne practice in Niigata. One shows them from a different angle that the broadcast's camera and it's

Edit: I've just noticed that the photos are on Kenta Kojiri's twitter :palmf: According to the fan meeting report: he was also a choreographer of the Nocturne duet (if I understand correctly google translation from Japanese).

They talked (Deniss was asked, but Stephane did most of the talking) about the collab program and the theme, but the gist of it is the same as what was explained before.

He was asked if he recalled his dreams (interesting question ) He said mostly not, but sometimes a certain image can stick and he'll draw it. For example he drew a prince and a peasant and he was creating a new story about it.

Why is he always in the middle in photos? He said it's an accident ie. not on purpose. Everyone gathers to take the pic and that's just where he ends up. But it's a nice coincidence

Question time was only 20mins so that's where it finished. Then they took pics with Deniss and and he signed posters, banners etc. Stephane left while the photos were being taken and came back with bags to take all of Deniss' presents home. Stephane didn't want to take many photos with fans because it was Deniss' fan meeting but he agreed to a few. At the end, they all took a group photo together :)

Thank you so much!

A couple extra details - Stephane said that he has two roles in his life now, as a coach and a performer, and he feels that he was able to show both sides in this program.
