Deniss Vasiljevs

I think his ultimate goal is the 2022 Games, when he will be 22yrs. old. It is good to have a long time goal, pace himself and not to rush on things. There is a chance that the direction of the sport might change to tame the craze for quads after the 2018 (maybe just my wishful thinking but one can only hope!), so it is also good to take a stance to observe the general tide for the time being.

Exactly! I am so impressed with his clear, paced, goals. If he keeps improving competition by competition, he'll do well in Pyeongchang, but he'll be amazing by 2022! He can't go from 0 quads to 4-5 in a year, and he shouldn't try, but 2 seems reasonable, and puts him at the level of the top Russian or Canadian men, with higher PCS potential than anyone than Chan, Uno, Hanyu, Fernandez or Brown. I could see him breaking into the top 6, especially if others make mistakes (likely with so many quads)! There's no reason he can't have the whole package, jumps AND artistry, and he and Steph seem to have a good plan to get there.

Also, it sounds like he hasn't picked music yet. I'm dying of curiosity!

My thoughts exactly. Going from 0 to 4 quads in a year does seem unlikely, but in a few years more? Don't see why not. It's better to approach this things at a comfortable pace
He's already improved so much this season and if he keeps this up (sure seems like it ) he'll be fantastic by 2022.

When he said 2 quads, does it mean 2 types of quads or the total number of quads for both SP and FP? Sorry, I'm confused because English is not my first language. Either way is fine though...Or it might actually be both :v

Amen. I understand the desire and hope for Deniss to develop quads.

But Deniss' showmanship, beautiful spins and love of skating make him special. I don't particularly care, as with my other faves, whether he ever really gets a quad. As long as he stays true to being Deniss.:agree:
:2thumbs: My other favorite, Patrick, did an LP run-through in practice at Worlds with no jumps at all and I fell in love with the program all over again. I have no doubt that this would be true with Deniss as well because his programs have so many wonderful details. I am already excited to see Deniss's programs for next year and it's only April.

^^^I definitely want to send Deniss a message. I sent Jelena a FB message but haven't heard back. Can you possibly send a PM with the address to those of us who want to mail something? Thx in advance. :thank:

Don't worry, we decided on details this evening, tomorrow she is going to the post office to set up a box to receive the mails. So she will be likely to answer you some time tomorrow. If you don't hear from her by tomorrow afternoon (your time, remember Latvia is 8 hours ahead of you!), let me know (I posted the OP) or comment on the post, I will check with Jelena!

Now, the main question here is how to keep calm and not come running to Latvia myself to see Deniss with my own eyes.
Someone, please tell me this is a bad idea T_T

^^^Perfect! I know when I send to Czech Rep. it takes between 7-10 days. So that should be a good amount of time. Good way to set it up too - I was assuming she wouldn't want to put her address out there for all to see. Thx MGstyle for your efforts with this. It's an awesome idea for an awesome skater!

Thanks for posting the info here - I'm not fond of Facebook & don't check there too frequently, though Deniss's fanclub is one of the better groups on there, for sure! Jelena's efforts are much appreciated. I hope I can think of something special to send...

Time to draw something at light speed for Deniss! So exciting, thank you so much for organizing this!

I'm so relieved he's taking it 'slowly'... the most important thing is staying healthy and having a clean, stable base. He's too young to risk his health without any measures, and if things keep going the same path (re: quad spam), it'll be just a matter of time before the ISU does something about it anyway.
In any case, whatever the number of quads, I have a feeling this will be one big season for him :) (but Deniss, please! you've had standing ovations without any quads... the audience is yours already)

lol no
Seriously, I think Deniss will design his constume by himself? As far as I know, Stephane designed his costume after the red cat disaster... So I think he will encourage Deniss to design it by himself?

I would love to see a new ex of Deniss in FaOI! Not that I hate bring him home but I would like to see something delightful from him

I think Deniss mentioned in the past that he usually gets involved in the making of the costumes, most likely helping with details or the overall concept since he likes to draw. However that was some time ago when he was still training with Urmanov. I don't know how things are now. Personally I like most of Stephane's costumes (yes, including the zebra and the red cat ), but I'd definitely like to see a new and different style for Dennis.

Whatever they come up with for the upcoming seasons though, I hope they bring back those short gloves that look so amazing on him :luv17: (here and here too)

What red cat disaster? What did I miss? :laugh2:
I'm so sorry you asked. Now you won't forget...

Yes, I suggested her to use a P.O.Box, no need to give out your personal home address to unknown people. And thank you, but the majority of effort will be made by Jelena, I, being in far-away Rome, can contribute so much, even if I wish to do more!!

You're welcome, that's why I planned to post the news here, too, because I know not everyone frequent facebook. The group is open to the public, so anyone can access it!

Also, everyone please don't overstrain your brain trying to come up with something extraordinary and clever (which is likely to end up in discouragement and deciding not to participate!), the most important is that each of us show our love and support to him! Even a few words that come straight from your heart are what will touch him, just as his performance straight from his heart touches us! :agree::luv17:

Very interesting! And it seems he was saying this is the last day Deniss is training in Champery before going to Geneva?

Thank you Latvian TV, we definitely need more interviews! (is he going to Geneva for a show?)

Side note, I haven't drawn in ages and my skills are all rusty, but I had to give it a try again for Deniss

Your drawing is fantastic! I love your style!

I'm really not sure why they're going to Geneva. I don't think it's for a show, though. :scratch2: Maybe Stephane is doing a workshop there or something?

Apparently Stephane and Deniss designed the FS costume togehter. What they told to a Russian jurnalist during Rostelecom:
"Deniss: The idea that was on the picture, when we were planning the costume, was really interesting, in my opinion. But when it came to realization [of it], we met a lot of troubles, a lot of problems to make this costume as we wanted. So there was a lot of work, and there’s still a lot to do, to make it very good; a lot of changes. (...)
Stéphane: Well, actually, the costume [for the “The Four Seasons” FS] represents the soul of the nature. It has a dégradé of colors, from cold colors to warm colors – to illustrate the nature has seasons, and he’s the soul of the nature. There is not a story to the program – there’s more like an atmosphere, where you can see the different colors of the nature.
Deniss [smiling]: I know how to make the costume crazy: you just have to take a lot of small tiny branches, put them all together around, and that would be the perfect costume.
Stéphane: He has a lot of imagination [smiling]."

The interview is avaible here: http://www.insideskating.net/2016/1...told-by-stephane-lambiel-and-deniss-vasiljevs

As I am a novice at the forum, I would like to send my warmest hallo to all Deniss' fans.
