Deniss Vasiljevs

^^^These Red Square photos are priceless! :luv17:Wishing Deniss all the best. Can't wait to see him tomorrow.

Two 4S attempts in practice today! Underrotated and two-footed according to Jackie Wong, but my heart started beating so fast!

I can't handle how excited I am for tomorrow.

Yes, it sounds like he isn't quite there yet with the quads, but I'm glad he's trying. And I know the competition is strong, but I'm sure he will put on a great show no matter what :)

I really believe that Deniss is the person who is able to pull himself together at the right moment. I'm sure he will have a quad and he will present a wonderful performance because, to my mind, his SP is beatiful and fits him very much. Let's keep our fingers crossed!!

Deniss seems to be in good mood, really relaxed. And isn't he a couple of centimeters taller than he was in spring?
I truly believe he will break a barrier and perform clean and beautiful 4S in the competition.
By the way, people in Moscow have a lot of fun watching all the athletes jumping and dancing around the Red Square

He looked absolutely fantastic, and his interactions with Stephane just warm the heart. Very pleased...I would've put his score a bit higher, of course, but a PB is a good step forward :)

Deniss did very well today https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nuNxVTTCEFM
New PB! :yahoo: And they spruced up the costume, a new vest and and jabot. He looks very handsome.
Lovely new costume and lovely program!!! Great job, Deniss!!! :yay: The jumps were on today, although the Axel was a bit shaky. But honestly, I just got lost in everything else Deniss was doing on the ice. I especially love the subtle movements at the very beginning and the step sequence is beautiful!!! His last spin is always fun to watch. :hap57: And the commentary on this video actually made it even more enjoyable because I could tell they were enjoying it and appreciating it.

I must say that I love his previous shirt and the jabot reminds me Stepen Gogolev's FS costume so I thought at first moment that it was a little bit juniorish... But Deniss looked so beautifull and elegant that I quickly forgot about that hesitation :luv17: And his skating was fabulous, no hesitation at all

I remember what Stephane said about Deniss' injury - that recovering needs a complete rearranging the way he moves and this obviously takes a lot of time. So every points he gathers to increase his PB just make me perfectly happy.

I'm a bit sorry for Deniss today. After yesterday's program full of energy and passion, today it seemed he struggled through. I didn't dare to say it earlier when I saw the program first at Lombardia, but to my mind the FP was not that good for him as the previous year which was more dynamic and he could show the diversity of his talent. At least the choise of music is not the best. The first two parts are too similar. I listened to the commentaries in Russian and I have to say that they were truthful. Russian coach Tarasova pointed out that the second part was almost boring. The third was much better because it was energetic and swift and he could show his emotions. She also remarked that he has still grown taller. It might be the reason for not so successful jumps.
The second commentator spoke a bit about Deniss' and Stephane's relationship. We already know how well they are getting on. He told that Stephane feels as if he has adopted him although Deniss has a loving and caring family in Latvia. They do a lot of things together-cooking, learning languages. Deniss likes baking and treating the others.
The first words Lambiel said to him were -good fight. It was really a fight. So he has to fight further and master the jumps. In the recent interview in Latvian Deniss told that he will do a quad only if it doesn't hinder the whole program. Anyway, everybody is expecting and will expect a quad. He has to do it and I can imagine what will the the audience reaction when he does it.
I love Deniss very much. I don't remember anyone who has touched my heart so much. His simplicity, kind-heartedness, good humour, determination, talents and smile are amazing. I hope for the best!

Yes, I will say that the first part of the LP is too meandering and when the jumps aren't working, it really suffers. The last part he obviously enjoys much more - you can see how he suddenly comes to life and he performs it so much better. I hope they'll consider reworking it a bit because my sense is that Deniss himself does not really feel the first part deeply and since he's not 100% engaged, he is more prone to make mistakes.

Let's hope they will improve it if possible. Although in the interview Deniss said that he likes both the programs, but obviously something doesn't work.

Oh, my sweet baby... What truly broke my heart was his disappointment (comment in Russian TV: "His word mustn't be translated").
I am not sure what Stephane is going to do with his jumps as they change them for the competition (the design for Lombardia Trophy was slightly different). And someone reported he was trying 4S earlier in Moscow while he was expected to do 4T, so I am a little bit lost... Anyway, 3Lz+3T was the best combo today and it's a brand new element. As it worked, hope they stay with it. Also believe that he can successfully perform 3A+2T in the future.
Third mark for choreo sequence, behind Yuzuru and Misha Ge, is something I am going to drink a glass of wine for
Scores aside, he is a great performer and it's a pure pleasure to watch him. And, what he affirmed today, he's a great fighter. And (sorry, I simply can't resist) s**t happens ;)

It was his first ever attempt at 4T and he was clearly distracted, and it affected the entire first half and became a bit of a disaster. But I saw the positive in the Sway section, he really pulled himself together and managed to save what could have been saved, when the camera showed his facial expression I could see he maintained the high level of spirit and even sang along, and demonstrated his usual showmanship. Which is to me very significant, as it is so easy to get demoralized by such a bad start and wallow in it for the rest of the performance. It is a sure sign that he has the mentality of a champion.
Anyway, I am sure his ultimate goal is the 2022 Games. So IMO it is better not to rush and push too much on quads, especially with the voices about the reform of the scoring system after this season. It is too bad this doesn't get the equal or more value to a 4Lz combination, to me it is worth more than that :party2:

You can also see him a bit in Moris K.'s Instastories hanging out with Valeria, Popova/Mozgov and Elena :)

It's true, he really doesn't need to rush the quads since he doesn't have to compete with any fellow countrymen for a spot at the big championships. Of course, it's better to get them as soon as possible since it seems all the more difficult for an older skater (see: Jason). But health first. We want him to be around as long as possible, especially since he loves skating and performing so much. Slow and steady wins the race.
