Deniss Vasiljevs

Denisssss! :hap57:

I am just sooooo happy he showed what he could do on a wider stage. I don’t care about his jumps, (I’ve seen what endless nattering about jumps has done to my other favs) I care that he keeps what makes Deniss special.

And he is special

His SP was really one of the most enjoyable moments of the quad. There's such a sense of catharsis in the ending sequence.

Judging was shameful as usual. His PCS was 3 points behind Kolyada!

Hey, he went from 12th to 7th to 4th at his 3rd Euros appearance. Nothing to be sad about. Without a quad it was always going to be harder to medal, but he is proving himself one step at a time.

It's natural that he's only going to score so high without a quad. Doesn't matter, he's young and they're clearly working on it. And best of all, his PCS has been going up nicely since last season.

Exactly. 4th place is a very good result. And I for one am glad he went for the 4T. A good way of showing he is getting there and letting others know that they should prepare :D

Yeah, he would get criticism if he never tried it either. At some point you have to take the plunge. And in the end he still would have been 4th had it been landed, so really no harm done. The most important thing is that he didn't let the rest of the program go after the fall.

I took a deep breath on Wednesday (small bronze medal, yay!) and tried not even to think about Deniss' chances for a podium, just not to jinx
Now I can breath freely ;) and write HOW MUCH I AM HAPPY FOR HIM! :yahoo:

His bronze in SP was a surprise - and it wasn't at the same time, considering a state of Europeas men's figure skating - I mean, when I looked through the list of contenders, I knew Deniss when clean had a great chance to be third. And he took the chance, what was amazing!

Moreover, in FS he went for the quad, what was surely a painful experience, but it had to be done. He needs quads, it's obvious. It's great he decided to try it at that particular moment, when many would be tempted to act safe). In fact, even with the 4T he would be fourth. He's more than 15 pts behind Kolyada and even if clean with nice GOE - he could have been like Vanessa and Morgan, having missed a podium by 0.01 pts. But the quad trial I hope fruits in the future.

OK, I'm gonna celebrate :dance3::dance3::dance3:

That was quite an FS for Deniss. Had a chance to watch it again. That opening 3A-3T -- sheesh! And glad he tried the quad, even though he didn't make it. Was great to see that he kept fighting and didn't let that take him out of the performance. Always love to see his showmanship in the "dance'y" part of the program. :party2: :dance3:

Tanith White was very complimentary of Deniss during the Oly Channel broadcast. She really enjoys his skating and says it is obvious he has a bright future. He was very committed to the performance. He is well trained, well packaged, well rounded. She enjoys seeing a bit of the essence of Stephane in Deniss' skating. This was a real triumph!

Hope you all saw the amazing photo shoot previewed today
They both look like "Hollywood stars" indeed  Hope Japanese fans provide translation of the interview.
However, the session scenery is rather awkward  At least the wallpaper fits to their suits colour...

That opening 3A-3T -- sheesh!
His 3As were magnificent, no flaw in the whole competion. Remember we were worried about them just weeks ago? And he delivered them with such a grace :luv17:

Always love to see his showmanship in the "dance'y" part of the program. :party2: :dance3:[/I]
Me too! But what happened to the kiss? Though intensive eye-contact is also really sexy :luv17:

OK, now I'm waiting for the icing on the cake - Deniss's EX.

Congratulations to all Deniss’ fans!

There are really some very positive things to mark and celebrate.

1 He has a better result than a year ago.

2 The 4th place is certainly a very good place.

3 He is the 4th without a quad!!

4 He tried the quad and it is appreciable!! From his own words we can get that he was not sure about it but he did and was not so nervous anymore as he was at Rostelecom. He is more self confident.

5 At last he has cracking 3A!

Still it hurts a bit but it is understandable. The 4th position to all athletes has always got its special bitter “taste”- it is so close to the third! And as he was already the third, it’s clear we wanted him to be there again.

Anyway, I’m a bit confused. I looked through Judges details per SP and found that one of them (Ulla Faig) has given for all components the basic mark 7, while the others have given even a full score higher. I realize that this evaluation will always differ and it’s natural, but not to such an extent. Why the others were so impressed but not her?

Maybe I’m not right as it’s only my subjective point but Deniss could be the third. I fully agree about Havier and Aliev, They were the best. I agree that Koyada is a very good skater but he also had mistakes. But Deniss has something Koyada hasn’t got- he has this special attraction. When he is skating, you can’t take your eyes off! The speed, the step sequences, spins and skating skills are amazing! To my mind, this time Mikhail was overrated (at least the difference was too big), there was no personality and brilliance in his performance.

I’m very happy about Deniss! Now we have to wait for the Olympics.

I agree very much but I think there is a mindset that the one with the more difficult layout = the better skater, even if they never manage to execute that layout. It's silly but...:confused2: Mikhail also gets rep points for being Russian #1. His PCS was a bit more down to earth than usual, but I still think Deniss's deserved to be much closer. I agree that the difference in their performance quality is night and day, Deniss absolutely engages the audience and has that special energy, a spark which is missing from Mikhail who spends most of his time looking down. I think if you're going to present yourself as a showman - you'd better be a showman!

Anyway, Deniss just has to keep doing what he's doing and scores will keep creeping up. I predict that he will get one of those medals next year for sure.

If I watched figure skating only because I wanted to know who got which medals, I would have given up long ago. The reason I've stayed a fan for so long is because I care about the actual skating that is presented. Others may watch for different reasons, but for me, I want to see good skating. So yes, the judging matters in that I hope Deniss is as successful as possible, but whatever scores and placements the judges give him, I will still be watching and appreciating his skating. I know everyone in this Fan Fest will as well; I just thought I'd share the viewpoint I have come to over time. It seems to be a less common view, given how heated debates over rules and scores and results can get in the general threads. (Hint, hint, that's why I hang out/post mostly in the Fan Fests, where there is a more positive atmosphere). No one can take away how we feel when we watch Deniss (and any other skater we appreciate), and that feeling is what is most precious to me.

BACK TO CELEBRATING!!!!!! :cheer: :cheer2: :hap10: Congrats on a great Euros, Deniss!!! All the 3As were GORGEOUS -- take them to Pyeongchang, please! ;)

Hear, hear! I have always said that I don’t care if my favs can challenge for a medal; I care if they can love skating, and make me feel that they love skating. And Deniss does.

My first love was the late great Toller Cranston.:luv17: I love skaters who follow in Toller’s skates. Deniss is one of those skaters. I don’t care if he ever “gets” a quad (other than I want Deniss to be happy) and I don’t care about his score (other than again I want him to be happy).

But I am more than happy about fourth at Europeans! And such great skates. Bravo, Deniss!:yahoo:
