Deniss Vasiljevs

As I'm in that "I don't care about Golden Skate rules" vein, I'm contradicting Deniss Vasiljevs. He may not have all the control he wishes to have, but his wonderful skating skills show that he has a very good deal of it, more than so many skaters who, for some, work or have worked on them without managing to get a tenth of his precision. Maybe, training at Champéry, he believes that it's a given for all skaters and coaches to have excellent skating skills? It's time for him to go back to competition and watch others...

Hoped he might get away without the F, but well 😞

to clarify: there's no -1 or F in the protocol, but -50% GOE which would indicate it's seen as a fall (which it wasn't, yet they ripped his 3S (cause downgraded) off)

He's cut his hair again! He now has the same hair cut as his coach, to the point that during a fraction of second, just before the start of the program, I wondered if Stéphane Lambiel hadn't taken his place, wondering what was that illusion!

The jumps weren't there, even the 3A and the 3Lz + 3T were somehow lacking flow, but the rest! His glide, his mastery of ice and blade, have increased again I think.

@yesterday, when there's a downgrade, not only the base value goes down to that of a jump one rotation less, but also there are calls; adding the calls for the hands and so on, it's not that surprising that his GOE is -5. Only a certain skater could get a positive GOE for a jump with two hands down, and it wasn't normal.

He was doing some great quad jumps in the warmup, so I'd hoped it would work this time. I thought everything after that was fantastic. He'll need to adjust the jumps to be further from the boards at Skate America, because American rinks are smaller than in Europe, but the 3A and combo looked solid.

This is such a gorgeous program and he expresses it SO well!

Yes, the combination looked rather near the board, but I thought that it was the camera angle.

About the score, I don't say that he's been underscored, but there are claims that another skater was outrageously overscored, I read a Tweet in answer to a GoldenSkate tweet but I don't know if I can bring it here, particularly because the author reported something in full letters, that was rather ugly.

He had almost the same score a year ago and that was enough for Bronze. Its not all gloom and doom. The season just started. Deniss knows what he needs to work on. That said, I still think the short was really good and the free program was still okay. I look forward to Skate America.
Agree with you 100%. Cannot wait to see these programs live in a couple of weeks!

You are going to Skate America? I hope you get to meet Deniss. Please give us live reports.
I am!! Cannot wait! I was on the fence about going, but couldn't pass up an extremely rare opportunity to watch him skate in the US.

I will definitely report back. I was lucky to meet him in Switzerland last winter and it would be cool if it happened again, but either way, I am excited to see these new programs.
