Did not miss Plushenko at all!

it's not like he was there last year either... I've not missed seeing him "skate" so I guess we finally agree

however IF he were to be scored like the others based on what he did the day of the skate and not his career as a whole then maybe I'd let him come back

I agree.

I admire Plushenko as a very strong competitor, but have to say that after 1997-1998 season the men´s skating has become to me much more exciting again. I got bored watching Plushenko/Yagudin winning all competitions and after that Plushenko winning practically everything he participated in. Already the 2005 Worlds freeskate was exciting.

I actually missed Yagudin alot the last few years. I missed his skating which is much more enjoyable to watch than Plushenko`s routines full of bare choreography and meaningless arm motions. I also missed the competitive aspect of the event that was lost when he was forced out of the sport with injury.

I never really liked Yag's skating but I was not happy when he said Good-bye. You are so .... strange....

I was more frustrated with Plushenko than anything else. There he was, arguably the best jumper ever and an amazing presence and he just didn't do that much with it.

Partly it was his last real competition retiring, partly it was Mishin's apparent "I spit on your girly choreography!" attitude. But I couldn't tell one program from another (His Nijinksy was an awful like his Godfather which was an awful like every other single program he did). You can turn down the sound and play any other music (greatest harmoica hits, Hawaiian yodeling, Mongolian tango) and it fits just as well.

Can you imagine what some real choreographers could have done with him?

So, as insanely talented as he is, I'm just as glad to see him not compete if he's just going to do things like his Turin LP again.

Mishin`s skaters always have awful choregraphy. He is just a technical coach, albeit a great one. If Plushenko had a real choreographer he would have alot better choreographed programs that tap his true artistic talents. Mishin should recognize that and suggest him having one. Then again the judges give out mid-8s for choreography and transitions for his empty programs so perhaps there was no incentive from a competitive perspective to do this.

I believe that there will be the miracle and he will go to work with .... hoho Wilson!

I like figure skating and I am a real fan of figure skating - of course I miss him (like I miss Yagudin, Kwan, Slutskaya, Arakawa,.....). (BTW Plushenko didn´t need the help of the judges - he is/was definitely the best!)

Yeah, he was the best. But, blowing up the scores so high that even if he completly crashed & burned still no one would have caught him. that LP was totally front loaded & lacked any type of artistic style.

& Plus fans cryed over Alexei 6.0's at SLC. At least he did more that cross overs & jumps. There was an actualy theme & artistic flare to his LP.

I think his scores were absolutely justified. A lot of people like to overlook the mistakes and weaknesses of the other skaters.
I prefer a front loaded program much more than a program with falling and stumbling. The aim should be to present a program on high level without bis mistakes. Who did it for years??
It´s not Plushenko´s fault that he had no challengers on the same level. It´s a pity that Plushenko will probably finish competing because Lambiel would be a serious challenger for the next years. He is getting more constant and it would have been great to watch these skaters pushing eachother.

I think starting a program with six jumping passes _is_ a big mistake. I'd love to see a new rule that a skater can't do more than 3 jumping passes in a row without a footwork sequences or spins.

It's not his fault he had no challengers, I just wish he considered the more knowledgable fans a little more, you know the ones that pay attention to program composition (lord knows the judges aren't).

More like terribly scare that Plushy is going to keep kicking her faves butt Forever if he does not retire lol! Lambiel could not land a quad to save his life in comps before Papi Mishin teached him the proper technique to land them lol! For all his great coreo(very sloppy skating with bended knees lol!) is the quads that are really allowing him to win(especially this comp lol!) He talked about that after his LP. Alexei's frustrated fans complaining about Plush what a Shock lol!

Calgary without Plushenko was great!

I was in Calgary and was so happy I did not have to see any more arm flailing and hair tossing and glaring at the audience and judges. As I have said before here - his Olympic program was totally boring and predictable. He even looked bored himself.

And....if we think Plushenko will wow everybody when he joins the ice shows....in Calgary we saw who can really wow an audience: Sandu. His exibition program showed me that he has no peer in this setting. Sandu's performance was so superior to anything I have seen Plushenko do in an exibition.

Another reason to be happy Plushenko was not in Calgary? We, mercifully, did not have to see the "muscle man" routine in exhibition. I first saw that way back in Vancouver in 2001 and could not believe he was still doing it so many years later.

I dont know about any of you but I enjoyed the mens event more without Plushenko. I hope he retires and does not come back, I wont miss him at all.

I know you are a Plushenko hater so I am not surprised by a statement of this kind from you.

As much as I love Plushenko, I did not miss him once the competition began, because I wanted to enjoy the competition I went to see. It was someone else's time to shine- Lambiel and Joubert were both great. Had Plushenko been around, I wonder how others would have skated? He seems to psyche the other competitors the way Tiger Woods does in golf tournaments.

I would love to see Plushenko back in eligible competitions, but only if that's what makes him happy. With the new found confidence of Lambiel and Joubert, it will make an exciting competition if Plushenko returns next year. I will miss him if he does not return to eligible competitions, but that's life.

Of course Sandhu wowed the audience. He was skating in Canada, his home country, and for once he skated well enough to qualify for an exhibition! He is a terrific skater, but you cannot compare him with a proven champ like Plushenko.

Plushenko has come with some of the most creative exhibition performances that show his versatility and showmanship, while doing some of the challenging jumps even in exhibitions.

FYI- the'Muscle man' routine you referred to is called 'Sex bomb' and it is a parody of men trying to look macho. It is hilarious and the reason he still occasionally does it is that the audiences love it!

Don't you think, Plushenko was a nice , kind, loveable person some years ago?
In the last 2 years he is much more "phlegmatic", behaves like the owner of the rink together with Mishin.
It is hard to see him being happy.
After his winning, he is usually says: I could do it better, which means, I'm even better than my winning program. But of course, I was winning, because I'm the best.
When Joubert was winning, he said: Joubert needed to win this more than me, I already won much more than that......Nothing like " he did it better today than me"...

Just my feeling, but I stopped to go with him in many way.
Of course he is still a great skater, but I don't miss him anymore:((
I had to live with that kind of mentality by some Russian people, living in Hungary..

It's called 'talking trash' putting down one's competitors in obvious and not so obvious ways.

"I could do better" is meant to psyche-out future competitors. "He beat me by 30 points and he could _better_????" I hope no skater is naive or dumb enough to fall for it, but ya never know ...

I thought his comment on Joubert (when Joubert beat him) was condescending, (very) rude and a display of poor sportsmanship. Every competitor gets out-skated once in a while, the true champions will acknowledge this.

I've read that in private he's a nice guy, but his public competitor person isn't very laudable.

His comments about Joubert were not offensive, and he really spoke that Joubert was better then. In any case Plush has more bases for any words than somebody. And Joubert's comments about Plush were aggressive and silly, but you does not confuse. Why?
Yes, possible he is not so sociable person and will not make advances with press. But if he on ice it's not important to me what kind of person. The King.
Let's criticize his choreography, leave the person alone.

Interestingly I didn't miss any of the "not to participate" skaters, except Arakawa and Kwan.

I adored the Oly Champions, and fully agreed of their winning (maybe except Navka/kostomarov, but even this couple did a more decent program in Torino than usually), but all of those is a bit boring , no one of them can called as a "historical" skater.
Maybe the most "Historical" is Plushenko itself among them, because his amazing jumping techique.
