Dillon is currently 0.60 points behind 2nd position, Nico STEFFEN (CHE), and 5.53 points behind 1st position, Iker OYARZABAL (ESP).

Oh, and this is a new absolute Personal Best score for the Short Programme, surpassing his previous best from January's edition of the Volvo Open Cup by 3.30 points!!!

:cheer:   :party2: :points: :hb:

Although he is currently in last position, the scores are such that Dillon could still win this! That said, he would need Oyarzabal to make mistakes, and I wouldn't wish that on anybody. And especially not somebody who is part of the coaching team of one of my other kids!

But, Dillon definitely has a very good shot at claiming second position.

So, let's hope he has a good Free Skate and can capitalise on this opportunity to climb.

:cheer: WELL DONE DILLON!!! :cheer:

Dillon finished the Free Skate 9.26 points behind 2nd position, Nico STEFFEN (CHE), and 29.62 points behind 1st position, Iker OYARZABAL (ESP).

Overall, Dillon was 9.86 points behind 2nd position, Steffen, and 35.75 points behind 1st position, Oyarzabal.

The mistakes on the Axels (falling on the individual Axel, and singling the Axel in the sequence), and whatever happened to the Lutz were costly. And so was the other fall that didn't happen on an element. However, when you look at the total Base Values of the three programmes, the Free Skate was always going to finish in this order. The differences between the numbers were just too big to overcome.

But Dillon showed in the Short Programme that when the total Base Values of the programmes are close, he is capable of fighting with them.

Although this was one of the middle FS scores that he achieved this season, it and the absolute PB score that he got in the SP were good enough to get him his third highest ever overall score.

In his two most recent events, Dillon has achieved his highest ever SP score (at the Triglav Trophy), and his third highest ever FS score (at the Sonia Henie Trophy). Hopefully this run of form will continue into Nationals in June.

:cheer: WELL DONE DILLON!!! :cheer:

Denkova-Staviski Cup Senior Men's SP: Results; Protocols

Dillon finished 10th out of 12 in the SP, with a score of 52.66.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Denkova-Staviski Cup, as I was concentrating on the IceChallenge from Graz.

Dillon is currently 0.33 points behind 9th position, FANG Ze Zeng (MAS), and 1.25 points ahead of 11th position, Filip KAYMAKCHIEV (BUL). The three of them are the top three skaters in a group of 4 skaters covered by 3.99 points, stretching down to Petr KOTLAŘÍK (CZE) in 12th position, 3.66 points behind Dillon.

Being realistic, if he has a good Free Skate, the best Dillon can do is to climb up one position. But, he has to make sure he does have that good Free Skate, because there is the potential to drop to the bottom of the field if he doesn't.

So let's hope he has a good Free Skate, and moves up!

Dillon finished 3rd out of 3 in the SP, with a score of 40.79.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Lõunakeskus Trophy, as I was concentrating on the Bosphorus Cup in Istanbul and the Formula 1 in Qatar.

Dillon was very unfortunate to not just have too falls, but to have them on those particular jumps. The Triple Lutz that he fell on at the start was supposed to be the first part of a combination jump. It's a real pity he didn't attempt to attach the combination onto the second element, the Triple Salchow, because he also fell on his remaining jump, the Double Axel. Having two falls and no combination really hurt his scores.

Dillon finished the Free Skate 8.06 points behind 2nd position, Jan OLLIKAINEN (FIN), and 9.15 points behind 1st position, Jari KRESTYANNIKOV (FIN)

Being realistic, with such a big gap in front of him, Dillon is unlikely to move out of the Bronze Medal position. Which means there is no pressure on him. He can just go out there and concentrate on doing the best that he can.

Dillon finished 3rd out of 3 in the FS, with a score of 69.24. This meant that he remained in 3rd position overall, with a score of 110.03.

Here is what I wrote about the Warm-Up in the competition thread:

That was good timing. The Senior Free Dance at the Bosphorus Cup finished just as the Senior Men's FS was starting here. Well, OK, so I had to wind back a couple of minuets to watch the Warm-Up.

Dillon is wearing his team jacket.

He did a lovely jump, and then took off his jacket to reveal a costume where the top third is grey and the rest is black.

Did another lovely jump at the far end of the rink. Then circled around and did another, but I think it was popped.

Circled around again, and did another lovely jump in the same place.

He came past the camera a few times looking like he was setting up a jump out of shot.

In the later stages of the Warm-Up, he went over to talk to his coach and have a drink, before going out again.

:cheer: ALL THE BEST DILLON!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

And here is what I wrote about his programme:

Don't think he got fully around on the Triple Flip.

Double Lutz better.

Fall on Triple Lutz.

Flying Sit Spin good.

Double hands down on Triple Salchow.

Combination Spin good,

I think that was a choreographic slide.

Hard fall on the Triple Salchow.

You could see he was tired in the first part of the sequence of jumps. And then he fell in thesecond part.

Combination Spin not bad.

He looked disappointed coming off the ice.

I don't know what happened. All his jumps were lovely during the Warm-Up, but when it came to the programme, they weren't there!

When he got to the results area, you could seee he was very annoyed with himself.

I couldn't make out what he or his coach were saying, because she was too far from the microphone, and he was too out of breath.

If you include what we saw in the Warm-Up, he has definitely improved since I last saw him. So:

:cheer: WELL DONE DILLON!!! :cheer:

CaroLiza_fan

Dillon finished the Free Skate 13.91 points behind 2nd position, Jari KRESTYANNIKOV (FIN), and 30.94 points behind 1st position, Jan OLLIKAINEN (FIN).

Overall, Dillon finished 4.04 points behind 2nd position, Krestyannikov, and 39.00 points behind 1st position, Ollikainen.

Of course, he will be disappointed with being so far behind the other two skaters. But, as we saw in the Warm-Up, he can actually do the jumps. So, I wonder if it is mental. If it is the pressure of doing them in competitive conditions. Or, did he simply over-do himself in the Warm-Up, leaving him without enough steam to do them in the programme immediately afterwards?

Either way, it is something he needs to work on. Because, as we saw in the Warm-Up, he can do the jumps beautifully. So, with that in mind:

:cheer: WELL DONE DILLON!!! :cheer:

Dillon finished the Free Skate 5.22 points behind 3rd position, David GOUVEIA (PRT), and 2.29 points ahead of 4th position, LEUNG Kwun Hung (HKG).

Given the gap ahead of him, 4th position is probably the best that Dillon can do without mistakes from others. However, he still has to have a good Free Skate, because if the three skaters behind him have good Free Skates and he doesn't, then there is the possibility that they could overtake him.

So let's hope he has a good Free Skate, and maintains his position!

Overall, Dillon finished 10.95 points behind 4th position, Cheung, and 7.62 points ahead of 6th position, Leung.

Although he dropped a position in the FS and overall standings compared to the SP, Dillon should be very happy with where he finished. Cheung's FS programme had by miles the highest total Base Value of the entire field. Even though Cheung had 3 points in deductions (for 2 falls and a time violation), there was nothing Dillon or Leung could have done to stop Cheung jumping ahead of them.

Dillon's real battle was with Leung. And he won that comprehensively.

Merano Trophy Senior Men's SP: Results; Protocols

No video uploaded yet 😞

Dillon finished 15th out of 16 in the SP, with a score of 40.50.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Merano Trophy, as I was concentrating on the Haabersti Cup.

Looking at the Protocols, I'm not sure I would have wanted to see his skate. Not a single positive number in the table. The best he got was a 0 from Judge 1 for his Change Foot Combination Spin. (The other four Judges gave it -1).

Dillon's programme started with a fall on the Triple Lutz, which resulted in the biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -2.95; and -5 from all five Judges. This was followed by a Triple Flip-Double Toe combination, where the Flip was landed on the quarter. It got the second biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -1.24; as well as -4 from Judge 5; -3 from Judge 2; and -2 from the remaining three Judges.

Jumping forward to the second half of the programme, and the DOuble Axel got the third biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -1.32; and -4 from all the Judges.

Unfortunately, it was not just the jumps he was having issues with. There were no positive numbers for the spins either. Although, the numbers they were getting were not quite as costly as the numbers for the jumps.

Dillon finished the Free Skate 4.31 points behind 14th position, Giorgio BASILE (ITA), and 3.80 points ahead of 16th position, Théo BARADEL (FRA).

Given the gaps either side of him, all things being equal, Dillon is most likely to remain in 14th position. However, if he has a good Free Skate and Basile makes mistakes, Dillon could possibly climb up to 13th position. But equally, if he makes mistakes and Baradel has a good Free Skate, DIllon could possibly drop to last position.

So let's hope DIllon has a good Free Skate, and maintains or improves his position!

Dillon finished 14th out of 16 in the FS, with a score of 85.44. This meant that he climbed to 14th position overall, with a score of 125.94.

Unfortunately I was not able to watch the Merano Trophy, as I was concentrating on the Haabersti Cup.

Looking at the Protocols, it was similar to the SP in that there were no positive numbers. And, again, he fell on his opening jump. However, that was the only element that had big enough issues for us to be told what the problem was.

The most costly elements in the programme were the first three elements. As I said, he fell on the opening Triple FLip, which didn't have a clean edge. It got the biggest GOE hit of the programme, at -2.65; and -5 from all five Judges. He then did a Triple Lutz-Double Toe, which got the joint second biggest GOE hit, at -1.18; and -3 from Judge 2; -2 from three Judges; and -1 from Judge 5. THis was followed by a Triple Lutz on it's own, and funnily enough it got the same GOE, at -1.18. It got -2 from four Judges; and -1 from Judge 4.

The next two elements, the Flying Sit Spin and the Triple Salchow, were completely neutral. And although the remaining elements had no positive numbers (apart from three 0's given by the Judges, they were completely negative), they were not too costly.

Dillon finished the Free Skate 16.82 points behind 13th position, Arthur Wolfgang MAI (DEU), and 12.87 points ahead of 15th position, Giorgio BASILE (ITA).

Overall, Dillon finished 31.50 points behind 13th position, Euken ALBERDI (ESP), and 8.56 points ahead of 15th position, Basile.

After the SP, we knew that the best Dillon could do was to climb up one position. And by golly he did it! Yes, the fact that Basile had a nightmare skate with three falls (resulting in 4 points in deductions) played a large part in this. But, although Dillon did have issues, they were not as big as Basile's. And he was able to take advantage of that.

Unfortunately, with the size of the gap ahead of him, Dillon is going to remain in last position. So, this is an opportunity for him to just go out there without any worries about positions, and just do the best that he can, and attempt to improve his Personal Best scores for the FS and overall.

Dillon finished 12th out of 12 in the FS, with a score of 79.98. This meant that he remained in 12th position overall, with a score of 126.35.

Unfortunately, the Road To 2026 Trophy is not being streamed.

Looking at the Protocols, it wasn't that he had a disaster skate. Put it like this, there are no symbols appearing in the "Info" column at all. Instead, it appears that he had lots of little issues that built up. He actually had a good start to the programme. In the first five elements, only one of them had any negative numbers next to it. This was the third element, the second of consecutive Lutzes. He singled this one, which resulted in -0.26 in GOE, and Judges marks of five -5's; and two -2's.

But from the sixth element to the penultimate element, it was solid minuses. But, I don't want to dwell on that.

He ended the programme on a better note. The Change Foot Combination Spin got -0.12 in GOE; but it also got -2 from Judge 1; -1 from two Judges; 0 from three Judges; and +1 from Judge 3.

Dillon finished the Free Skate 41.18 points behind 11th position, Makar SUNTSEV (FIN), and 42.04 points behind 10th position, Kyrylo MARSAK (UKR).

Overall, Dillon finished 55.60 points behind 11th position, Suntsev, and 61.18 points behind 10th position, Liam KAPEIKIS (USA).

When you train in the north of Italy, it is hard to turn down competing in international events being held in the north of Italy. But, doing two events back-to-back was madness. Dillon's health issues mean that he has trouble getting through two programmes at the best of times. His team should have had more sense than to enter him in both the Merano Trophy and the Olympic Test Event. It should have been one or the other. And given that the Olympic Test Event was on his doorstep, it should have been the chosen event.

As it is, Dillon will have had his confidence really knocked by finishing so far behind the rest of the field in the Free Skate and, hence, overall.

I make no apology for ranting. I am really angry about this. Dillon should not have been put in the position where he had to do four programmes in the space of six days. It was highly irresponsible given his health issues.

If anything positive can come out of this, hopefully it will be that they have learnt their lesson, and will not try this again.

Skate To Milano Senior Men's SP: Results; Protocols

Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GAFo0m2e84M

Dillon finished 24th out of 26 in the SP, with a score of 50.20.

Unfortunately, due to the time difference, I wasn't able to watch the Men's SP LIVE. However, I have now started playing catch-up on the archived livestream, so here is the sort of comment I would have written about the Warm-Up if I had been watching LIVE:

Awwww. Dillon didn't know what to do walking to the rink. He waved a couple of times immediately after coming through the curtain, and then realised "Hey, this is a long walk. I may as well do something useful" and started doing some stretches.

Next time we saw Dillon, it was just his back heading away from camera when favourite Petr GUMENNIK (RUS) was being focussed on!

We also saw Dillon going across the shot when the camera was watching David GOUVEIA (PRT) having a drink at the boards. And in the background skating parallel to the boards when David was doing a jump a few moments later.

When the camera did finally focus on Dillon, he did a jump. I was trying to listen to what PJ Kwong was saying about him, but Mark was in full flow with the Olympic propaganda. Anyway, Dillon then circled around and did a really nice jump.

He then went towards his coach, nodded at him, and headed out into the rink without stopping at any stage. The curious thing is that when he was heading out into the ice, he kept looking up at the TV screens overhead. Must have seen himself and thought "hey, what are you looking at me for?"

A few moments later, when the camera was again focussed on Gumennik, we saw Dillon lining up a jump in the background. But then Petr blocked the view just as Dillon was doing the jump. But, I think it went well. Put it like this: he didn't end up on his backside.

The camera picked up DIllon again just before the one minute warning. We saw him skating parallel to the boards, and then lining up a jump, and executing it beautifully. But then he headed away looking very disappointed.

After that, we only saw Dillon a couple of times from afar. Once going to talk to his coach, and then when he was heading to the gate to leave the ice. And he seemed to be in a hurry to get off.

Now he has a long wait until he skates at the end of the group.

Here is the sort of comment I would have written when he was being introduced if I had been watching LIVE:

Here he is. My fellow Ulsterman.

And here is the sort of comment I would have written about his programme if I had been watching LIVE:

Interesting starting position.

Oh. When I saw him wearing a single white glove, I was expecting a Michael Jackson programme. But it's not.

Opening combination jump good until the hand down at the very end.

Triple Lutz good.

Had to make an adjustment in the middle of the Camel Spin.

Double Axel good.

So was Combination Spin.

Step Sequence good.

Was that a fall on the Sit Spin, or part of the choreography. It's hard to tell nowadays.

This is the best I have ever seen Dillon skate!

No harm to Margaret O'Neill, but moving to training in Italy has really made the difference for Dillon. He is head and shoulders above where he was at a couple of years ago.

Mark is taking credit for spotting Dillon and encouraging his parents to get him to pursue this. I didn't realise that. Or that he subsequently coached Dillon. I thought he had always been with Margaret.

I love those Team Ireland jackets! So much better looking than the old white ones.

Don't know who that is sitting with him, but they are having a right chin-wag.

They have a pause for the scores being announced, and Dillon pulls a bit of a face trying to decide whether he is happy with them or not, and they then immediatiately get back to the de-brief.

He goes into 3rd position.

The first comment came from Italian member @bartlebooth:

I am proud that, for years, I have managed to successfully resist the temptation to tell that sort of joke! And believe me, it hasn't been easy!

American member @Arigato wasn't keen on the choice of music:

The skater that was on directly before Dillon, #4 David GOUVEIA (PRT), had composed his own music, and there was a lot of bashing of it going on, which I didn't think was fair. I liked it. And I liked Dillon's music too. After @Arigato's comment, there were few posts combining complaints about both pieces of music, but I won't bother sharing them here.

But to the rescue came our bastion of positivity, @Jeanie19, who commented:

Finally, @auser commented:

That has always been a thing about Dillon - he has a lack of confidence in himself. And he shouldn't. He is doing things on the ice that many of us could only dream of being able to do.

Dillon finished the Free Skate 1.71 points behind 23rd position, Jarvis HO (HKG), and 6.26 points ahead of 25th position, Gabriel MARTÍNEZ (ECU). Dillon is the bottom skater of a group of 3 skaters covered by 2.57 points, which is headed by Paolo BORROMEO (PHL).

Dillon is in a very good position here. He is a fair distance ahead of the two skaters behind him, and has two skaters right in front of him. So, with no threat from behind, he can concentrate on trying to climb up the order. And if he puts in a good Free Skate, he has a good chance of doing so.

So, let's hope that he can climb.
